Prizm Gold /10 vs Prizm Black Gold /5

I realize 2012 Prizm Gold /10 will always be king and that the black gold /5 did not come along until years later (2018 maybe?), but what do you guys think about the black gold /5? How do you like it compared to the gold /10? Obviously rarer but is it as visually pleasing? Just curious on peoples thoughts since I don’t really hear as much discussion about the black golds but was thinking about dipping my toes in the water.

It has the lineage. It's better looking.

Besides, chasing PSA 10 Golds of your favorite PC player is tough enough.

I’ve paid more for and own fewer Black/Gold Brogdons. Really hard to come by.

Ultimately, it looks good enough (not lime green) and is rare enough that the 50 percent less availability will have an impact. Invest in that fire sale sh-t all day.

This is good too. I was giving my personal preference.

Prizm Basketball gets a little murky with 2 great 1/1s and then Gold/Black Gold.

Prizm Football does it right. Gold Vinyls out of 5 and only 1 1/1 card for each player.

Yeah, this was directed more at the last sentence in the original post. I agree that the football setup is better.

I like Black Gold better, cheaper too. Hits different especially on Lakers unis.

Gold /10 will always be the better card IMO. Black/golds are nice some years, but it's more a product of the current parallel overload of recent years IMHO.

If you're talking about what will hold the most value it will be the gold /10 just because people are creatures of habit and the gold has been beat into their heads as the best no matter what but black gold is way more visually appealing.

I especially like in football how there is only gold in optic /10. Not prizm with gold shimmer. Select where some players have 4 versions with gold, gold disco, gold diecut. Potentially 120 base golds in select of some. Optic has 10 golds, period. Mosaic is awful with different golds too.

Pure gold just matters more from a wide collectors standpoint. It’s kind of like saying the neon green one is /5 too but is a fraction of the gold.

I collect both golds /10 and black-golds /5 for my player collection. I can just say that true golds /10 tend to sell higher in price over other golds /10 and black-golds /5. Even if black-golds are more scarce , true golds /10 are more appealing to collectors. In my p.o.v., if i can get the black-gold /5 at a reasonable price i will definitely add it to my collection just because of it’s rarity.

I dont like the two color prizms.... or three color for that matter.

I can live with the RWB version but we don't need a parallel for every color combo. If they just did a team color parallel and cut out all the yellow/green black/gold crap it would be for the best.

black finite and gold /10 will always be the best cards to own IMO.

Like most posters above, I prefer the true golds out of /10. I never saw the need for yet another parallel, which is basically a card that is confused if it is black or gold and doesn’t look as good as either one. Also I think /10 is kind of the sweet spot for ultra-rare hunting and set-collecting that is not so rare where it is basically impossible from the beginning. I think we learned this from watching the 90s PMG greens over the years. If they were out of just /5 I think there would never have been the same level of interest because next to no one would have tried for the set.

When did they start making black golds for Prizm, it must be pretty recently right? I haven't bought much since 2018. I don't remember seeing them that year or prior. I think the Optic Choice Black Gold's look pretty awesome from 2018 though.

Yep spot on it was 2018. In 2017 there was only a neon /5 from the disco prizm retail thing lol
