Default Arena Club

Anyone actually pull a big card out of Arena Club packs?

I’m legit curious. They show off the grails and chase cards, but I haven’t hit a single chaser — forget a grail. I’ve ripped around 20 packs; about 15 of them came back at 40–50% of pack price so I just sold back. The others were break-even or a touch better.

Overall, I’d say the return feels better than ripping most current wax… but has anyone here actually landed a big one?

Out of curiosity...how much did those packs cost you?

This was my biggest pull. I only purchase one when they send a coupon code, and I always get the slab protection for guaranteed 80% buyback.

I've hit two chases in lower-end packs, never sniffed a grail The percentage odds are clearly stated in each product. It's a gamble for sure. I do it more for entertainment than anything else.

Some guy (on here maybe?) hit the Mahomes disco prizm rookie grail lately and sold it back. I can't imagine the bath some people take on the higher-priced packs.

Got this from a $25 misc pack after spending $400 or so.

Geoff Wilson's crew seems to hit some nice ones.

Is this the product backed by TV advertising on Fanduel baseball broadcasts?

See this hasn't been updated in awhile. I pulled this out of a $50 pack yesterday. I think it was one of the mid-tier chasers? The buyback offer they gave me was $72.

Right? Looks like Topps cut the top of the card with a bandsaw.

Leave it up to Topps to ruin a Donruss card.

I've done ok on there but very addicting so I rarely buy. Hit a Yamamoto green/yellow lava lamp RC auto I was super pumped and that was early last season, now that card is worth 2-3X. I have had good success trading on there and ended up with much nicer cards I wanted for my collection than what I pulled. EDIT - Also pulled a really nice PSA 10 Vintage Japanese Charizard from the Pokemon packs.

fwiw, everyone should open 1 pack on there since you can get 20% off first slab and then buy insurance where you are guaranteed 80% buy back. Floor is like 90% ROI and slightly positive EV when factor in chase cards. just have to not open more packs without discounts

Another foray into the $25 misc baseball pack hole netted me this (about $220 out of pocket before hitting the grail). Retrieved this one for my PC.

I don't participate in Slab Pack chasing often, but when I do, it's only when there are grails/chase cards that I would actually keep if I hit. In this case, there were 2 Ohtani grails (this one and some 2025 cherry blossom parallel PSA 10). Buying insurance is a must if you are gonna "chase", otherwise you will get smoked by the bottom tier pulls.

Also snagged a rookie Judge Bowman's best refractor PSA 8 during the Ohtani chase that I decided to retrieve because I figured adding a rookie Judge to my PC isn't the worst either, even if I despise the Yanks. Lol

That's what I did to start. Then did a couple more. All in did 4 $50 packs and got maybe $100 return. Not sure I'll do anymore than this.
  • 1986 Donruss Canseco PSA 9
  • 1962 Topps Bill Tuttle PSA 7
  • 2019 Ohtani Series 1 Gold Cup variation PSA 9
  • 2003 Topps Pristine refractor /99 Adam Dunn PSA 9

FWIW, I crunched the #'s for all of my slab pack buys (around 100, mostly $25 and $50, though I've toyed with $250/500/1k packs a handful of times).

Based on my data, I pulled a card worth MORE than the pack cost (before insurance) about 22% of the time (so 78% of the time equal to or less than pack cost). I've hit 2 grails (both $25 misc baseball, both times Ohtani funny enough). I've pretty much bought the insurance every time.

Basically, if you are chasing a grail ONLY so you can immediately sell it back, you are almost certainly gonna get burned. You probably will get burned no matter your motivation, but it's best if you are chasing cards you actually want to keep. Heard many a story of people chasing and hitting a grail, then selling it back to chase some more (why the hell are you buying then except for pure gambling?)! Have an exit strategy before you find yourself down hundreds or thousands of dollars with nothing to show for it.

When I hear about purchasing insurance, it makes me think of blackjack dealers asking the table if they want insurance when they have an ace showing

I got a grail! It’s called buying singles on eBay. Guaranteed 80% return. (You know, sales tax and eBay fees on resale). No thank you on the unregulated casinos.

you buy insurance when true count is like +4 generally although makes it obvious whats going on if you do.

I think my last pack was a 250 baseball and got a Christian Moore 1st gold auto PSA 10. maybee tiny win but was happy at least and quit

I haven't gotten any of the big hits but I got some nice variety. The first pack I ever bought was $50 and it had a Nolan Gorman Five Star RC auto, PSA 10 Noelvi Marte 1st Bowman Chrome, and a /75 Silver Pack RC of Nolan Schaunel. Another pack had a PSA 10 1st Bowman Chrome /25 auto of Austin Schultz. He's already retired but is one of the fastest growing sports influencers so it's a really cool card. Also got a Juan Gonzalez /9 auto, PSA 9 Paul Skenes 2024 Silver Pack , and AJ Vukovich Blue 1st Bowman auto
