Didn’t see any mention yet… Derek Jeter backed grading/vault/marketplace startup. Would seem another complete waste if not for Jeter’s involvement. Even still, seems a steep hill to climb.

These people are seriously overestimating how big the sports card hobby is. This is pure insanity.

I'm going to create a vault that holds other vaults. I'm going to be rich.

I will put a sticker on your vault to make sure the vault is vaulting stuff.

I need to start a vault concierge service. Will only handle your slabs with cotton gloves and they're only moved via private golf cart from vault to shipping, each encased in its own private pelican case, handcuffed to a certified vault concierge sports card expert who is escorted by a fully trained hand to hand and weapons combat expert to ensure no one will interrupt the move from vault to packaging or receiving to vault.

It's like the streaming service wars all over again. 9 out of 10 of them will be worthless.

What’s the starting pay to be the concierge?

The Arena PR machine is in full effect. Lots of youtubers with Jeter interviews getting queued up.

Setting aside entirely the actual, practical real-world-in-2022 viability of a new grading company, new marketplace, and new vault -

Can we at least all agree that these grading reports they provide are long overdue and that in a just world (assuming that the eventual consensus once the sample size increases is that their grades are in fact accurate), they'd either put the existing graders out of business or force them to start providing something similar?

High-res scans, detailed explanations for the sub-grades (including % measurements for L/R and T/B centering), and even highlighting the location of the flaws on the scans (e.g. where the scratches are for surface grade, or which specific corner(s) they found problematic).

Random example: https://arenaclub.com/cards/8AC001869225#grading-report

The truth is that 90% of people don't care about why their card grades the way it does. They just want 10's. CSG went from a 9.5 scale with subgrades, giving the consumer more information why the card graded the way it did. They then changed their scale to give more 10's and people became happier.

Not only that, but they're getting in while it's on the way down. 2020 came and went.

All this heavy investment is pure insanity to me. The majority of stuff selling on these auction houses / vault services are selling for less than the price of grading. People are losing their cards as these vault / auction / grading companies take more money out of the hobby every week. Not only is there too much physical product out there, but the sports card NFT market is bleeding out the collectors as well. I still collect as a hobby, but there is no way I would invest in anything related to sports right now.

Intelligent users that are stupid and never actually owned a business trying to sound like they know how to run a successful business.

Arena probably will succeed since the wannabee posting here thinks it will fail.

Have to read what he posts and think the opposite will happen. LOL

I’ll let you pay more for that kind of service. Completely unnecessary for my collection.

Their AI is almost as good as HGA. They can't even get centering right. I am not cherry picking here as well. I found multiple issues with the small number of cards they grade. I did not put the green lines in. That is what they did.

There are many here that are serious, intelligent but stupid. There are a lot of smart people that tell everyone how to run a business but never owned a business.

The real business world is brutal. Not like what they teach in school.

Here to learn , learned a lot on these forums. There are some members that you know to follow, cause what ever they say is most likely wrong. There are people in the Off topic stock forum that sound smart, but i just read and do the total opposite of what they say. Most times you will make money . It is hilarious.

I think I could guess centering better without my glasses and the cards held 100 feet away from me.

Has nothing to do with adding value to cards/collection. It's about transparency and the company justifying the grades it assigns.

As to the examples folks are posting of bad centering grades - exactly why I said we need a bigger sample size to make sure the grades are actually accurate. This isn't a great start, hopefully they improve.

Surprised Jeter is involved in this. He doesn't seem like someone who literally flushes money down the toilet. He should just finance a liquor. That's how famous people are supposed to fleece people.

Smart rich people never front their own money in projects like this. They form a corporation, get loans, and don't have any financial risk. Jeter is a "co-founder," but could just be a paid spokesperson for the company with financial incentives in stocks.
