Talking Hollywood42's Rolling Pickups Thread- 2016 Edition

It's back! This will be the thread in which I show off my acquisitions during the 2016 year. If you are interested in checkout out last year's thread, here is a link to it- http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/b...ad-2015-a.html

I'm heading back to college for J-term tomorrow, so this thread won't have much activity to start the year. This first post will be pretty short as well, as I just have a single card to show off that came in the mail today. I have a few trades that should be in the mail, but as tomorrow is Sunday, I won't get anything new before I have to go back. But, I'm a fan of my first pickup of the new year. Check it out!

2015 Bowman Chrome Prospect Profiles Orange Refractor Byron Buxton #ed 05/25!

This card came in via a trade, and I am happy to be able to add it to my collection! Big thanks to the BO member that I made the trade with, as they were easy to work with and very flexible in finishing out a deal. I really like the oddball sized prospect cards/refractors from the past few Bowman/Chrome released (Prospect Profiles, Farm's Finest, etc etc), so I'm happy to add one that will be harder to find to my collection! Really hoping 2016 is Buck's year too. He struggled in his first MLB stint last year, but there's plenty of time for him to figure it out and become a solid MLB player, if not a star. Hopefully later this year we'll be able to look back at this post and laugh at when people called him a bust after his short MLB time last year

That's it for this post! As I said earlier, back to college tomorrow, but I should have some packages waiting for me when I get another week off at the end of January. Thanks for the look, I'm looking forward to seeing what 2016 brings to my collection!

I'm still stuck at college for a few more days, but my girlfriend visited last weekend and picked up some packages I had at home for me so I could dig into them early. Still working my way thru everything (goes sooooo much slower while in school), but here's about a third of the goods so far. Pretty much just base and a few low end inserts, but wanted to share-

2015s

Includes a Mauer GQ Framed Bronze /499 and a Buxton RC

2014s

2013s

2012s

Single 2011

2010s

Liriano /2010, Span and Butera are refractors, Liriano Chrome /1961

Odd how the minis turn out bigger than the normal cards...

Most expensive card is probably worth 50 cents, but I like sharing pretty much everything I get- Makes it a lot more fun to look back on from time to time

Like I said, I have a bunch more in addition to this that I haven't gotten pictures of yet, so those will be coming soon. Also received an incredible gift from another member on here, and you'll want to see that! Thanks for the look!

Highly encourage it, it's a lot of fun to not only share your new stuff with everyone, but also to look back and see what you've gotten in the past month, year, etc

Today was Twinsfest day for me! Usually one of the biggest days of the year for my collection pickups, but today was a bit lighter than Twinsfests in the past have been. Anyways, here's my write-up from the day. Copy-pasted the rest of this from the Twinsfest thread, but pretty sure it all works out-

Here's my obligatory write-up of the day-

Back for another year! Got there about 10 min before the gates opened, didn't mind standing out in the cold for a little bit, probably was the warmest Twinsfest morning in recent memory. First headed to the yard sale, where there wasn't much left, as expected. Had the chance to buy a Swarzak or Hicks jersey from Jackie Robinson day, which was cool, but they were each $150 and more than I was willing to pay. Think they may have just been team-issued jerseys too, not actually game worn, but not sure. Saw a cool Scott Diamond jersey as well, would have got that if it was a more reasonable price- Like him, super nice, but too expensive. The bats they had was basically the Chris Parmelee clearance sale. Actually saw a Herrmann bat, but passed on it. Going to save the money for memorabilia on someone with the team and that I like more. So, yard sale wasn't anything special, as usual

From there, I think we went down to the service level and checked out all the dealer tables. Thumbed thru a lot of cards, saw some cool ones, but didn't buy any all day. Kinda disappointing, but just wasn't seeing anything I couldn't live without, and a lot of stuff has high prices. I did stop at Fan HQ and dug thru their player memorabilia discount bins- Needed something for Eddie Rosario to sign later, and they so happened to have a full storage bin of goodies from him. Narrowed it down to a warmup pullover (which in retrospect probably would have been a lot easier to sign), or an interesting pink camo arm compression sleeve. Thought it was a cool, interesting and different item, so I went with the sleeve. Here's what it looked like before being signed-

Fan HQ said it was game worn, or may have been worn in batting practice but couldn't give any more specific information, so I did some research later on while waiting in line, hoping to find a picture of Eddie wearing something similar in a game. I can determine he was not wearing it on the May 10th Mother's Day game this past year, and I don't think he would have worn in another other game. Might just be a batting practice worn item, I'm not sure. Fan HQ has been refutable, so I think it's safe to assume it was worn by Eddie at some point somewhere along the way, just don't know where- Majors/minors, in game/batting practice, etc etc. If you can help me out at all with this, I'd appreciate a line!

