Default Topps Mini is Apparently Dead. Thoughts?

These were the MOST FUN EVER to open in 2018 and 2019. I currently have over 20 Tatis and Guerrero Mini RCs and spent over 10k on these packs that year.

The 2018 Acuna and Soto Mini RCs are still hot, but not much else. Even the Ohtani RCs get no love!

2020 was definitely not as much fun as they increased production and had fewer parallels in each box (I think), so I only bought 50 boxes. However, I did pull the Gavin Lux 1/1 RC, but it's still sitting on ebay.

I know some of you out there were fans, but many weren't. Your thoughts on the death of Topps Mini?

minis have never gotten love for any set

edit:
the frequency at which low numbered parallels has also kept single parallels down comparatively to other cards numbered to the same
its also cause they are online exclusive.. online sets have always sold for less than regular packed product

These cards will never get the love they deserve in the market, idk why. Even 3D doesn’t get the attention. But I’ll be sitting on this one for the foreseeable future.

I never really understood the point. We really didn’t need another product that used the same image and design of flagship. I’d love to see opening day die too

I did hate that Topps didn’t do Topps Total this year, I thought that was a nice set. Few parallels and could get guys who don’t have cards in the main flagship set.

Mini sized cards have never been super popular to start with, and the increased production last year killed the product.

I collected the throwbacks in 2018/19 (i.e. the 83 and 84 designs), but have since lost interest....

I probably wouldn't have noticed without you posting it. I've always seen minis as what you buy when the real rookies get too pricy or hard to find. I think they get hurt a bit by not really being that mini. They are barely smaller versions of the base cards. Outside of the low print run, just never saw the attraction.

Mini should be like almost all other Topps flagship parallel products: inserts in Topps flagship and not their own product.

This is the truth. Plus, minis are just harder to store. If you sleeve you need different sizes pages. They are more likely to slosh around in boxes. Theoretically those drawbacks could be overcome by a good enough product, but another base set reprint doesn't cut it.

I always thought the regular cards were pretty much mini.

I’ve always been a fan of the minis and 5x7s as low PR versions of iconic images, but I know I’m in the minority. I’ve got several 698 and US250 Acunas and US300 Soto minis and a couple 5x7 US250 image variation Acunas that I think are pretty cool.

Me too. They tend to be the kind of stuff that player collectors pay through the nose for later in the player's career too because they're limited and very few people held on to them.

Minis will be an exception, especially during the years when it was hobby only. Plus since they’re unusual and tough to store, people are more likely to remember they have them.

I only own one Topps Mini card…not a fan of Topps Mini, but this was bought raw in a lot and self-subbed, so it’ll be the only one I hold.

The ability to pull extremely low-numbered parallels is what made it fun for me! It was a blast getting a 1/1 parallel in every 10 packs or so. I still own the Judge 1/1 and Bellinger 1/1 from 2017.

In 2018, it seemed that every pack I opened had either a Soto, Acuna, or Ohtani!

I thought the variations they added in 2020 were a real positive, but I wish they would've done that in 2017-2019.

2012 was a fun rip, as well!

I will miss them (a "little") . . .

I have a case of 2013 that I will hold in tribute.

Topps has made minis since 2006, Allen & Ginter.

Yep. That's exactly what happened with 1992 Donruss Super Diamond Kings and countless other oddball sized cards over the years.

Why, god, WHY!?

This was my favorite release of the year. Did Topps announce this somewhere?

A PSA 9 Soto sold for $91 on Halloween.

Excuse me, I'm just going to go scream into a pillow for 10 minutes.
