Default First card ever graded with BGS...kind of disappointed with the result

Obviously was hoping for 9.5, I bought it on COMC and graded it through them without ever taking possession of it. Hopefully its not scratched and I can crack it out, wipe it down, and maybe resubmit for a bump. These cards don't seem to be really sensitive on the surface so I don't know.

There is a white spot that appears along the bill of his cap on the graded copy, that didn't appear on the original scan COMC had for it. Probably should have just had it mailed to me first.

Here is the raw pic

You may have to see it in person to figure out what the surface blemish is that got you the 8.5

Sorry it's "only" Mint.

Not sure Ginter cards can be "wiped down", so be careful.

As for where you bought it, im not a fan as most cards surface defects are hidden by the scanning program they use for speed

That white spot might be on the outer case. There is some type of horizontal line going through his hat. I think that is what probably got the surface grade dinged. It doesn't look like a scratch, but a printing imperfection.

Nice "card"

It's still nice for the "PC" but I'm "real sorry" about the "solid subs" getting dragged down by the "surface".

Good catch, never noticed that line. Probably no wiping that off!

Looking around a little online I have seen 2 other Bryants that both had the same print line, so maybe it's consistent throughout the print run. I also looked through the silvers I had, and the Jose Altuve, and Jose Bautista both had them as well. There is another Bautista listed on ebay with an identical line.

Bringing this up from the dead. Still not seeing many of these cards. Either hoarding or keeping low profile.

I sent mine in today on a 20 days service.

Posting here so at least we can have documented 2 of these on same thread hope OP don't mind.

Update:

This card never was graded by BGS due to their current back log. I requested the cards be sent back to me. I now see that my card also has the mark going across the top of it like OP

I popped my PSA cherry and just finalized the submission online. Going to mail it out tomorrow for their 10 day service. This will be the 3rd graded card (1 graded in BGS, as seen above and one graded by PSA) and the 2 priors have also been 9's overall.

Good call. This card belongs in a PSA slab.

People who grade make money by being good at knowing the difference between Gem and everything else (I am not one of them -- I am horrible at it). Having a card graded from an internet buy without seeing the actual card up close seems like a crazy crap shoot.

buying raw online is like having unprotected intercourse with someone you kinda know.

feels great at the time, but once the card arrives days later, you may feel a burn

What a "great" thread!

I'm actually fine with the grade it was given now, since it was a print defect and not some booger that COMC wiped on it before grading it. I should have sent it to PSA, doesn't seem worth it to crack it out at this point. Too bad about the print lines on these - a 9 will likely be the highest grade possible.

Yeah, agreed

For BGS graded ones, if someone lands 10's in the 3 subs that will help in value (for those who buy and collect based on that)
