Arrow 2023 Fiba Basketball World Cup

Who's looking forward to strapping into some ball? Its been awhile for me, I'm really looking forward to it.

So good that basketball CRAZY Philippines (Japan & Indonesia) gets to host!

USA looked slick in warmups. Looks like a very nice mix of players who love to play ball. Antman emerging as the leader of this team but a bunch of fringe All-Stars and upper echelon role players looking to contribute...

Who is going to surprise? We got the usual suspects who we expect strong showings - Spain, Serbia, Greece, Lithuania, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Italy & France. But Canada is stacked with NBA talent and the Philippines look to have drawn a weaker pool.

My compatriots New Zealand look pretty young and raw. Not expecting a dream run like 2002 but they will scrap. That game against USA is our big one...

Commentator for this highlight package, comical. Hope he gets more assignments

Pumped, really going to be a great world cup. So many good teams, tons of NBA talent.

I think team USA is gonna finally be fun again. The last couple olympics and FIBA teams have just not cared and it wasn't really a great watch. This years it's a bunch of young kids, all hungry to win it's gonna be scrappy.

Spain is always really good.

Australia is stacked with talent and has a really interesting roster makeup

I think Germany is going to be really competitive

and of course it will be fun to see Luka but I don't think they're gonna get that far.

4 players with 1 AS selection each. No players with an All NBA selection, even 3rd team. If USA Basketball doesn't care about this tournament, why should I?

You care enough to post about it here

Too bad Jamal Murray dropped out last minute for Canada. But I guess a long NBA season and some nagging injuries forced the Nuggets to send the word down - no FIBA for you Jamal! But I do like our chances as all our other top NBA guys are there. We'll see how good they are with France tomorrow.

The league is marketing their young talent for this. It's a great business move for them and it's great for the players too. We don't need LeBron and Steph and KD out there for this.

People would rather watch young kids out there playing their hearts out than a bunch of "all-stars" who don't give a crap and don't want to be there

Harden was holding out for a trade to Lithuania.

Cool rationale but it's lazy as hell:

Top US NBA players:

Kawhi: Glass, literally can't play
AD: Too fragile, can't play
Curry: Already won twice and wanted to focus on training in offseason
Durant: older now and has played a ton for Team USA
Lebron: same as Durant but much older, not going to put extra miles on at this point.
Tatum: Don't know
Booker: Don't know

So it's like 2-3 players who "didn't care enough" lmao.

I really feel like if Australia makes a good run, it could do a lot for basketball in this country. Basketball is growing over here, but our next generation of young stars haven't broken through as household names yet to the level of say, a Patty Mills. I've seen Josh Giddey on the back of a Weet-Bix box, but it was kind of an "if you know you know" sort of thing. Exciting young guys like him and Josh Green haven't really had a chance to show out on a national stage in the green and gold yet.

Jordan Clarkson looking better than Karl-Anthony Towns so far in the Gilas’ opener.

Big soft spot for the Philippines for me, as I managed a data team there a few years ago and spent about a month there, myself.

And yes, it is hard to overstate how wild Filipinos are for basketball. Here’s Steph Curry trying to sell me cellphone service in Manila.

SGA having a hell of a game!

Great team D by the Canuck’s! Great effort! Can’t believe how well we have outplayed France today. Couldn’t have expected such a great result this morning

It's something where you watch the NBA nightly, then watch the Philippines team. Tough, scrappy team with a lot of heart. But, poor coaching and riding one player is their doom.

NBA talent is supreme...even G-League games are different for sure!

This is me.

No one on the team gets me excited. It's NBA players so they "should" win.

Hope they do.

Should be a better test for Team USA tonight with their biggest group play match-up vs Greece...

Whoops, I completely forgot about Luka and Slovenia! Any team that has Doncic is going to be dangerous and it looks like they will coast to the 2nd round.

Canada has been impressive, dishing out 2 from 2 absolute poundings. I was really surprised how they laid waste to France!

Disastrous opening night loss for Gilas under that crazy world record crowd and followed it up with another clunker. I have a soft spot for them too because I play with a bunch of Filipinos so was hoping they could progress, would've been nice for the tournament too.

True. They are battlers, much like NZ. You hit the nail on the head. Not enough diversity on offense, not enough size or talent and questionable coaching.

European talent is a step above those Asian teams though...

Team USA is looking really good so far. A little slow starting games but really turned it on today.

Canada is looking incredible and Germany is as well

Watched every second of every USA game so far. Including warm up games.

Things are going pretty well thus far, the team is gelling nicely.

I still think the rotation is a bit of a question mark, not surprisingly. I’m not sure we know which 5 close tight games. They’ve blown everyone away pretty much, at least by the end of the contest…so we haven’t had a great view yet of who is going to be out there when things become inevitably closer further into the tourney.
