Default Is this a fake Jordan gold refractor?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/385418037265

As there was this previous thread about fake Kobes, I wonder if they've progressed to MJs.

The main reason I'm suspicious is that the seller has listed this (and his unnumbered 1997 one) as a LOT so that it doesn't go through eBay authentication...

I'm assuming there's no way to tell without being able to see it refract?

Looking at the seller's sold auctions, there are numerous high end vintage cards sold in the same manner.

The seller has been on eBay since 2001, has a sold 167,000 items and has a 100% positive feedback. A little bit of googling also points out that the seller has a physical location in Florida. So it looks as though it is more like a long established seller who has decided to usurp the eBay authentication process, rather than one deliberately trying to pass off fake cards. The lack of reflection in the auction image is due to the fact the seller is using a scanner rather than taking photo's.

I personally would pass, as I do not agree with the seller intentionally usurping the authentication process, more than thinking the card is a fake.

The Jordan looks to be legit but based on the seller's completed auctions and their selling style to get around the authentication program, I'd stay far away.

What good reason would a seller have to try and get around the authentication program for these types of cards?

I'm honestly surprised at the prices some of the cards they've sold. What buyers are out there thinking that an experienced seller is going to sell a legit "NM-MT+" 1969/70 Lew Alcindor raw? It's a 25k card in PSA 8. Why are so many so gullible????

Probably sheet cut. Something about that seller seemed familiar and after a bit of looking, they’ve been selling a lot of sheet cut Topps refractors over the past several months.

Listing removed. Who was the original seller? If it's who I think it is, they blocked me for pointing out their shill accounts on several of their uncut panels. Oddly, the same accounts didn't bid on following auctions of the same cards which ended substantially lower.

There was recently another "reputable" long-term seller that was outed for performing similar shenanigans to get around the Authenticity Guarantee.

Listing is still active. Just search the item # on ebay - 385418037265

For some reason, eBay links don't work on here.

Same seller. Schilling, authentication evasion, selling sheet cut cards, and who knows what’s been done to all the high-end raw vintage. Would not touch.

There’s also a complaint regarding condition issues over on the CU forums: https://forums.collectors.com/discus...sports-on-ebay

And a BO thread from 2020 concerning shilling: https://www.blowoutforums.com/showthread.php?p=15476035

That pcbcomicsandsports account also appears to be linked to several, popular Net54 threads about altered cards and shill bidding.

Is this the same seller? Store was recently burglarized, along with a couple other shops in same area of Florida.

3 Burglaries, 3 Hobby Shops, One Night

This guy is still shilling up a storm.

Has been for years. Guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
