Default Topps “Fighter Issue” Cards Hit The Market

Topps “Fighter Issue” Cards Hit The Market

Set to be released in Topps UFC Round 2 are photo shoot style autographed cards of The Ultimate Fighter contestants. Fighters from TUF season 9 – US vs UK and TUF Season 10 – The Heavyweights, all have cards inserted in the new release. At the photo shoot, the fighters were also given some of the cards they signed for Topps, which are being dubbed “fighter issue” cards on the market. Some have already hit the market with autographs, most likely done in person, rather than at the certified signing session. The way to tell these autos apart seems to be the color of the ink used. The pack issued autos seem to have blue ink, rather than black ink.

Beckett Media and a Topps Company representative shed some light on the issue:

All in-product copies of the TUF cards will be signed on-card. But just as it does at other made-for-card events such as the NFL Players Rookie Premiere and the Aflac High School All-American Baseball Classic, Topps also provided the fighters who participated in the TUF 9 and 10 photo shoots with an undisclosed number of specially marked non-autographed versions.

“The fighters received copies of their cards as souvenirs to keep, trade, give to their friends and family, etc.,” the company said via a post on its blog. ”These cards were not signed in the presence of Topps or UFC representatives and therefore cannot be authenticated as such. Topps also does not place any hologram stickers on the cards, front or back.”

Regardless of the leaked cards on the market, it will be interesting to see how the market responds to the certified autographed cards. Notable names included are Kimbo Slice, Marcus Jones (former #1 NLF draft pick), and Roy Nelson.
