Default Box break : 86-87 Fleer

$2K per pack.

36 packs with usually 3-4 MJs per box. 1 in 9 or 1 in 12 shot of hitting it big.

$2K a pack?

You could buy a PSA 8 Jordan for that and still have change.

For the price of just over 1 1/2 packs, a recent pickup.

This is likely best case scenario. Too much of a gamble!

Wow......the ONLY guy I'm concernec with here......is the dude who originally sold the sealed case, and the 7 boxes. I hope he was paid heavenly. He was the one with the foresight to not open the remaining boxes, and to keep the 87/88 case sealed for 30 years.

I understand they already sold the sealed case.....so there's tons of profit being made.....

These boxes are easily found online now and the back story is attached to them.

There is a 86-87 Fleer box BBCE wrapped at the National Sportscard Convention that has a pack with a MJ showing.

Has anyone seen that?

I don't collect hoops cards but if I had money to burn I would buy it.

$79K I think.

So basically if you are able to get 3 Jordan psa 10s it still wouldn't pay for the box In saying that I really hope someone records the box break

One went at auction a few months ago for like $36k, definitely less than $40k from one of the major auction houses.

I think these packs are silly if you can get the hit you want for less. Almost never are you pulling 10s from a pack of this era. 8s and 9s aren't worth the tag.

I think it's silly but there's probably a market for people who want to "pull" the card themselves. The sad thing is, they won't even really get to do that.

It sold, had a sign on it when I saw it earlier today.

I think it was accompanied by a letter from BBCE and also described as a "36 pack box" on the wrapper, not a full box. I wrote this elsewhere too, but in theory, someone with the collation sequence could have sniped the Jordan RC packs out, then replaced them with non Jordan packs, but with the appropriate stickers showing on the back to show the appearance of even distribution across 36 packs. Its possible that that box has ZERO #57's

How much would it cost to send all the cards pulled to get graded?

If anything, this type of break and this type of thread show the two extremes of the hobby. On one side lies the irrational gamblers who spend obscene amounts of money to experience their "rush". To these individuals, breaking loose packs is an addiction. At the other end of the spectrum there are rational investors who purchase known cards at known grades. Rational investors might not get the endorphin and epinephrine rush gamblers get, but they also don't experience the extreme lows of collecting and wasted money.

I think most "collectors" sit in the middle of these two extremes.

Phil Ivey said the next best thing to winning big is losing big. He said he likes to lose so much that his stomach hurts. Maybe that applies somewhat to these card gamblers.

Fortunately for Phil Ivey, he won big more times then he lost big. Breaking sports cards do not give you the same odds. If Phil Ivey used that same methodology in this hobby, then he would be Nil Ivey very quickly.

That is probably true. A person wouldn't constantly gamble if they didn't have some "good" chemical reaction.
