I’ll make a bold statement and stand behind it. If Barkley plays to get the rushing record the Giants will stack 8 guys on the line to make sure he doesn’t break the record against them. They may lose 50-0 but Barkley will get 37 yards in the first half.

Possibly. The problem is that if you play Barkley you have to play your OL starters (can't put him behind a bunch of backups), seems like too much risk for a personal record. Barkley seems easy going and I could see him being fine with not playing. He got his 2,000 yards.

If Barkley hadn't gone over 2000 yards this past week, he plays this week, gets it and goes out...

If he plays this week, he could lose yardage and go under 2k (doubtful), he could get hurt and/or he could break Dickerson's record...

But then he's gotta deal with all the people saying he needed more games than Dickerson and there should be an *** next to it and blah blah blah...

Not worth it in my eyes, sit out and go for the Super Bowl...

Then you got Josh Allen who's gonna start a meaningless game on Sunday just so he can keep his "start streak" alive and then go sit on the bench...

Someone mentioned that he sat the 4Q earlier this year instead of attempting to break the game record at Metlife. Doesn't seem like he's a records guy, but a team guy.

He sat the 4th at MetLife Week 7 when he was 14 yards from breaking his then single game rushing record, telling the coaches to play the younger RBs as they were up 28-3. They asked him if he was sure - didn't he want to set his single-game high against his former team, and he said nah.

The Eagles also called a timeout with approximately 11:00 left in the 4th against the Cowboys this past week to pull him out and let the crowd give him an ovation for hitting 2k yards.

He also hasn't ever complained once that Hurts has like 10 TDs from the 1 yard line this year, that would usually be the RBs.

Actions speak louder than words, and his actions are those of a humble, likeable guy who puts the team first and personal accolades second. I think he's content and will likely rest.

I can foresee the first-team offense playing one, maybe two series' in the game because Jalen has been out for two weeks, just to get in sync for the playoffs, so while that may involve a few runs, it'll mostly be passes I'd imagine, then it'll be turned over to Pickett or McKee and the second units.

That's my guess - I know nothing more than anyone else here. Just my guess.

Playoff Scenarios (That I'm Aware Of):

NFC
1. If DET wins or ties, they get NFC 1st seed, MIN gets NFC 5th seed.
2. If MIN wins, they get NFC 1st seed, DET gets NFC 5th seed.
3. Atlanta clinches NFC South division title with:
ATL win + TB loss
4. Tampa Bay clinches NFC South division title with:
TB win or tie
ATL loss or tie
5. Commanders are current NFC 6th seed, Packers NFC 7th seed. Both are 11-5, but Commanders win tiebreaker with a higher win % against conference opponents. Commanders and Packers can swap seeds 6/7 with:
Packers win v. Bears + Commanders loss or tie @ Cowboys

6th seed plays @ LA Rams, 7th seed plays @ PHI Eagles.

AFC
1. Baltimore clinches AFC North and AFC 3rd seed with:
BAL win or tie
PIT loss or tie
2. Pittsburgh clinches AFC North and AFC 3rd seed with:
PIT win + BAL loss
3. Cincinnati clinches a playoff berth with:
CIN win + DEN loss + MIA loss or tie
4. Denver clinches a playoff berth with:
DEN win or tie
MIA loss or tie + CIN loss or tie
5. Miami clinches a playoff berth with:
MIA win + DEN loss

Don't want to jinx the Bucs but when they're hot they can beat anyone. I believe they will be the NFC South Champions, and let me tell you, Lions and Vikings fans might not want to admit it, but neither of those teams want to go play a road game in Tampa Bay to start the playoffs. The Bucs are too unpredictable.

Week 15 - Put up 506 yards of offense and beat the Chargers 40-17, each team turning the ball over twice.
Week 16 - Put up 410 yards of offense on the Cowboys but lose 26-24, turning it over twice while Dallas had no turnovers.
Week 17 - Put up 551 yards of offense and beat the Panthers 48-14, in a turnover-free game from both sides.

It should also be noted they defeated Philadelphia, Washington, Detroit on the road, and almost defeated Kansas City on the road in overtime.