From there, we just walked around a bit more, always fun to chill in the champions suite right behind home plate. Messed around for a bit more and then decided to go get some food before the first attempt at getting some autographs. So we did our thing, then went upstairs to get in line for the Plouffe/Bruno/Joe Vavra. Ran to the bathroom first, and on the way out, walked right past Trevor with nobody else around. Said hey, he asked how I was doing, I said good. Day in the life at Twinsfest Walked to the back of the line then, didn't get there until about 10 min before, because I assumed this wouldn't be one of the more popular lines of the day. Man was I wrong. This took place in the suite level on the third base side, and the line stretched clear around, probably all the way past even with home plate. Ended up being cut off about 20 people short of making it thru, so I missed out on that trio. A bit disappointing as I didn't have Plouffe on anything yet, had a card I was excited to get Bruno on, and need just the elder Vavra on a baseball I already had his sons Tanner and Treyson sign to finish off the trio. It wasn't my biggest want for the day, but it was a little bit disappointing. Should have gotten there just a little bit earlier I guess, would have been fine then. But oh well!

From there, next line I wanted to hit was the $5 Eddie Rosario (and others), as well as the $5 JR Murphy/Jorge Polanco/Melotakis line at 315. Had some time, so we went back down to the service level and walked thru the Twins clubhouse. Always a cool thing to go thru, even after being in there each of the past few years. Then explored a few more areas we hadn't been in yet, had just enough time for an ice cream break, and then headed to the Rosario line a good half hour early. That line was pretty long too, but I got thru no problem. Before going thru, I was having a bit of a crisis trying to figure out what kind of pen I should have Eddie sign the arm sleeve with- A sharpie just didn't seem like it would turn out very well, but I wasn't sure if my paint pen would stick super well or not. The sleeve is pretty elastic and slippery, so I was worried nothing would write very easily on it. I would up giving him my paint pen, and while it took a bit (had to stop a time or two when the sleeve bunched up on itself while he was signing), he was nice enough to take it slow and make sure it turned out alright. I think it turned out ok. Could be a bit better, but it definitely could have been a lot worse. I was going to ask him if he remembered wearing anything like that before, but ended up not, as he seemed quieter and I had to ask him if he would use my pen, I apologized for having an item that was tougher to sign, ask for my pen back, etc. Don't like talking too much to the players, especially in longer lines as I know what it's like to have the line cut off just in front of you Anyways, here's the end product-

Closer shot of the auto-

Like I said, definitely could be a bit better, but it could have been a lot worse. I doubt paint pens are the best thing for this kind of material, but it looks alright and is a cool item to add to my collection!

The other players in the Rosario line were Logan Darnell (spaced out for a good 20 seconds staring off into the distance when I got to him, it was pretty awkward. Rosario ended up jabbing him, I wasn't sure if I should have said something to bring him back to earth or not. It was WEIRD), Stephen Gonsalves (dude is big, kinda looks bad- I like him), and Yorman Landa (was rocking the sunglasses swag on top of his head). Added them all to a mini helmet I've been using for the lesser named players I started last year. Will have a picture of the current state of the helmet later on in this post

With the first autographs successfully completed, I ran over to the other side of the floor, the first base side to see if I could get thru the line with JR Murphy, Jorge Polanco, and Mason Melotakis before time ran out. Turned out not to be a problem at all- There was literally no one in line, save one chick that was entering the line just ahead of me. Got Murphy on a ROMLB- Nice guy, but seemed a lot more interested in the chick ahead of me than me for whatever reason... -_-

Had Polanco sign a 2014 Update rookie card, turned out pretty nice! He was a nice guy but didn't say much

And finally, added Melotakis to the mini helmet (pics lower still). He was the nicest and most talkative of the bunch, but nobody I had met yet today had really impressed me with conversation, etc yet

From there, we messed around a little bit and then headed back down to the service level to get in line for Jose Berrios. Got in line a half hour early, as I thought his line would be really long. We waited out in the hallway while the previous autograph session finished up, and during that time, I went over to look at some of the stuff a different Twins booth was selling- They had some lineup cards (cool but too expensive), locker room tags (nobody left I wanted to spend the money on), signed jerseys/bats, an authentic seat from Target Field (?), as well as some banners that hung outside the field in the past. Those really interested me, price was decent, so I wound up getting one. It's pretty big, probably 6 feet tall. Will make a nice display in a man cave in the future when I get my own place. They had All-Star Game themed ones from when we hosted, and generic Twins Territory ones. Liked the ASG ones better, so I went with that one. Here's subpar pics of the front and back, hard to get a good pic of something that big-

