Default Weekly Update (12/19/2008)

Friday, December 19, 2008

Here is what's NEW in the Card Market this week:

We had two very good releases this week. We've mentioned it before about getting information ahead of time on certain presell releases. Check the previous week's newsletters. We knew early on that both 2008/09 Topps Chrome Basketball and also 2008 Razor Encore were going to be tough to get which in turn could cause an early spike if the content was decent. Turns out that both products were killer breaks. 2008 Razor Encore will be a $1000 case from the start and should trek up to the $100 a Box or $1200 case mark. The breaks are tremendous and the pulls are unique which is what collectors want - something different. 2008/09 Topps Chrome Basketball will also do well with the great Rookie crop. If the regular Topps Basketball held up, Topps Chrome should spike into the $70-$75 range in a few weeks. It is good to see some products moving higher but that's now in the past. Our goal is to alert you on products that we think will move higher in the future with the information that we get ahead of time. A lot of this information is gathered from press releases and much of it is from our connections within many of the manufacturers. Every company wants to promote or pimp their products and put on a good "Spin". Our goal is to see through the usual hyped up news and report what we really think will happen when these products go live. Here is some info for this week:

Razor has been a huge hit and we find this trend will continue moving forward. Bank on this company until they prove you wrong. We could see some huge upside on their Oval Office product. There's never been anything like it with a $2500 price point per pack. With only 99 packs. There will not be enough to go around. They are also coming out with a Letterman Baseball product which will do well and we are also hearing about a 2009 RAZOR Historical Heroes Cut Signature Edition. This product features a much higher end cut selection than Cut Signature and Encore Cut Signature lines. Top Names include: Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, John F. Kennedy and many more. Factory cost $200/box. Each box contains one Beckett encapsulated cut signature card. This product IS NOT available to distributors, Internet retailers, or other NON BRICK AND MORTAR retailers. ONLY TRUE TRADING CARD BRICK AND MORTAR RETAILERS CAN ORDER this product.

Next we have received word that Topps has sold out of a bunch of products. 2008 Bowman Sterling Baseball, 2008 Topps Mayo Football, 2008 Topps Triple Threads Football, Topps American Heritage, 2009 Topps Baseball Series I, and 2008-09 Topps T-51 Murad Basketball. Just because they say they are sold out, it doesn't mean it will move up in price but it does help tremendously if the content is decent and it starts to spike early. It is good to know and we do feel a few of these items will run up higher. Mayo Football and the Murad Basketball have a good shot since they are 1st time releases. We also think that 2008 Bowman Sterling Baseball will be a big winner. As a bonus, each 4-box case will include a special redemption card for an (1) exclusive 2009 World Baseball Classic Patch Card. The Bowman Sterling has also been a very short product to start from the beginning of the ordering period.

Here are some others that we think will move higher that are upcoming:

2008 Playoff Prime Cuts Baseball - Small case print run and has a history of over delivering in value.
2008/09 Topps Hardwood Basketball - 684 #'d cases.
2008/9 Topps T-51 Murad Basketball - 599 #'s cases.
2008 UD SP Authentic Football - Top Rookie Jersey Auto patches will bring big money on ebay.
2008 Playoff National Treasures Football - Early word is Playoff is throwing everything into this last release of the year.
2009 Topps Ultimate Fighting Championship Trading Cards - ROUND ONE -Early Breaks should bring premium value on the niche Autos.

As for releases out currently, we see the following moving higher:

2008 Razor Encore Signature
2008/09 Topps Chrome Basketball
2008 Leaf Limited Football
2008 Topps Letterman Football
2008 UD USA Team Baseball
2008 Donruss Americana Sports Legends

2008 UD Goudey Baseball

Well you can't argue that the wax has gone through the roof though.

People who list this stuff in auction format are crazy. Fixed price is the only way to go.
