Default What Is THE card for wrestling?

Hockey has 1979 Gretzky OPC
Basketball has 1987 Jordan Fleer
Baseball has Jeter RCs, Griffey 1989 Upper Deck
Pokémon has Charizard 1st edition and base set

What are the top 1-5 cards to collect for wrestling?

1982 Wrestling All-Stars Hulk Hogan has to be number one on most people’s list. After that I’d personally say my 2-5 on the list would be:

2. 1982 Wrestling All-Stars Ric Flair
3. 1985 O-Pee-Chee Randy Savage/Ms. Elizabeth
4. 1989 Market Scene Ultimate Warrior
5. 1997 Cardinal Rocky Maivia (The Rock)

I chose these based on what I consider to be their wrestling “rookie cards.”

Solid list. I agree with 1-4, but i think the 5 spot could be something else.

You're right, I hesitated putting that at #5, but I felt some wrestler/card from the "Attitude Era" should probably be on there in some capacity.

I would say that the 1988 Wonderama WCW Sting rookie should be on that list

A case can be made for that one too, although I'd probably go with the '87 Test Run version over the '88 general release.

I like the hogan all stars at 1. I think hogan 85 topps could arguably be top 5. Flair all stars should be on there.

Also like 1973 wrestling annual andre and 1954 parkhurst gorgeous George.

Wrestling All stars, Set A.... I got a complete set given to me in a box of random cards about 10 years ago... I put them to the side bc i thought they were cool. Was blown away the value of the set!! Box of randoms also included a nice Mike Schmidt RC and some others.... guy worked with my mom and knew i collected, wouldnt take a penny, wanted to pass it on as was his dads!

That's definitely a valid point. It's kinda a shame that a lot of the Attitude era card releases are so underwhelming. With that said, I think the Hogan 85 Topps would be in spot #5 for me.

The 1994 Action Packed Undertaker auto is also probably up there, considering its one of the earliest wrestling autograph releases. Similarly, you could also consider something from the 1998 WCW/NWO Topps autograph set, maybe Goldberg?

I'm not sure, but 1-4 is spot on IMO.

If we are talking autos i prefer the rock comic images auto to his 97 cardinal card.

82 Wrestling All Stars Hogan rookie

and if you want a pretty rare much more affordable option, the 1985 O Pee Chee Hogan #1 is poised to go crazy.

I think if the Cardinal was a proper card (full back art, etc) it would be more desirable. Comic images auto is a good one! I'm still trying to find a clean Owen Hart to add to my collection!

I agree with you here -- I like both 85 Hogan cards, but the O Pee Chee is going to go insane here soon.

Bonus points if you have the 1986 Scanlens Hogan -- I am so mad I never picked that one up when it actually surfaced every now and then.

Guys, why the 1985 O Pee Chee over the Topps? Just scarcity?

My perception is that the OPC Hogan is tougher to find in high grade, whether due to scarcity or just inherent defects in OPC (or both)

It is likely the same issue as OPC hockey cards. OPC cards would be cut with wire instead of razor cut giving rougher edges to the cards.

Here are my top five

1. 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A #2 Hulk Hogan
2. 1981 Kajiwara Popy Hulk Hogan
3. 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A #1 Andre The Giant
4. 1982 Wrestling All Stars Series A #27 Ric Flair
5. 1985 Topps WWF #1 Hulk Hogan

The OPC is dramatically more scarce in general. A sealed box of Series 1 just sold for $1,900 so I would agree that card will eventually become much more valuable. I chose the Topps for the list because it’s so much more available and caries a lot of nostalgia for many.

It’s a hard list to create.

I think the list is very difficult 2-5. As far as the type of card that is the “face” of wrestling cards it’s gotta be 82 all stars hogan.

Scanlens is even tougher in both scarcity and condition.

The Wrestling All Stars is probably the "face" of modern wrestling cards, most specifically the Andre/Hogan/Flair cards. Mostly due to hype (sales prices) of the top condition graded cards due to condition sensitivity. Not the rarest (or toughest to complete) set by any means.

I'd consider the Topps WCW Autos the "go to" set in terms of supply and demand factors. Or the Parkhurst sets if vintage is considered.

Default What Is THE card for wrestling?

I’m new to wrestling cards and have been trying to pick up the earliest of my favorite guys. Any thoughts on the 1993 Corozan De Leon? Aka the Chris Jericho rookie? One I really want to get but just seems insanely rare/expensive.

If you want that Jericho you will need to pay up for it if it surfaces.......

I had a chance to buy one recently from someone I know on Twitter and he wanted a grand for it and I passed and he got it sold shortly thereafter. It was raw but looked mint so a really nice copy. Very rare card.
