Default 2009 Topps UFC round 2 rookie auto's heating up...

When 2009 Topps UFC Round 2 auto's began popping up on eBay, most MMA collectors were well aware that this product was LOADED with some really good Rookie Auto's. With the success of Topps UFC Round 1, many collectors were furiously breaking boxes of round 2 right out of the gate and posting their auto's on ebay. The Round 2 singles market on ebay was essentially flooded within days. At any given moment, you could find more than 20-30 separate Jon Jones Blue Auto auctions running at the same time. The smart speculators, were picking up Jon Jones, Shane Carwin, and Junior Dos Santos auto's right out of the gate for a fraction of what they sell for today. Just a few months ago, the market seemed flooded with these cards. Things have apparently changed. It's now looking like the product is starting to finally dry up as evidenced by the recent sale pricing of many of the hotter first time auto's in Round 2. Collectors a year from now will be looking back at Round 2 cards and kicking themselves for not picking up more of these when they had the chance.

Here's a closer look:

Jon Jones Blue Auto:

When these cards were released back in October of 2009, you could have picked these up for about $13/per

The last few that have ended on ebay have closed around the $50 mark

There is little doubt that after his dominant performance against Brandon Vera, collectors will be paying strong for Jon Jones Auto RC's from this moment on. Jon Jones blue auto's could approach $100+ per if he wins his next fight. Early rumors are surfacing that if Jon Jones wins his next fight, he will get a title shot. If he becomes champ, Jon Jones Blue Auto RC could very well approach the $200+ levels previously reserved by the likes of GSP, Machida, Lesnar, BJ Penn, and Anderson Silva (all current champs of their respective weight classes). It's almost an unwritten rule with UFC cards that all current champion Blue auto RC's sell for at least $150-200.

Shane Carwin Blue Auto:

Currently, Carwin Blue Auto's are closing anywhere from $25-$40.

Topps UFC Round 2 AUTO * SHANE CARWIN * Heavyweight!

As Shane Carwin sets to take on Frank Mir this weekend at UFC 111, his Blue Auto RC's may see a huge spike in pricing if he wins. A convincing win this weekend against Frank Mir will solidly position Carwin for a Heavyweight showdown vs the equally regarded up-and-coming Cain Valasquez with the winner getting a shot at the title vs Brock Lesnar. There is a mini 4-man tournament going on right now in the UFC Heavyweight division. With the winner of this mini-"tourney" getting a shot at Brock's belt. If Carwin wins this weekend, pick up his Blue Auto's now as they will be sure to pick up steam in the weeks before his fight against Valasquez as the UFC without a doubt will be heavily pumping up this future fight. If Carwin beats Mir and then stops Cain, his Blue Auto RC will be selling for $100-$150 in time for his fight against Brock Lesnar.

There are many other Round 2 First Time Auto's that deserve a second look besides the two mentioned. Ryan Bader, Dan Hardy, Anthony Johnson, Junior Dos Santos...these are all very talented, young, up-and-coming fighters that could all make their mark in the coming months.
