Default This is why you don't break Ultimate Collection and try to profit

Sales: (all w/ $3.00 shipping)

Autos:
Greg Olsen True RC Auto #/150 ($35.65)
Alan Branch Ultimate Signatures ($5.51)
Marcus McCauley Write of Passage (.99 cents)

Memorabilia:
Ted Ginn Jr/R. Meachem Dual Quad Jersey (2 Sided) #/99 ($6.05)
Matt Leinart Dual Jersey #/99 ($3.25)
Chris Henry Dual Jersey #/99 (.99 cents)

Ultimate Rookie Materials:
K. Kolb (.99 cents)
P. Willis ($5.50)
S. Rice (.99 cents)
Troy Smith ($3.50)

Base:
J. Kitna (.99 cents)
M. Harrison (.99 cents)
J. Walker (did not sell)
D. Brees (.99 cents)

I still have the Redskins Triple Auto #/15 and the Vince Young 3 color patch to go.

I spent $340.00

Sales so far: $66.00 plus making about $10.00 in shipping for a grand total of $76.00 plus two cards to go and that was pulling the 1 per case dual or triple auto.

I figured going in that I was going to lose about $200.00 on the purchase and I think I will be right in line with that. (and remember, that's pulling the case hit)

Their hockey products are great, no complaints at all. Their football products are just awful. And the funny thing is, they have no competition for their hockey products!!

Ahhhhh yes the 'ol Ultimate Collection FB box/case breaks......I remember them well. These packs are not for the faint at heart.
I love the way the cards look. I just hate when I get a case with very little secondary market value and getting a sick sick feeling in my stomach after a busting that case.

Ouch yea I don't understand why people break cases/boxes. I personally haven't cracked a box in a few years. I do packs here and there but nothing that big. I mean say you buy a case a month. And say you spend $12,000 on boxes a year. I would rather spend that money on the singles or hot rookies and vintage that you want and don't lose over 75% of your money like on this box. Heck even if you pull something great in some boxes, they still might not sell for more than the box is worth. I never understood cracking boxes other than the excitement of doing so. I have always been a singles buyer.

Thats why I gambled with just 1 box of FB ($300).

I will lose about $150 on the box.

I only did 1 box of Ultimate BB. ($280) I had a nice case hit (Ripkin/Yaz Dual Auto #/10) sold that for $200, I think I broke even with that box. Even with probally the best card in the case.

Ultimate is not a money maker at all. Even if you hit a (let say a Quinn auto RC #/99) you will still most likely lose money. Logos, 1/1's, etc are scarce and very unlikely. Its the thrill of a chance to pull one that makes us buy this stuff.

I'll do a box of Hockey when it comes out as well. (sucker)

I'll stick to making money with my hockey cases. The box of Ultimate was bought with all profit anyway.

This is a bit off topic, but does UD even have Tom Brady autos any more? How can you have UC and Exquisite and not have Brady autos? Is he Topps exclusive?

Alot of us have been preaching about avoiding (not so) Ultimate Collection on this board for awhile. Granted there are some big money cards but this is the toughest product to even get 1/2 of your money back on year in and year out. The boxes are wayyyy over priced. I'd rather open 4 boxes of Gridiron Gear for almost the same cost of 1 Ult Col. I even passed on hockey last year because you can buy alot of the autos off fleabay for under $10.
Avoid, avoid, avoid...........the risk far outweighs the usualreturn.

I bust cases and occasionally boxes because I take very good care when I'm opening the packs. I would much rather spend the money buying individual cards, but the truth is, there is very little care taken when someone is busting to sell everthing. When I bust products, the cards ALWAYS grade better than when I buy singles...AND I buy a lot of singles.

They use the same formula, hockey player collectors are more hard-core than football collectors.

I saw a guy pay $570 for a Brad Richards 1/1 from 05-06 Black Diamond. Brad Richards is on the level with Deon Branch in football, do you see anyone paying more than $40-50 for a 1/1 of him?

Did you turn a profit on UD1 yet? Are you on pace to?

KMD,

Brad Richards is a playmaker. He is very underated. He can't fight worth a spit(fought matt cullen the other night) but he is a playmaker. A lot of canadian buyers tend to over pay on their local players. I think its overpriced as well but it is a 1/1.

Oh yes, I sure did. Hitting 2 Carey Price Young Guns Exclusives definitely helped!

I bought a box of Ultimate Baseball this year and learned my lesson early. I will never buy Ultimate again, and I rarely if ever buy Upper Deck.

Also, Bowman Sterling really irritated me this year, I guess their Guaranteed Quality slogan can go into the toilet now. I spent over 300 bucks on Sterling and 50% of the cards I pulled were damaged, and this was factory damage to the sticker autos, plus two of my jersey cards, HAD NO JERSEY.

I sent Topps a letter, and they replaced the two cards and encouraged me to send in the autos too. I might do that, but I tell you this much, I'll never buy Bowman Sterling again either. A high end product like that needs better quality control, if they even have any, from the looks of the cards I got the guy/gal who was running Quality Control that day was either high, drunk, or stupid.. Perhaps all three.
