Default Why is Derek Jeter worth so much?

Sorry I'm kinda new to following baseball and trying to figure out why his SP rookies in PSA 10 sell for 10K and his autos are still so valuable....

Looking through his stats for the first time today, during the bulk of his career, he averaged between .300-.325 and hit between 10-20 homers with 70-80 RBI and 20 stolen bases or so...I mean pretty good but not out of this world...he played during a period when some guys put up crazy numbers that dominated his...

Was it his charisma/personality? That he played 20 years with the same team? Just trying to figure out what it was that made Jeter so special and his card prices continue to have relevance after his retirement?

Same reason why Aaron Judge will be worth so much

Only because he was a Yankee. Definetly an overrated player.

Didi Gregerious sells crap even hot and better numbers than Jeter...

Jeter is like Cal Ripken but with rings.

How well does Giambi, Teixeira, Soriano, Arod, Sheffield sell???

These guys put up numbers that crush Mike Trout and no one cares.
Yankees mean nothing...

No one will care about Judge in the future.

200 hits per season over 5 times, look up some other greats and you would be surprised how many didn't even do it once.

You never fail to disappoint. Gergorious finally becomes not a liability at the plate within the past year, and now he puts up better numbers than Jeter?

If you think being a Yankee means nothing in this hobby, you are insanely clueless. I realize I should know who I'm talking to, but this is more out there than usual.

Cause Jeter had the "it" factor. Some players have it. Some dont.

Most of those guys are linked to steriods.

Topps is betting against you.

Jeter is 88 in WAR all-time. Guys like Ripken were better players, but sell for less. Jeter only sells high because of fan base.

I mean... he is 6th all time on the MLB hits list...that's like out of everyone who has ever played the game. Mix in the fact that he was good for 20 years with a number of big October moments and 5 WS rings for the games most famous team and there's your answer.

You lead (not just being a role player) your team to 5 championships and your values go up like crazy --> look at Brady, Kobe, Jordan. Wearing the pinstripes also adds quite a bit of value as mentioned by many.

His 1993 SP PSA 10 sells for so much because only 21 out of 13,000+ have come back Gem Mint, only 500 PSA 9s, very condition sensitive surface on those foil cards.

And a Jeter collector can correct me, but his autos probably sell for so much still because he's been a less frequent signer than most, he hasn't had autos in every Topps release the last 3-4 years like so many other retired/HOFers.

the OP is a huge Judge investor, so it shocks me to read this thread.

k13 is a well known angry man, but he usually rants about hockey

as for Jeter, how many players in the modern era:

drafted by one team
play for that team their entire career
win Championship(s)

?

Tom Brady, Tim Duncan come to mind. not many others.

then add in that Jeter did that on the biggest stage in the world.

Also none of those guys were homegrown, Jeter was a key member of the Yankees resurgence in the mid 90s. Statistically overrated...yes but being a lifelong Yank and captain of their most recent dynasty is the reason he commands the prices that he does.

Was Teixiera, and Soriano?
Interesting..

Everyone else pretty much echoed my own thoughts.

20 yr career with more than above average statistics that some existing HoFers dont have. He was a consistent performer, and has what, 5 WS rings? He was always a model citizen, and mostly stayed out of the papers/headlines for the wrong reasons, and he played 20 years for the most storied and arguably the most popular team in MLB which has a massive fan base.

Im a Red Sox fan, and I admire Jeter. He was a face of the league, and he played for pretty much half of my life, as I think i was 18 in 1993. Would have loved to have had him in a Sox uniform.

I have a total of 2 Judge cards left. I always hear about Jeter when all the hobby big dogs (Jordan, Lebron, Brady, Jeter) are mentioned so I went to go look at his stats and found them to be underwhelming compared to his hobby dominance. Looking at the answers so far, it seems it's the 5 World Series rings and staying with the same team for his entire career.

It helps to not be traded to the Yankees rather be a touted prospect and play up to the Yankees
