Default Elite-graded 1952 Topps gems hit Memory Lane auction block

Elite-graded 1952 Topps gems hit Memory Lane auction block

“Let’s play two” is an understatement of how exciting this one is.

Ernie Banks‘ memorable phrase comes to mind when two of the biggest PSA-graded gems from 1952 Topps come to mind — even though Mr. Cub wasn’t around to be found in those packs.

Up for grabs as part of Memory Lane‘s Summer Treasures auction, found now at, are a PSA 8.5 Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps card and a PSA 8 wax pack from the famed set. Only 10 Mantles have graded higher from PSA.

The card had been a PSA 8 but was re-examined after PSA added half-grades to its 10-point grading scale. What might this card fetch? Well, in 2007, Memory Lane sold two PSA 9s for $375,000 apiece.

The pack is something special, too, as it is the highest-graded specimen available.

“This is the highest known graded 1952 Topps pack,” said Memory Lane’s J.P. Cohen. “We’ve put the pre-sale estimate at between $20,000-$30,000.”

In December 2009, Memory Lane sold an unopened 1952 Topps 5-cent wax pack for $15,406.
