Default Some more Mantle PC pick ups

Focused on a 50s run with good eye appeal. More interested in centering and HW the card presents vs grade and trying I find the best examples in low/mid grade at great prices. First two are new, others are the rest of my PC so far:

I hate prospects. If I could stay away from 19 year olds on shiney cards with ink scribbles my collection would include classics such as these. Well done OP, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words. Going after the run, all well centered has been a fun challenge. Good thing is there aren't 1000 cards to chase so I can be patient and selective. That 52 Topps is going to be a tough one though. Might hold that for last unless something really amazing comes around.

-I'm taking the lower grade approach with my Mantle PC as well, mainly due to budget constraints. Even if i had more money, though, sometimes finding that lower grade card that just looks great is fun to hunt for.

Nicely done, feel free to post up the rest of your PC if you get a chance/as it comes.

Wow, that '51 has great eye appeal! Would love to find one similar grade with that kind of centering for the PC.

Thanks for all the kind words. Really enjoying the 50s stuff and its pulling me more into the vintage baseball world and away from my basketball stuff. Will go back to the 80s NBA stuff eventually but the older baseball stuff is a blast to chase.

My thinking is anyone with major money to spend can find the high grade stuff. I am not rich by any means so lower grades are not only attainable but a real challenge to find with the eye appeal of a much higher grade card. No Mantle cards are pop rare, there are tons available at any given time. Finding that PSA 3 that hits your eye like a 6 is a real chore. I've been stalking 51s for a long time and that one just jumped at me.

-Did you go through eBay/Blowout/other online sources for these or did you find them at shows/shops?

I don't have much choice unless i want to drive a heckuva lot to shows outside the state, so i'm left with online for when i hunt.

Just curious.

Mostly eBay. I live in NYC so the only LCS in my area gets a few Mantles from time to time but they tend to be a little overpriced. The 52 Bowman was a pick up from the National and the rest have been on eBay. I'm always looking at the big auction sites like Mile High or REA but ended up finding the 51 on eBay surprisingly.

The 51 bowman I have always thought that was a great looking card. Nice collection.

Incredible collection! You need to add the '55 Bowman. it's the only Mantle I own from my favorite set of all time.

Thanks! Is that your 52 topps in the avatar? If so I'm jealous as well. Still hunting for mine. Narrowly missed a stunning psa 1 this week. That's my next target for sure!

No, it's my dream card. It's about a mid range, and still runs a bit over 14k. I'm saving for it.

Low grade, big eye appeal is the goal. Its been a really fun hunt so far. The 52 Topps is going to be a whale though...

Just picked up a '55 Bowman and a '68 Topps this week. Love vintage Mantle stuff! Picked up his Armour coin (blue) last month at a show. I have to say, that '51 Bowman is very nice. I know you said that you aren't rich by any means but surely that was a four figure card, so I will have to live vicariously through your collection on that one LOL!