Waited in line a bit longer and eventually we moved into an extremely warm room where the autograph session took place. Line was amazingly short. I was anticipating a really long line for Berrios, but wasn't complaining. Got him on a ROMLB-

Stuart Turner was also in that line, and I added him to the mini helmet. He was the last one I got on the helmet today, so it's finally safe to show off how it currently looks-

I'm going to have to go back and do a bit of research to figure out who all is where, as the only legible one sig is Turner. I do remember getting Tyler Duffey (bill) and AJ Achter (right side nearest bill) on it last year, but I lost track of who signed where from the other lines today, so I'll have to figure that out again later. All in all tho, it has sigs of Achter, Darnell, Duffey, Gonsalvez, Landa, Melotakis, and Turner. Think I'm going to keep using those mini helmets for sigs of those lesser named players, it looks cool, holds a bunch of guys, and I have a bunch of helmets to spare. Works pretty well

At that point, I was pretty tired, back was hurting from carrying around my backpack full of stuff and standing all day, so I was getting to the point where I was kinda done with the day. The line with Byung-Ho Park was signing at this time and I probably could have gotten him (plus deVries and Becquer), but I didn't want to do another line, so I didn't. I did walk thru and looked at a bunch more cards from the dealer tables again, but still didn't get anything. I'm kind of annoyed at that, as I probably spent a good hour and a half in total today looking at cards but didn't buy anything, but it is what it is. Decided to pack it up and head home from there

All in all, probably one of the least eventful days of Twinsfest I have ever been to, but still got some cool pieces and had a good time. Wish I had a bit more goodies to bring home with me, but I can't complain too much. Feeling a bit bummed, but that's probably more to do with me going the last few nights without much sleep at all. Might have a little bit to do with none of the players I got autos from seemed super excited to be there or had much energy in interacting. Couple of nice guys, couple of quieter guys, a few really awkward interactions. I dunno, in the past there's always been one or two guys that I walk away from smiling more from my interactions with them than from whatever they had just signed for me, and that didn't really happen this year. Just a big disappointing I guess. Still pretty excited about a couple of these items. I'm sure I'm leaving out some details here and there, but that's the majority of what went down for me today. Thanks for the read!

Thanks you guys, the sleeve is my favorite item from the day too. Was a fun day even with fewer items at the end of the day!

I'm on J-break right now, so I've been trying to catch up with some cards I've gotten in from trades lately. Probably will have a bunch posted up here later today or tomorrow

As promised, here's a bunch of cards I've gotten in recently via a few different trades. Good to finally get just about all caught up

2015s- Vargas is prizm auto, Mauer SC gold foil-

2014s-

2013s- Meyer purple refractor

2012s- Hendriks refractor, Morneau mini that shows up bigger than everything else for some reason

2009s- Herrmann and Stillings both blue refractors /99

2007s-

2006s- Mauer red-

2005s- Plouffe red xfractor /65-

As usual, nothing crazy, but a nice mix of set help across the board. Really like the Vargas ink and the Plouffe /65 from his rookie year. Thanks for the look!

Alright, just 2 pieces to share today, but they're pretty nice! Got both of these in awhile ago, but have had some editing issues and just getting around to getting them up now.

First up is a nice green refractor /99 of Miguel Sano from 2015 BC Prospect Profiles! Really like these cards, love the different colors! Have a complete Twins set of the regular version already, picked up a Buxton orange /25 (see first picture in this thread), so I think I'm going to be slowly picking up more colors as I can

Next up is a huge PC item that was sent to me for FREE from a friend here on the boards. I'm still stunned by his generosity and having trouble figuring out what to say, so let's just get to the item. Here's one side of it.....

And here's the other!

For those of you that aren't aware, that sig is of Chris Herrmann!!! Needless to say, this is a massive pickup for me. The member who sent me this said he got it at the end of the year a year or two ago when the Twins were giving away a bunch of stuff at the field after the last game of the year. Well, he got Herrmann's batting glove and got it signed at Twinsfest later on, and it looks super awesome! It doesn't show heavy signs of game use, but you never know. I think at the very least, it could be a team issued thing, but no matter what the case is, it's a super awesome piece that I am stoked to add to my collection! HUGE thanks again to member mnvikingstwins for the amazing PC item! Your generosity stunned me and I still am amazed over this item!

