so about 2 months ago i i opened a pack of 07 ud masterpiece from a target pack and at the time i had thought it was just a black linen jeter. (i just got back into collecting at the time so i didn't know to much). well a couple weeks later i was looking at it and it says 1 of 1 on the back so i get it in better light and the border is dark gray. so then i relize it was the urban gray linen. so i have my first and only 1 of 1 and from a retail pack at that.
well my question is this. the regular linens bv is around $40 and i have not seen any on the bay to get a true value (beckett values are off in my opinion) now i don't plan to sell it but i was thinking of grading it. is it a good idea or worth it to grade a 1 of 1 that has no book value? or should i just keep it in a screw down? let me know what you think. |

If I was you I would just get it authenticated. I believe you can send it to PSA or BGS and they will not grade it, but authenticate it and put it in a case. That way it is protected nicely and it states right on the case what the card is. I dont see any reason to grade it since it is the only one out there.

I wouldn't grade it at all.

I don't think grading it will increase or lower the value, no matter what it grades at. Maybe if it is a BGS 9.5, that might add a little value, but most of the player collectors who would be going after it want it for the fact it is a 1/1, and would still buy it even if it grades a near mint. But getting it graded would protect the card, and if you like the way it looks like in a BGS holder, then it might be worth getting graded.
Also, if this is the only card you would be sending in to get graded, then the shipping and insurance both ways will be much higher than the grading fee itself, and then is almost certainly not worth it. |

First thing you need to do is take it out of the screw down.
If you want to keep it, I think you should have it slabbed without a grade. Like they said before, grade will not increase the value of this card significantly. |

Like pskell said, get it out of the screwdown, you don't want to keep cards in those because they don't fit right and eventually it will start to compress and ruin some of the edges and corners. If you plan on keeping it I'd just get a nice heavy duty magnetic one touch holder and keep it that way. Getting it graded isn't really going to do you any good. You can just go buy a good holder and save yourself some time and money.

i think i will look into a good magnetic case. i was thinking of the slab idea but i went to both bgs and psa site and i only see grading options and i think i agree that if it won't get a good grade (i have never had a card graded so i don't know what to look for) i may not like the gade when it comes back. so i'll stop at my local shop and see what he has.
thanks all. |
