Default Zoop's Christmas Break - White Whale, HOF auto, ROTY auto, Yankee patch & more

Hey guys,

My mom always overloads me with wax, which feels weird and amazing as a guy rapidly approaching 30. Each year her health falters a bit more, so she continually goes above and beyond to "make the last one count." With my dad's death this year, I realized that Christmases are not an infinite thing; every time one ends, it's one less that you will have to look forward to. Even then, chances are you will outlive specific members of your family, making each Christmas one less you'll spend with that person you love. I always cherish Christmas, but I enjoyed this one a lot more than I normally do because of that. The wax was great, but the company was much better.

Every present is a reminder that you're thought of, every bite you take is an example of what your family brings to the table (pardon the pun), and every memory you share with a loved one is just another reminder of how good your life has been. Never let a Christmas--or any holiday or family celebration--go unappreciated.

Enough of the sentimental stuff, onto the break!

2012 Bowman Inception

The Jose Fernandez would be an amazing addition if I hadn't gotten two of them already in a group break, haha. Good names but zero color.

2012 Prime Cuts

I always hear people rag on this stuff, but I was curious. I love the design and I think I did great with it, personally.

Reggie Jackson GU Bat /99

Bernie Williams Auto Patch with Pinstripe /25!

I feel like getting Yankee patches is a tough thing in itself, so finding something of a Yankee I actually like that's numbered that low with a patch AND a pinstripe AND autographed is a toughy. Slight smudge on the auto but I'm not complaining. Really cool card for my PC. Loved watching Bernie play as a kid. Underrated player, which is tough for a Yankee.

2013 Leaf Memories

Not the best of breaks here, but my first Robin Yount auto! Pretty sweet. Hand numbered /19. The prospects autos weren't kind to me, with Jorge Alfaro /10, and base autos of Billy McKinney, Eloy Jimenez, Reese McGuire, and Hunter Dozier. Plain non-auto base included Kris Bryant and a Kenny Rogers 1/5.

2013 Topps Triple Threads

I finally hit a White Whale! Sadly, it was the worst player on the checklist! Haha.

Derek Norris 1/1 White Whale. Really cool patch. I love the way these cards look in person. This is the first I've ever seen of them in person, so I was impressed. I'll definitely put it in my PC since it's only a $30 card, but it's my only WW.

My other hits included a jumbo Will Clark bat /18 and a Will Middlebrooks /25 auto relic, my first card of either player.

My fourth hit was a damaged Jaime Garcia jersey card, which I'm mailing back to Topps. My parallels included a sweet purple Greg Maddux and I got a Smoltz base for my PC.

I didn't blow the doors off of any of the boxes I got, nor did I even break even in value, but I had a lot of fun and got several cards I won't ever be moving. My favorite card was the Bernie Williams patch/auto--genuinely excited to pull that. If only that WW would have been any other player... alas, love it all the same. Happy holidays!

Not quite sure if you're looking to move the Clark, but if so, let me know! I'd be thrilled to pull that.

Nice stuff man. I feel the same way with my grandma. She doesn't buy me cards or anything, but she has dementia and it is hard to see her decline. I know she appreciates seeing us, so it's all worth it.

Sorry to hear about your grandma, Homerun. My mom is all I have left, as my dad and grandmother passed away.

Yessir, I'd be happy to facilitate a trade or perhaps a cash deal (but more likely a trade). I collect Cardinals.

Love your posts, Zoop. My girlfriend and I picked up a box of Topps Chrome Hobby and busted it on our way to the Mall for our procrastination shopping. We went through the whole box while going 5mph all the way, but it was one of the most fun and memorable times we've had busting wax. Pulled a /15 auto of Paco Rodriguez, a Dodger reliever, which was an added bonus.

Great story, two thumbs up from this guy. Can't agree more!

That being said, LMK if you're moving the Hanson/JoFer/Polanco!

I've written for many video game magazines and websites (my industry of choice), and I'm on a salary basis at IGN.com. I write for fun at my blog, Which Button Jumps, whenever I get time. Recent articles include the story of how I proposed to my fiancée, the worst flight I've ever been on, and a trip to the shooting range as a liberal nancyboy.

Nah, I'm way open minded. Patches get my attention above all else.

Awesome cards and a great read my grandpa just passed away before the holidays. Even though he was a cubs and bears fan (I'm white sox and packers), we still got along pretty well haha
