Default Will Howard Ohio State Champ to NFL Draft Climber, to NFL star?

Figured as the champ, and a draft riser, I'd start a thread.
Let's hear your thoughts on Howard, and see your cards.

I think he gets a shot with somebody like the Colts or Browns to be starter. Maybe a chance to sit behind Stafford for a season, and learn.

Can Will Howard be a NFL starter? I think that is a possibility, with proper development. Is a team going to draft him with the idea that he's starting his 1st year, or even 2nd year? IMO, that is highly unlikely. I think it's important to note that his draft position may be inflated a bit due to this QB class being underwhelming.

A big question is going to be how Will Howard performs outside of the OSU system. The talent that OSU has at WR is better than some NFL teams right now. Will seemed to thrive against man defense, but struggled mightily against Michigan (who has a DC who was most recently a DC in the NFL). He also struggled against PSU - these were the 2 best defenses that he faced in 2024.

Personally, I don't see him as a guy who will make an impact at the NFL level. But I will freely acknowledge that he could become an impact guy in the right situation, with the right development.

NFL Star? Absolutely not. NFL journeyman and backup - if he's lucky.

I can see him sitting a season behind an old vet- to me Rams makes a lot of sense. The teams I keep seeing him linked to as being a fit or worth taking a shot on, are the Browns, Colts, and the Steelers. He's got a good arm, he can run. Some of the tougher defenses could be a challenge. I don't want to see him go to the Browns (I don't want to see any young QB go there actually)

Some haters in this thread

Will he be a starter? Probably not. I certainly wouldn’t take him any earlier than say the 3rd or 4th round and obviously that would be to develop behind a veteran

Have you seen the QB garbage that is the NFL though?

He will easily have an 8-10 year career being 6’4’ and 235 with some wheels

Agreed. His size and ability to move are going to help him. He was easily 3rd-4th rd pre championship, but I have seen as high as second rd discussion with him and Dart jumping up boards

Wouldn’t surprise me

Use Cleveland again…

He can’t start there. He isn’t ready. We sign Kirk Cousins for 2 years (hypothetical)

He’s way better than DTR and he’s also better, at this stage in life, than Winston

He absolutely has a place in the NFL

Let’s keep pretending Tommy DeVito is good though

How so exactly? Don’t just make a blanket statement

Well he also hit for 2600 yards and 24 TDs in his last year at Kansas St and the prior year he led them to the Big 12 Championship. So he's done more than just throwing to NFL talent

He may never play on a team with a higher salary than the one he is leaving. It’s all downhill now for him.

To say Will Howard is better than Jameis right now is absurd.

Where exactly are the haters?

I have seen posters comp him to Drew Lock and Mac Jones. Those are very generous comps.

About as absurd as saying Muchigan and Penn St. Were the best defenses he faced this year.

…what is it about Ohio State fans that makes them SO dumb?

Texas is definitely close. They had a much better game plan than I expected against OSU. Based on how each team played OSU, I think Penn State is the 2nd toughest. Part of that was helped by the game being @PSU, as well.

If Morrison were playing for ND, I would agree - without him, I don't see them being at PSU's level. And Tennessee seemed to play their best in the first half of the year. Was not nearly as impressed with them the last half of the season.
