Default In your opinion, who is the better player to invest in?

I've decided to start stock picking Bowman Chrome auto's of one prospect maybe two. Being that it's off season the prices are down, so now is the time to buy. I don't know alot about prospecting, so I just figured I would buy and put aside until Spring.

I'm looking for a "Hype" player of their year, (Heyward/Wieters, Beckham/Posey, Freeman/Santana). Not looking for a player who is number #82 on the prospect list that you think might have a break out season.

Please explain why you picked the player you did.

Out of that list I'd go with Bubba Starling.

Mainly because I'm trying to imagine the Royals a few years from now when Starling is MLB ready and gets called up. If the Royals play their cards right by that time they might have put together an effecient pitching staff, have a line-up that has Butler, Gordon, Moustakas, Hosmer and Myers and be in playoff contention. If Starling gets called up and provides immediate impact (or any sort of impact) and the team goes deep into the post season chances are his prices might get a huge boost.

Now the player doesn't necessarily have to be on a team bound for the postseason to have their cards increase in price (this year's Mike Trout is a good example), but I just used that as a reason considering that the more mediocre the team is the less attention the player brought up is going to get. Which is the reason why I'd personally stay away from looking at Singleton, Soler and Lindor as investments as whether or not their teams will be in contention by then is anyone's guess.

That was my next question that you helped me out on. I was wondering if it isn't a top tier team would it reflect if the player gets called up and is successful. Thanks for the insight, much appreciated.

Yeah I like Bubba and Soler. But with that being said your also gunna spend more on those guys. I've been goin hard after Lindor, Archie Bradley and Skaggs cuz there chrome autos are still relatively cheap. All depends on how much money your lookin too spend.

Without looking at the list I'd go with batters over pitchers. All pitchers are one pitch away from Tommy John.

If I were you, I would go with players in the UPPER minors. Don't waste your time with guys in Rookie Ball, Low A etc. where they ZERO chance of making a major impact this year (since this is what you are going for right?). Go with guys at AA or above who are on the brink and have established themselves at that level. Usually guys that do well at AA or above, do well in the bigs.

There is a guy not on your list that I'm shocked you didn't even consider that I'm buying up now...he's going to be up (barring injury) in the bigs with a major market team in early 2013 IMO.

Oh, and don't forget about Harper. He's a great investment now since his prices are back down from his pre-playoff-meltdown.

Thanks for the info, that will make a major impact on who I decide to choose. Yes I would a player that I don't have to sit on for years, someone that should come up this upcoming season. I would like to know who your talking about with the guy that's not on my list.

As for everyone else that helped me I appreciate it.

I think right now my top 3 would consist of these players:

Skaggs
Solar
Starling

I'd avoid Bubba unless you want to sit on it for 3 years. Plus, he's already pretty pricey. If you're looking for someone you could buy up now and potentially sell next year, I'd recommend Zack Wheeler, Shelby Miller, or Travis d'Arnaud. They are all pretty reasonably priced, should be up early in 2013, and should produce.

With Wheeler you get the big market thing too. BTW, that's my guess who Messier was talking about.

well I wouldn't say I'm stocking up on him but I picked up a couple nice Bauers earlier this year. I've always liked good pitchers with nasty stuff and I think once he gets over his big league jitters and settles down a bit he's gonna be a solid pitcher in the majors...

Oscar Tavaras in my opinion..he was Crushing the ball toward the end of the minor league season this year...The cards will call him up for next season and my prediction is he wins NL ROY..great topic by the way

I like several guys not on your list, but just that list I would say Singleton by far... You have to consider entry price. Second, I would stay far far away from Starling. Starling is very expensive and still very very raw. Yes, I know I am in the minority on Starling.
