Default Bowman VS Bowman Chrome VS Bowman Draft

Can anyone explain the difference between these?

Say the year is 2014.
Bowman Draft would be for top prospects from the 2013 draft?
And then Bowman and Bowman Chrome repeat prospects that were previously featured in a Draft product and also new, hot prospects?

Am I right? Can a couple of you dumb it down for me and a friend of mine. We just aren't fully understanding the products in relation to the players found within them.

Thanks, you insight is appreciated

bowman draft-all players from that years draft (2014 draft this year)

reg bowman- players who got left out of bowman draft(always the #1 and 2 picks), plus other hot prospects

bowman chrome- more prospects that got left out of these two products, the stinkiest bowman product

OP, I just got into baseball, and I am still struggling to figure it out.

Are the Bowman Chrome cards from "Bowman" numbered the same in "Bowman Chrome"???

I prefer Bowman Chrome only because I don't like the mixing of paper and chrome cards and the numbering system. I am sure it is pretty simple, but nobody has explained it to me in a way that I get yet.

I better get to work on my 2013 Bowman Chrome set and finish my 2014 Bowman set of Chrome before 2014 Bowman Chrome comes out...see how ridiculous that sounds? Oh and I also need to do the 2013 Draft Chrome set...but at least I know there is a difference between that Chrome and the other Chromes...

Bowman Draft comes out last in the calendar year in November or December, but I consider it first because it is the first with the new draft class. It includes a lot of the top picks in the draft, but almost always the top few are saved for next year's bowman. It also includes top prospects as base cards and rookie base cards and autos. This is generally considered the best.

Bowman has the top prospects left out (usually the selling point of Bowman) and various other prospects, some lower in the draft and some who have been around for a little while. It usually is decent and has a huge range from the $200 base autos to the base autos not even worth shipping.

Both Bowman and Bowman Draft have chrome on card autos, and chrome and paper base cards. Both type of base cards have the same number for each player but the 2 sets are completely different.

Bowman Chrome comes next with the leftover prospects, it only has chrome base cards that are different from the other 2. It usually comes out around the same time as Topps Chrome (which is rookie based) and is considered the worst of the 3.

Wow, thanks for the clear answer.
And so whatever Bowman auto comes out first for a player is their "best" RC?
Even if that first chrome auto is from Draft?

Bowman (aka Bowman w/Chrome) - stars, rookies paper set (220 cards) + prospect paper & chrome set (#d 1-110).

Bowman Chrome - stars, rookies chrome set (220 cards, not the same as paper set in bowman) + prospect chrome set (#d 111-220).

Bowman Draft - rookies paper & chrome set (45 cards in 2013) + prospect paper & chrome set (prospects only from 2014 draft, 130 cards in 2013) + top prospect paper & chrome set (45 cards in 2013, typically already have previous prospect cards).

So when would we know when autos/players in bowman become valuable. Say I load up on blac/green autos. When would these guys start jumping in value?

You have to track their progression through A, AA, AAA then they usually make their biggest jump when they are called up to the majors. They skyrocket if players get off to good starts i.e. Abreu/Harper/Trout

You never really know. All I know is that by the time I went to by Yordano Ventura his base chrome autos had went from $7-$30. i almost bought a lot of 5 for $70 if I remember correctly, but I didn't think he would be as good as he has turned out to be. I honestly pictured him to be like Tom Gordon...up and down, terrible then great, then back around to terrible

Collecting Bowman = A lot of time

At least it sounds like that to me. And this is why I may not do any prospecting...even though I think it would be fun...during the baseball season it is a lot of fun...but once my team is eliminated I loose about 50% of my interest, then once the World Series is over I loose another 40% of my interest, and I do not gain it back until I feel Spring Training coming on after the Super Bowl in early February. So from October to February I pretty much just watch for Royals news and lose track of the guys I had been watching.

There isn’t any rule when it comes to Bowman, it all depends on the size of and who is on the checklist. It never hurts to preorder any Bowman release.

I’ve spent a little more time doing some research and it really seems like Bowman Draft would hold the most profit if you are willing to hold it sometimes 5-6 years. Bowman Chrome is more of a right now scenario with only the top prospects and veterans and RC all in Chrome, no paper, which is my preference. I wish Draft was a Chrome only product. Maybe 5 cards per pack, 24 packs per box with one auto, Jumbo would be 15 cards per pack 8 packs per box with 3 autos, and Super Jumbo would be 20 Chrome cards per pack with 10 packs per box and 5 autos.

But I just love Chrome cards of all types!

Yes. It makes sense for the people who were looking for those guys to be interested in the products they were in. That doesn’t necessarily mean Bowman is better than Chrome or Draft. Again it all depends on the checklist. Vlad Jr., Soto, Tatis, Bellinger, Yordan came out of Bowman Chrome. Kelenic, Gorman, Adell, Judge, Royce, Kirilloff, Alonso all came out of Draft.

Traditionally I find Bowman Draft is better

But it all depends on checklists year to year

But so far there is not a bowman (prospect) paper release with cards number 151-300
So you can have a complete set of chrome prospects 1-300
But not paper...kinda stupid...

Wish topps would make it easier,
Bowman series 1, Bowman series 2 and then Bowman Draft.
All 3 products have paper and chrome

I wish there was a first Bowman list somewhere, both auto and non auto. It's already confusing enough as is plus Topps has 1st on some that are not 1st and nothing on some that are 1st.

The whole Kris Bryant thing confuses me sometimes as well.

I may be wrong on this, but what I see/read about Bowman vs Bowman Draft is that they will hold players back to spread out players in each release so there is always at least a few players to chase.
