Can anyone tell me how they grade? There is nothing over 7.5 on the bottom and the top has 2 over 9.

These is a slight indent on the top card on the front. Looks like something heavy was set on it but No crease!

I just dont understand how 9.5 ,9, 6.5 ,3 is the same as 7.5 ,7, 6, 3
Overall Grade is based on the lowest sub-grade.
Most of the time it's only .5 above the lowest grade, but would never be more than 1 full above.
So if you have one sub grade at 3 then the most you could hope for was a 4 overall.

Max of 1 grade over the lowest number. Thats why you buy the card not the holder.

I honestly didnt know that. Definitely makes sense now. Just looking at the huge disparity between the 2 as far as visual appeal confuses me

yes, the "1 point thing" get s alot of folks
having said that, the one that is not yours certainly does not demonstrate "strong" subs in the other 3 categories, so i could see that in a 3.5

I see your point... As others have said it is max 1 pt/grade above lowest. Does seem a little crazy though... Kinda funny I also have a BGS-4. (8.5 x3 and a 3 surface- Subs) equals a 4...

I get the formula for grading..........but that top card having the same grade as the bottom is ridiculous.....perhaps they need to reevaluate their formula.
Also, on a side note.........I've been seeing a LOT of PSA 10's from this set with the upper left totally butchered. Take a look at this

This is a good example of why I don't like graded cards

Yeah that rule really skews the grades on cards with just 1 really bad sub. I don't know why they don't just use the average or weighted average of each sub-component.

That's what I assumed they did that's why I was asking

This is just a byproduct of knowing the sub-grades. If these were PSA graded, with just one overall grade, and you knew their "fatal" flaws (the surfaces), you wouldn't have the same knee jerk reaction.

Yeah you could have 10 centering, 10 edges, 10 corners and a 2 surface and the overall would be a 3 because the overall grade can only be 1 over the lowest subgrade.

Yes, that top example is a gorgeous "BGS 4" if there ever was.