The real thing we need is a fantasy tracker for who is and is not playing, plus a list of guys who could put up big points while everyone rests… this must exist somewhere for us prop bettors

Based on that scenario post I had above, teams that have incentives to win:

DET
MIN
BAL
PIT
DEN
CIN
MIA
TB
ATL

If they care about their first round opponent, then add:

WASH
GB

Guessing both GB and WASH would rather go play indoors v. LA where their fans can take over half the stadium than to go to Philadelphia, but I could be wrong.

Barkley sitting out vs. Giants.

Resting instead of attempting to break the record against his former team, the Giants, who are 31st in the league against the run.

Said he's psyched for the playoffs - winning the NFC East was his first NFL "hat and shirt" moment, and he looks forward to more.

Very likeable athelete IMO. Good role model for kids coming up.

Ha! Funny you should mention it. Football doesn't do asterisks! There as a big discussion in one of the threads on here....

Football used to be 14 games. Jim Brown set the single season rush record in ... '63??

OJ then beat that record in '74?? Think he was the first guy to rush over 2,000 yards, though he had many more carries than Jim Brown.

Then in '84 or '85 Dickerson beat OJ's record, but by then the NFL had moved to 16 games. Only reason Dickerson holds it - he didn't have the most rushing yards ever through 14 games. It was weeks 15 and 16, which had been added, that took him to just over 2,100 yards.

So the rushing record will likely be broken at some point with the 17 game season. Some were debating the real test would be to take a minimum # of carries (say 250) then divide yards gains for the season by # of attempts.

The leader in that case would be Jim Brown. Pretty sure he averaged 6.5 yards per carry in his 1963 season.

I'll try to link the discussion later, but it was interesting. Lots of people saying football has never asterisked any records, even when they went from 14 to 16 games, so why would they when they went from 16 to 17. Obviously adding two games has a bigger impact on records than adding one.

In 1987, Bo Jackson had Avg. 6.8 yds/carry. Correct me if wrong, but I think he played baseball until November when he finally made the switch to football. Yeah, yeah, I know, not enough carries to officially qualify. But what is the best athlete on earth supposed to do - he just couldn't do both sports at the same time.

Here's a list of player incentives my buddy does every year for you prop bet degens:

Incentives
-Mike Evans
• 5 catches
• 85 yards
If he hits these - he unlocks a massive $3 million bonus…

-Geno Smith needs 186 pass yards to cash in a $2 million bonus.
Geno had 363 yards against LA in Week 9.
He also earns $2 million if Seattle wins & gets to 10 wins

-Courtland Sutton needs 82 receiving yards to earn 500k.
He’s hit this number in 4 games this season.
Now Sutton faces the Chiefs - who are resting ‘key starters’...

-Tony Pollard has a lot on the line in Week 18:
• 83 rushing yards for 250k
• 2 touchdowns to cash in another 250k

-JK Dobbins needs 58 rush yards to cash in a $150k bonus.
He’s hit this number in 5 games this season.
Dobbins will face the Raiders - who rank 28th in tackling.
He totaled 135 rush yards Week 1 against them…

Saquon Barkley needs 101 yards to set the rushing record.
He'll face the Giants - who allow the 2nd most rushing yards.
Saquon posted 176 yards against New York in Week 7.
But the question is – will Philly let him play in a meaningless game?...

-Malik Nabers needs 2 catches to break the rookie WR record.
And he’s 4 catches behind Brock Bowers for the overall rookie reception record.
Nabers is averaging 7.5 catches per game.
He'll face the Eagles - who could be resting players this week...

-Zach Ertz is playing for A LOT this weekend:
• 2 TDs for 250k
• 9 catches to cash in $250k
• 90 yards for another $250k
He faces the Cowboys – who allow the 3rd most receiving production this season…

Baker Mayfield needs to finish Top 10 in yards per attempt to earn $500k.
Baker currently ranks 7th entering Week 18.
He’ll face the Saints 25th ranked secondary this week.
Baker threw for 325 yards against New Orleans in Week 6…

-Deandre Hopkins needs just 1 TD to earn $500k.
He faces the Broncos - who allowed 3 passing TDs last week.

