Default MVP Robbery!!

The Judge/Raleigh thread has me thinking about years where the MVP made no sense at all. Use this thread to post MVP years where someone got completely robbed!

I'll go first:

1970 -- Yaz finished 4th in the MVP voting behind the other 3 guys on this list (Boog Powell won it). He only received 2x first place votes! He led the league in Runs, OBP, SLG, OBP, WAR and lost the batting title by .0003

David Ortiz when he hit 54 homers. Finished 3rd behind Derek jeter who had 14 homers.

Remember, the goal posts always move depending on who the players are.

Albert Belle to Mo Vaughn

Babe Ruth only won 1 because the rule back then was you werent allowed to win more than 1.

Writers shouldn’t be voting for MVP. That’s what I get from this.

Here's another Cleveland robbery. Manny had a much better argument to win in 1999 than Judge has over Raleigh this year...

I think he had that off field issue by then that had soured people against him. If I remember correctly it was related to Halloween.

Ted Williams got screwed a few times. 1947 he had the triple crown, but the Yankees were a good team so Joe D wins.

1941 as well.

At least in 1941 you can argue the 56 game hitting streak.

But damn!

1999 Pedro Martinez should have won the MVP award. His WAR was 9.8 versus Pudge's 6.4, he won the pitching Triple Crown. Pedro had the most first place votes. He narrowly lost BECAUSE TWO VOTERS LEFT HIM OFF THE LIST COMPLETELY.

Maybe he should've stolen a few bases. Lazy.

Yeah, I’m still torn when it comes to pitchers winning MVP, but I got to watch a bunch of Pedro starts at Fenway in 1999 and they are probably my favorite in-person baseball memories of my lifetime.

Heinie Zimmerman won the Triple Crown in 1912 and finished tied for 6th in the MVP vote

He wasn't even the leading vote getter on his team. That went to Joe Tinker, who had a batting average 90 points lower than Zimmerman.
