Default Alex Rodriguez Topps RC year?

Hey guys,
What year is considered the Topps RC for Alex Rodriguez? I did a google search and it says 1998. Which doesn’t seem right. I did an eBay search and the earliest topps card I can find of his is 1993 topps. But that is a draft picks card and does have the Topps rc logo on it. So I ask you guys, the experts. What is his topps rookie card year? Thanks

There is no such thing as a "Topps Rookie". A player has rookie cards in a specific year. If Topps makes a card of that player that year, they have a topps rookie. If they don't, then they simply don't have a rookie card made by topps. Arod's rookie cards are in 1994 products. He doesn't have a Topps card in 1994, so he doesn't have a topps rookie. The first major league release by Topps he appears in is 1998. Those could be called his first Topps cards. But they are not topps rookies.

Arod refused to sign with Topps until 1998

The reason Rodriguez is playing baseball at the Festival is because he was sent home from the touring U.S. national team for not agreeing to waive his rights to having his likeness on a Topps baseball card.
Topps is a sponsor of the U.S. baseball team and has the rights to produce a card of each of the 22 players on the squad. The players get a small percentage of the deal and Topps keeps the rest, said Bob Bensch, communications director for USA Baseball.

The obvious solution is for fanatics to wait until they get to 94 topps as the chase in flagship and put an RC logo on it.

Correct!!
I think beckett back then put "FTC" next to the listing to indicate, "First Topps Card".
Am I remembering that correctly?
I seem to remember it next to Mantle's 1952 Topps card in the listings.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help. I think the confusion for me is on eBay sellers are marketing his 1993 topps cards as a “1993 Topps” card but when you look closely at the back of the card, it says 2005! LOL! A bunch of slick ricks on eBay!

1998 is his first Topps card but is not a rookie.

Yup that absolutely use to note cards as FTC. I haven’t bought a Beckett since 2001 but given Topps standing in the hobby Beckett would note FTC for cards where players had rookies in other previous sets such as players like Mays previously appearing in Bowman etc.

The other term I’m not sure where it stands today is the XRC (I believe Extended Rookie Card) for guys like Clemens who appear in 84 Fleer Update. The other cards noted as XRC were guys who first show up in Topps Traded sets.
