Default I'm gonna go ahead and say it....Allen & Ginter is a terrible product

It's $100 per box and 2-3 weeks after release, it is nearly worthless. The chances of breaking even on a case are VERY VERY slim...especially this year. The SP's....if you can call them that....are worth no more than the base cards. I thought Topps was starting to finally get it with the awesome SP's that they put in Heritage and Archives, but no..."we'll slap some more sports writer t-shirt cards in Ginter and hope our customers are cool when they get 3 tshirt cards in a box and no autos." Good job Topps. You suckered in a bunch of people again. (You got me for the last time) I know the set builders will probably come in and try to defend it, but before you do so, take a look at your sets from past years in your closets that are now more valuable as toilet paper/fire wood than on the secondary sports card market. Ok....that's my opinion on Ginter....go ahead and discuss.

I'll second that. Couldn't stand it or see the appeal since it's first release.

And I should clarify....I think it has it's merits as a product. The framed mini's and rip cards are extremely cool cards. The variations are neat, but it has gotten so scatterbrained (for lack of a better word). Topps needs to really reel this product back in next year.....more baseball....less non-sports. And for God's sake at $100, include an auto in each box....either that or lower the damn price.

You can collect money, or you can collect baseball cards.

I liked 2010 Ginter, but that was only because I wanted Buster Posey Rcs....aside from then, it has always been a waste of money in terms of box buying for me. However, I don't dislike the concept of the set itself in general, though could use more interesting subjects.
This year to me seems like there was an extra dose of new to the hobby people box and case breaking it for some reason.

I collect ginter for the non sports and oddball stuff (except for the couple years they had guys I collect). Resell value is there but usually lasts longer it seems then it has with this release. I opened 8 boxes. I opened them for the fun and possible hits, not to make any money back on them. I made a couple hundred and that was just a bonus. I told myself next year I'll just use the money to buy the singles I want and get ahead but I know I'm lying to myself. I think it's just one of those products you love or hate. It's definitely not something you're going to make money on unless your first on the market or hit something everybody wants.

Ginter need not appeal to breakers of traditional products because it has a vast audience... and dissers typically haven't hit huge bizarro treasures. Easy to get hooked once you do, the experience is unlike anything else.

Most breakers are not fixated on returns, either. For that there's Bowman Chrome.

Still haven't ripped a 2015 box yet but looking forward to it. I don't care if I lose on it, and strangely enough Ginter has been my most profitable product rip to date.

A case would be a stretch for me, though.

I think bowman and ginter gurgle donkey balls.

The final straws for me were:

1.) bowman going ape-crap with parallels. 18 different paper, 14 different chrome... Bubbles, wave, static...

2.) buying 10 copies of previous years' worthless a+g autos/base, and then stamping 1/10 on it to make the poor sap who pulled the Drew Stubbs mini framed auto /10 all warm and fuzzy inside. These aren't buybacks from 30 years ago, or even iconic cards. They are the same exact junk cards that lose money for sellers on comc or get stuck in $1-2 per auto threads in b/s/t...

They are really good at exploiting hobby trends and running good things into the ground

this year's ginter is absolute unadulterated crap, and thats without mentioning the fact that it isn't even actually the "10th anniversary."

It is the 10th anniversary of Topps making the brand.

I think they either need more or less oddball stuff. Right now it's mostly a baseball product with just enough of the non-sport stuff.

The people who don't want A&G because of the non-baseball stuff are going to eject on this product whether there's a little or a lot of the non-sport stuff. So put back in the retired players. Add in as many different sports as possible. Add as many non-sport cards as possible. Do SP. Do SSP. Go nuts. Looking at the checklist this year, it seems like they simply try hard enough.

I'd be interested in an all-baseball product in this design, and if it were completely oddball, I'd also be interested. In this mutated form, though.....nah.

I love ginter.. Will always collect it...

It's all sports cards... It's brutal...

Average ROI on any product is probably 30-40%

By far not just ginter....

I love ginter. Always have, since I first started collecting it in 2008.

But this year sucks.

The only new thing this year are the buybacks, which as many have mentioned are the most worthless 'inserts' I've ever seen. You take a 10c common and stick a /10 stamp on it and now it's worth something? Huh?

Plus this year's auto/relic checklist is pretty weak.

So no new stuff + worthless inserts + bad checklist + $100/box = no buy for me for the first time in 7 years.

Get rid of the Full Size Relics.

The mini framed are what makes A&G cool.

It sounds like your main gripe is profitability. This product truly epitomizes the idea that you have to "catch and release" within a week of its debut to really profit. I love this product, don't get me wrong. I just didn't really get the appeal of a buyback card from a card released LAST YEAR!!! I would like a David Cross auto, but that's about it. I may get some retail. Who knows....
