Davis turned one great season into huge $$$

Do not feel sorry for him

Feel sorry for Orioles fans who had to endure 200 K's, .150 AVG, and .100 RISP per season for years

Say what you want about the contract, but Davis didn't suck.

Over a 5-year run, averaged about 40 HR, 100 RBI, 130+ OPS, and helped get the O's to an ALCS.

Shame he couldn't keep it up due to whatever reasons (shift, injury, ADHD).

His retirement will be better than yours or mine will ever be.

He’s Kevin Love (who also was once good and put up huge counting stats)

“Over the course of that contract, Davis hit .196 with 92 home runs and 762 strikeouts in 1,851 at-bats, and the Orioles slid from a wild-card berth in 2016 to complete irrelevance as the doormat of the American League East”

Isn't this standard for 95% of MLB players? They all suck and end up on a yacht.

in a macabre way, I checked the box score for his name every day over the last few years. He will me missed, but nowhere near as much as he missed baseballs.

According to what I've read, he's going to get paid out the rest of his contract. It'll be done over time, similar to Bobby Bonilla.

That's how you retire.

say what you will about his performance over the last several years, any criticism is warranted but don't forget all of the positive things he did for that community - he should be applauded for those efforts.

If injury won't let him play again he will get paid out by insurance. Same thing happened with Prince Fielder when he had to retire due to injury insurance continued to pay out rest of his contract.

Which you can say about a crap ton of players

Doesn’t make them not a colossal flop and/or waste of money

And that season earned him a $160 million contract. And if the O's hadn't have given it to him, some other team would have.
