Default Judge Hunting at the Childhood Shop

Stopped by my old shop while visiting family, busted a few packs in search of some Judges

I'd say it was a good handful!

That Koufax sells for a lot on ebay, I think the first one sold for over 1.5K!

Great break. Outside of the obvious with Koufax and Senzel, that McKenzie is a great hit. He's having a great year.

Congrats OP.

You might want to do yourself a favor and get that Koufax slabbed. Archives is usually very condition sensitive and that card looks like it is in very good shape.

Interested in the Koufax if it's available. Great stuff, especially for just busting a few packs!

That shop was my childhood shop as well!

Do you by any chance remember Triple Play Sports Cards close to Eastdale mall?

Yes, haha! I usually went to Comics & Cards TP as I could ride my Bike, but do remember going there a few times. Still always great to stop by, open a few and catch up with Jason!

Did he post the hits somewhere? He took my picture with them, but I failed to ask where he was putting them

Jason is the man!!! I love going by there just to hang out. Sounds like you went on a good day... It's not Jason's fault, but wax can be sparse (it shouldn't be, I think there are plenty of big spenders in the area).

Anywho... heard about the cards that you hit from a really good friend of mine who heard it (or saw pics) from Jason. Very very cool stuff!!

I was the kid who often times was working at Triple Play. Don and Daniel were the owners and they were very kind to me. My dad got sick in the mid 90s and while most young teenagers were leaving the hobby... I had just picked it up to help take my mind off things. I met them at a card show at the Montgomery Mall and didn't really know what I was looking for. They helped me pick out a favorite player which happened to be Jeff Bagwell because my dad told me he was going to be really good LOL

I started visiting their shop when I was 14 in Millbrook and eventually worked there the summer of 1997 (the first and greatest job I ever had). The following year they moved the store to Eastdale mall to be around more foot traffic. We always had a better selection of wax and singles than Comics and Cards but they were always seemingly better on price and promotions (Pack Wars/ trade days etc.)... The shop closed down when I was a senior in the year 2000 I believe. The owner's had separate careers and their families started growing. They always would say they never made any money (in fact lost most months) but had it open because of their love for the hobby.

Anyways, when I saw your post that included "childhood shop", I knew we had a small connection!

That's awesome! I'm sure we have crossed paths before, and must say, there are definitely some great people/community in the hobby down in Montgomery/Central Alabama!
