Default Anyone still collect relic cards?

I know they use to be very popular years ago but not sure if anyone still collects game used relic cards anymore? Do you? I ask because it seems like all I get when I break boxes are relic cards! I personally love Dodger and HOF relics. Thanks

i remember when i first got into the hobby, jumbo patches were very popular.. i thought they were pretty cool until people realized most of them are not even real game worn by that player.. but i still think theyre really cool

Totally agree! I used to collect them like crazy but now that most are not “game used” anymore, they have lost some of the luster with me. I still think they are cool and will buy one here and there with my COMC sales funds. But they are not a priority as they use to be , more of a secondary purchase.

Used to yes, when game used with MLB hologram serial # sticker on swatch. Now, heck no, because sheysters started doing patch swaps and I don't want to deal with the shenanegains since I buy singles for PC.

I still do for my PC and some Yankees, but I don't spend a lot of money on them.

I occasionally collect relics if I like the design.

Got a few 1985 Throwback relics from Flagship this year of my favorite Giants...Posey & Will Clark.

I'll try to pick up the older ones every once in a while, but current ones not really unless they realllly catch my eye (like the Tribute Dual Patch I have of Griffey/Edgar and Triple Soto Patch)

I collect the relics from the early Upper Deck and Playoff days (2000-2009). I can believe the authenticity of those, but any modern day stuff is trash.

I do not. I’d be more than happy to see relics go away.

Meh, hear that a lot but doubt there's any validity to it. I've always thought the language on the cards changed as a corrective action by legal teams....not necessarily because the quality of materials degraded (aside from old timers that have limited gamers to begin with).

I think all the companies were simply more lax competing with one another in the mid to late 2000s. The sources of materials were questionable at times and the sheer volume of production must've put a lot of junk into cards. But they could just post a picture on the back to make people feel warm and fuzzy about it.

I trust Game Used cards of current players moreso than any other time. Topps has a direct pipeline of materials from MLB with their exclusive. Sure there's plenty of player-worn, event-worn, etc stuff but it's all clearly identified as such.

But all that said, I like Game Used cards from the late-90's to 2010 best of all and is a point of focus for my Indians collection. There's just so many great designs to choose from compared to just Topps.

I do for my Kershaw PC when it offers a unique color like for the All Star Stitches or the Player's Weekend jerseys but that's about it.

I can get on board with that. Tons of that early stuff is swapped with fake patches too and what not, but relics are a limited part of my PC anyway so with what I have im pretty content with.

Sure. I had the Duke Snider [and pretty much the rest of my collection] stolen from me last year, so I got a replacement for it.

I’m looking for a solid white and the blue relic cards from Anthony Bourdain out of the 2014 Allen and Ginter if anyone has them lol

But overall, I’m not huge on them except a couple specifics players I guess

I collect relic cards for my Smits collection, that is about it. However, I won't ever buy a card with a sticker auto on it. That is where I draw the line.

I don’t go crazy on them. But most of my collection is white Sox guys, and there are plenty of $5ish cards to get. Not many guys are scamming at that price point.

I like the ones from when I was a young collector, 1998-2001. I still remember hitting my first bat card out of a box of 1999 MVP. Bonds. Wish I had never traded it. Still love that set.

I hate single-color jersey swatches, but I love a nice patch

Sure.

I have no issues with relic cards and treat them like I do any other card... if I like the way they look and they are of an Astro or Cowboy then I will collect it. I don't care, at all, if the relic in the card was actually worn or even touched by the player on the card.

I actually believe that NONE of the relics that are included in these cards were ever worn by the player depicted unless it SPECIFICALLY says so on the card itself. According to the wording on most of these cards, as long as the item was worn by a ANY major league player at a major league sponsored event they are covered.

I love the pics used on some relic cards that you can’t find on regular cards.
