Why would they use CSG before any of the others? Odd

Most likely an investor of the company graded this or crossed it over from another label for publicity. Doubt this was anyone not connected to CCG in some way.

No idea but it is what it is. I'm a non-selling grader at moment so I am very fine with CSG for the time, look and cost.

I like that he explained the differences between type 1 and type 2 1952 Mantles.

Agreed...and I think it's cool CSG will differentiate the two on its slab.

I am one of the few people here that grades vintage with CSG. My experience has been ok, but they are definitely a bit relaxed with the upper grades with pre-1980 cards. I think this card was graded accurately with SGC/PSA current standards because people would give them a hard time if it wasn't. I have gotten a few 8's, even a 8.5, from the 1960's with CSG. I don't have an issue with any of these cards, they all deserve it. Where they have issues in my opinion is with the 5.5 to 7.5 grades. They allow murder with corners on those cards if the card is well-centered with a great surface. Grades 1 through 5 are very fair as well, even tougher than PSA/SGC with surface issues. Below are two of my cards that I believe were over graded. The awesome thing about CSG though, is that the transparency is there with the images. Zoom in to your hearts content to judge for the card yourself.

I'm guessing the card has something wrong with it. Altered, pressed, trimmed, etc.

This. Or as someone said, the person who submitted this has sone financial interest in CSG.

I've never used CSG but i am not going to give my stamp of approval until i know without a shadow of a doubt these guys are legit and know their stuff. Reps take years to establish IMO.

Financially, it makes no sense to submit this to CSG. As someone also mentioned, probably a PSA/SGC reject.

I think we can all agree, there's not much better than a good #2!

If you are keeping the card, who cares where you submit it.

If you are selling the card, you’re sending it to the company who you think will help you generate the best return.

I guess that eliminates the "PSA refused to grade it" theory.

Great find! That card was probably bought for the sole purpose of CSG marketing. Now who was responsible for buying the card? Rubin and fanatics, Jaz Z's Roc Nation, or someone else involved in the purchase of CCG.

I never knew about "Type 1" and "Type 2" - I assume PSA doesn't care about that? Is there any preference for buyers to which is preferred or it doesn't really matter?

Well produced video I thought, they did a good job explaining and presenting.

PSA doesn't list many things on their label. This is one of them.

I think most would prefer the one with the solid box around the Yankees logo and the sharper edges around the star box.

Great looking card but NM-MT is a stretch, imo, for this card. PSA had it right at NM+. The lower left corner is rounded and there is slight rounding to the lower right corner.

As am I. CSG is a quality grading company and I have used them all. Vintage will always look better in a SGC slab, but if you want a slab that is updated and crystal clear, CSG is #1 of the big 4 and it is not even close.

yeah when I buy a card from CSG the grade always matches the card. If I see CSG slabs on ebay I just look at the grade and don't even use the zoom feature.

With PSA you have to carefully look at every piece of the card because a PSA 10 can arrive looking like a PSA 8 pretty easily. I buy CSG graded cards without even seeing the back photo. I would never consider buying a PSA card without the back photo.

I also think CSG has the best slabs on the market.
