Default Cleaning Nowhere men

I stopped by Michaels today and picked up a few professional drafting erasers as well as a few other things I thought would help me with my endeavors.

With some time and patience, I was able to carefully remove all black scuffing and printing marks from a 1st print issue of Nowhere Men, easily brining the book to 9.8(maybe 9.9).

About to work on my second and will be doing some before and after pics.

Good to know! The white covers I get from my LCS can have some black scuff marks on them and it's nice to know there is a way to get them clean again

I have to preface that I have training in document restoration from the Smithsonian so I don't know if I would advise trying this on your own.

Here are results with before and after pictures.

Very nice work. I'm glad you prefaced it by "dont' know if you...", just use caution peeps. Nice job tho! I had to clean a couple of my copies, before I submitted them too. The white's are very pesky!

If you try this using drafting(erasing) putty be sure to always rub in ONE direction, never back and forth..

What is your opinion on the dry erasing pad? I was gonna give this a shot on some old dirty books and see how it works. Any dangers I should be aware of?

I think drafting erasing putty is better for cleaning, but that is just me. I have a dry erasing pad, but I hate all the residue they produce. It adds a step of having to use a can of air to blast away all the particles lol

Can someone send me some NWM #1's to clean I missed out completely on this one. I have #4 coming but missed out on #1,2 and 3 at the shop as I am low man on the pull list totem pole I guess. Really liked the look of the cover on #3 as well

Knead eraser worked great for me. Just went to a craft store.

Very easy, took little to no time at all. Not rocket science.

Ok, so this leads to a question. If you was to use erasers on a comicbook can CGC/PGX notice and consider it a restoration book?

Nope using an eraser is not considered restoration, just like tape isn't either (except the tape can be annotated on the blue label)

It should, and it's not a trick. I spent many hours in labs at the Smithsonian learning how to do this on documents. Had no idea I would be doing this on comics in the future lol

So - theoretically my 9.6 ToT (with smudge) could become a 9.8 with it removed?

Just called my wife (she works in an engineering building) to bring me home an eraser LOL

Would pounce be the same extra pain step to you as a pad? I always found that the most gentle when doing old school drafting to remove light lines.

Here's a trick, I threw my copy of Tales of Suspense #89 into the washer with a quart of liquid tide, a dash of newt eyes and a sprinkling of fairy dust. It didn't really help the comic, even worse, it ruined it plus they won't let me back into Sears anymore.

Just so you know there are about 20 different types of erasers. The one I use is like a thick putty.