Nothing too special tonight, just getting caught up on some cards I've gotten in but haven't gotten updated with until now. No real order here. Nicest card is the Mauer /50 that is one of the 5 billion Polo Grounds inserts that is shown first. Nothing too special outside of that one

Appreciate it! The next few weeks will be mostly base and really low end cards, but I really like when those can be appreciated as much as a superfractor or some crazy patch

So, let's start now. I'm finally all caught up on my new cards I've gotten in from trades, etc the last few weeks, so now I can finally dig into one of the two 800-count boxes of Twins I brought with me to school to mess around with when I can. These have been mostly unfiltered, as I haven't gone thru them before. Majority will be boring base cards, but as I mentioned, I like to post everything I get as I think all cards can be appreciated equally. So, here's my work from tonight, just a handful of cards to get posted up

Like I said, not much in terms of quality, but it's nice having a box or two of unsearched Twins cards that I can go thru in my free time and see what I need for my sets. My progress thru these will be fairly slow, as for each card in the boxes, I need to check and see if I need it for a set or not, and then if I do not, I'll take a picture of it, upload it to SCA, download it to my computer for a project I have going on, crop and resize the local image, and then finally post the SCA version here. But, it's a nice release from schoolwork and college living when I have a few minutes here and there. And I really don't have much of any idea of what's in the boxes, so I may find some nice surprises waiting for me! But, we will have to wait and find out later, as this is all I have time for tonight. Anyways, thanks for the look and I hope you will enjoy going thru my 2 boxes with me over the next few weeks!

We have an early candidate for my potential best pickup of 2016 already! You may have already seen this thread I posted a few days ago- http://www.blowoutcards.com/forums/b...ctor-club.html

Since I already did a writeup in the thread linked above, I won't bother with any fancy introductions or anything

I am incredibly excited to add my first superfractor to my collection- The 2012 Bowman Chrome Brian Dozier Superfractor RC!!!

Apologies for the poor picture, I haven't actually seen the card in person yet, but will be home soon to check it out for myself. Will update with clearer pictures then

Shoutout to Thundering24, a BO member that put me in contact with the Dozier's former owner. Was able to work out a deal, so here it is! This also all but guarantees that I will soon be able to complete the full rainbow (excluding plates) pretty soon- Only missing the xfractor, green, purple, and blue, all of which are pretty easily attained! Here's a look at my current progress, excluding the super for now until I can get it in hand to do some editing-

That's all I have for today, but I don't think I could ask for a lot more! Reallllllly pumped about adding Dozier's RC super to my collection, I think he is a great player and he has become my favorite Twin over the past few years. Thanks for the look!!

I was finally able to get home to my new Dozier superfractor! Really excited about it so let's just get to it! These things are kinda tough to get pictures that do it justice, but here's the best one I took. So stoked!

Updated look at the rainbow that will soon be completed-

Have a few more packages to take care of this weekend, but was super excited about this one and had to get it up first! Thanks for the look

Tough to follow up that Dozier super, but I do have some more cards I've gotten in recently to show off. Here they are!

Finally landed a gold refractor of Trevor May for my '15 Finest rainbow of him at a decent price-

Here's the progress with the base rainbow so far-

Looking really good!

Next up is a care package from my buddy Homerun. A bunch of us are in a dynasty fantasy baseball league and have sent packages to each other for fun. Had a few nice cards in mine from him! Here's the better cards-

Rosario RC orange refractor /25 (my favorite), Dozier refractor /499, Cuddyer purple refractor /299

Also got a bunch of base/inserts from HR. Haven't scanned all of them yet, but here's a few of them-

Thanks again, Homerun!

Also got a little package from another friend, 88UDKidGriff. He's also in our dynasty league, but this was a little prize for winning a fantasy football league we were both a part of last here. Here's my favorite-

Kent Hrbek/Ken Schrom dual IP/TTM auto- Looks super cool!

Also got a bunch of base/inserts from KidGriff as well, including a bunch of Vikings cards as well. Haven't gotten to getting pictures of all of these yet either, but here's a few of them-

Thanks again, KidGriff!

That's all for now. Was nice to be able to get home from college for awhile and do a bit with cards. Don't think I have anything incoming right now, but hope to have some more goodies to show off during spring break in a few weeks. Thanks for the look!

Nothing really technically new in this post, but I've been continuing my project of scanning all the Twins cards in my PC so I can get a nice visual depiction of what I have, and wanted to get caught up in sharing those again. No real order here, huge mishmash of stuff, going to take me a few waves to get caught up when I have time to copy/paste stuff, but here goes-
