Default What is the rarest Michael Jordan refractor?

Just curious if anyone knows this one off the top of their head. I could be wrong, but I don't believe superfractors were made till after he retired. Right?

The 97-98 finest embossed gold is probably his best refractor. Others are certainly lower printed though. Which is the rarest?

I believe that's the rarest chrome, but 02 finest has a gold refractor /25 - which I think is the answer. Can anyone confirm that he doesn't have any superfractors?

Also, Jordan only has refractors from his playing days, correct? Topps products were never allowed to produce his stuff in non playing years.

First time i saw this card.. im not sure if there is a refractor version of this #23 jersey of the 94/95 finest.. his official jersey on this was the #45 as his comeback year... if there is a refractor version of this card then id say its pretty rare...

Card is not mine.. saw on the MJ trading page...

These are all mostly correct except Jordan's refractors on 93-94 and 98-99.

At one time it would have been the bordered mystery refractor from 1995-96.... but with all those popping up it seems like its definitely the embossed diecut with only 74 made for the 93-99 date range.

the rarest of the unnumbered may be his 1998 Topps Chrome Preview Refractor.

They put these in boxes of 98 Topps. I've opened a bunch of these boxes and never pulled a refractor of anyone.

I'd say this one as well. If there are more than 25 of them in existence I'd be shocked. Lots of people have no clue about those Preview Refractors. They are REALLY hard to find.

I think the issue w these is the type of product they came out of - opened by all classes of collectors. Hundreds of thousands of boxes of this stuff. But they get pulled and buried and forgotten.

I have a local buddy who put together the set - which is a weird "set", since they are identical to the other chrome refractors. Almost just out of packs that were opened locally.

Kind of the same thing as some of the rare collectors choice stuff. Some of it, even numbered to 100 is next to impossible to find - truly rarer than a lower numbered card? No. More difficult to find? Yeah. Sometimes.

I do think this is a good mention, but I don't think it's near the /25 realm. That's the fun with non numbered stuff though... total speculation.

I could be wrong, but I think they were only in the jumbo hobby packs or the regular hobby packs.

They were one in 4 box inserts with only 10 in the set. TONS more than 25 exist.

For reference on the Jordan 1998 Topps Chrome Preview Refractor, the last one sold on ebay went for $850.

It's a sweet card and undervalued for sure. Far rarer than people know. I know the set well. If I remember correctly, I found an Austin croshere one time but maybe you already had it.

It would be interesting to see if we could back into its print run. I haven't thought about it before but would totally guesstimate at around 200-225. Total guess.

Only Pacers player in the preview set was Chris Mullin, which I'm still searching for. I've seen a total of 2 of them since I decided to do the Pacers team refractor set a couple years ago. The Mullin isn't technically part of the 98 Chrome set, but I treat it as such.

That's right. I had the croshere and was hoping it was part of the topps preview and new you were doing pacers stuff.

Now I remember.

It would be interesting to know how many there are. If I remember, the regular chromes weren't too tough to get out of the regular topps packs, but refractors were 1: a big number.
