Default Can someone explain to me why Donruss Net Marvel inserts so expensive?

These would've been commons or comc type cards but looking at completed auctions they are going for so much?

People like the way the cards look so their is a lot of demand. They were a hobby box exclusive insert with a 20 card checklist so they are relatively SP.

Nice design and you can only pull them if you drop a ton of money on a hobby box of Donruss. That being said if they do them again this year the value may drop a bit imo.

This is one of my favorite of the Trae Young cards I have. Bought it raw for 50 like a day before they went crazy.

It’s what happens when Panini puts out nice looking, original designs, instead of just 1,000 parallels of varying colours.

People like to spend stupid money on junk, that's the current hobby trend.

As Gary V says, cards will be the art of the future.

Eh. Not that original. The original Donruss was doing these type of sets 20 years ago.

I like to hoard things and this set caught my eye and so did the price at the time (1-20$). I bought the whole set in press proof format, non press proof, and then tried to get 100 Lebrons... I made it to 94... and then the price just went insane.

I just checked the price of a box is 1800$... or 180 per pack.. wow
Net Marvels (or any of the inserts for that matter) fall about 3 per box so 30 per case.
They caught fire and have massive market interest and I don't see them going down anytime soon.

In 2020 nothing is common or normal... 0_o

IDC what anyone thinks. I love these and think this design kicked ass.
This is junk? Keep shoveling it into my piehole.

Great post and well played.

I think we can cancel the comment that they're "relatively SP'd" then.

There is a thread somewhere on here. If I am remembering correctly, this was one of Sports Card Investor's weekly picks and that is when they caught fire.

I think there are just elitists on here that only appreciate cards if they're "high end" or pre Panini. And then some on here just have a negative attitude about everything.

Cool looking cards, I like them. Like someone mentioned, and this applies to my tastes as well, a solid standalone insert (not paralleled to death) can go a long ways even if it's not the most SP thing in the world.

All aboard, let's all join the hype train...choo choo. Fine looking cards, but yeah OP pretty crazy how much they sell for. But then again nothing is really making sense with the "hobby" now.

A cool, innovative insert that caught the public's eye and generated natural demand.

I think this is a great example of natural supply/demand taking over and shows the general health of the hobby.

The expensive ones are Press Proof Gold.
They says Press Proof on the lower left corner box.
Those are SP.
The ones with the blank box are not SP.

I liked these cards when they were cheaper lol. Bought one, tried to buy more but the prices went insane. They do look nice, as far as original design I'm not too sure. Its a design that Marvel comics has been using for years.

There is big core of the hobby that love the inserts of the nineties. This set as well as the inserts of Mosaic that actually have fun themes that have a little imagination will always sell well. The inserts of Prizm are dog turds. They have incredibly boring themes like "Emergent" "Dominance" and "Finalists". Kaboom and Downtown also capture the imagination. How many cards can you have that show the player dribbling over and over.

Agree, 100%. Whether the prices make sense I can't say, all I know is these are the type of non-paralleled inserts with some appealing design aspects that I most enjoy.

This is exactly why they are appealing, and also why I bought the Luka Marvel. Fun different card with a bit of a comic theme.

Things that Net Marvels have in common with non-numbered Prizm cards:

1. They look appealing (to many, if not to all)
2. They are not particularly scarce
3. They have been the subject of extraordinary price manipulation, pump and dump, etc...

Prices remain high as those that are now holding are not eager to lose money.

I don't even collect modern cards, but you did very well to get a lot of these.

The design is NOT meant to be original, it is clearly meant to evoke nostalgia in all of us who liked/read comics, and that is why it works.

The Noir Sneaker Spotlight cards, while clearly at a different price point, is another example of a great idea by Panini that has appeal outside the mainstream basketball card market. Those also command a premium over other Noir cards that have similar pack odds.

$1-20 for these sounds about right. I bought like 2.
