Hi guys. I stopped by the LCS today and bought various boxes of Football and Basketball. Here's the summary (hits only):
So the place didn't have any new new product, so I decided to start cheap, with a box of Panini's entry level stuff. 12-13 Panini BK (1 box) - RC Auto: Kendall Marshall, Darius Morris Redemption POY: LeBron James Kobe Anthology Jersey (of 24): 50 The autos were poor, but got the case hit insert in the LeBron and a rare Kobe jersey from the Anthology packs. Moving right along... 12 Playoff Contenders FB (1 box) - Playoff Ticket (of 99): Darius Heyward-Bey RC Ticket Auto: Trumaine Johnson, Rishard Matthews, Bobby Rainey, Russell Wilson Redemption RC Ticket Variation: Nick Foles Variation I pulled the Foles in the first pack, so I assumed the box was dead. Was a nice surprise to pull the Wilson, but a question for you all: Is the "Variation" the on-card while the regular rookie ticket is sticker? 12-13 Panini Elite BK (1 box) - RC (of 599): Jeff Taylor, Tristan Thompson Aspirations Die-Cut (of 75): Al Jefferson Back to the Future Jersey: Antawn Jamison Prime Numbers Gold (of 24): Elvin Hayes Rookie Inscriptions Auto: Kenneth Faried. Donatas Motiejunas, Jan Vesely The Elite box was just so-so. Faried is a nice player, but the card sells for only $15 or so. Donatae is OK, but Vesely is horrible. 12-13 Panini Absolute Memorabilia BK (1 box) - RC Auto (of 399): Quincy Acy, Malcolm Lee, Darius Morris, Dion Waiters Redemption Gold Spectrum (of 25): Daniel Gibson Pulled another all rookie box with a Kyrie redemption, but Dion is no Kyrie. Pretty disappointing, as the other 3 rookies are of the less than $5 ilk. 12 Panini Prime Signatures FB (5 box case) - Box 1: RPS Jumbo Patch (of 25): A.J. Jenkins Box 2: RPS: Kendall Wright Redemption Box 3: RC Auto (of 99): Morris Claiborne Box 4: RC Auto (of 199): Travis Benjamin Box 5: Auto (of 15): John Elway Really good sealed mini-case of this product. I was looking for an on-card RC auto of someone I like, but I feel the Jenkins and Wrights are case hits. The Claiborne was decent and the Elway seems the hit of the day. I went to a second card shop and bought the following 3 packs: 12-13 Panini Absolute BK (2 packs) - Pack 1: RC Auto (of 399): DeAndre Liggins Pack 2: Marks of Fame Auto (of 1000): Bill Walton 12 Fleer Retro FB (1 pack) - Pack 1: PMG Red (of 100): George Rogers The Absolute was pretty bad as the Walton is a sell (big sticker). Meanwhile, not a fan of Rogers, and not sure how the common PMG's sell for. Altogether I spent about $900. It was fun, and although I think I did above average, I think I will be able to recoup only $500 or thereabouts. Will put these cards up on eBay in the next 2 months or so. Nothing is for trade or sale right now. Thanks for the look.

RE: Contenders, the variation is the card that doesn't have lettering on the back above and below the team logo. On Card auto is not a variation indicator as far as I can tell.