Yes, choosing to be a division champ, 3 seed, and have a home game in first round. As far as assuming the Browns would lose anyway, I assumed that about Giants last week. And yet here we are 14-3 at the half against the Ravens starters. What would the score be if the Ravens had backups in? I think Ravens made the right decision. You put your best team out there and take the division before Steelers even have a chance to take the field.

At worst...it's 7-3..

Zappe and DTR aren't doing anything, even against backups

They already had Bateman go down with a potential injury, luckily he returned

But Zay is now hurt, time frame TBA

I'd pull the starters now at half

I'm not a fan of this theory. Big players could have gotten hurt in weeks 1-17. Big players could get hurt in 1st round next week. They've made it this far. I think it borders on superstition when people circle week 18 as the magical week of season ending injuries. Hindsight bias aside, of course.

The Ravens were still running Henry up 28-10 with 3 minutes left in the 4th, when he broke off a 43 yard run to make it 35-10.. In fact, both his TDs came with less than 7 minutes left in the 4th.

Surprised we have not see more records fall yet with the 17th game and how many more will start falling when at some point a 18th game is added.

I think that Tomlin is in the upper echelon of coaches in the league. Steelers need to commit to more of a rebuild. Tomlin is good enough to take mediocre teams and get them to 10 wins. If Tomlin doesn't want a rebuild, than you move on. The other simple explanation is just the Steelers have had bad QB play. The league is dependent on having a really good QB. They have been bottom third for the past six years. Big Ben's last few years were pretty bad.

Tomlin is not a great coach. He is good with one lines and seems to be players coach but as far as x & o he avg at best. When is last time anyone has said about Tomlin after a game against a good team that he out coached them. They dont seem to make adjustments in games or even game to game with lot of same plays over and over. He has produced no coaching tree which is almost impossible given 18 years as head coach. Steelers need to move on and blow up this team as i mentioned 1 year ago as they are stuck in .500 land with no hopes of finding young franchise qb and def is getting old and overpaid. Just as i said last year they need to look at trading any and all assets of value before they are worthless as they are no where close to contending as it has shown the past month against top tier teams.

Browns answer to a terrible season...

Fire OC Ken Dorsey after 1 year...*facepalm*

It has nothing to do specifically with Dorsey. It’s the system

Dorsey was brought in to fix Watson. That’s why Stefanski let him call plays. It didn’t work

If Stefanski wants to go back to the system that made the playoffs? You have to fire Dorsey

Not because Dorsey specifically sucks but because he was brought in for a singular purpose

And if Watson isn’t your starter? The philosophy is different

Yeah that was clearly a catch. Worth a second look but Kraft had it the whole way.

It's weird, this whole season I had CJ Stroud as my starting fantasy QB and Caleb on the bench(our season is over we don't play the last week)...

Stroud 3677 yards, 19 TD, 12 INT 233 rushing yards

Williams 3393 yards, 19 TD's, 6 INT 479 rushing yards

I never realized Caleb had a better year pretty much.

PS, I didn't win any money obviously..Stroud was such a bust for my team. Luckily scooped up Darnold to save the season.

Feel bad for Watson. He gets hurt all the time and now if that is an ACL he isn't done for this year but next year as well. That could be his final play for the Packers.

Jacobs flew under the radar but he's been a super impactful add for the Packers. Saquon and Henry get all the press but Green Bay team has a nasty, bully edge on offense now thanks to Jacobs. Another great Raider add for them.

I do not like the Bears screen pass. I've watched since the days of Curtis Conway, Michael Timpson, and Bobby Engram and all through the decades to now. It so very rarely works and yet they run it all the time. Different coaches, coordinators, players, same results.

NFL: Tampa, just take care of the Panthers at home and you get the #4 seed to host a playoff game.

Bucs: No problem! Who will we host?

NFL: Lions or Vikings.

Bucs: Nah, let's just go to the Draft.

This is as blatant of a tank job as I have ever seen in the NFL as far as how they are managing the game.

It's honestly embarrassing. Should just forfeit and not even put guys out there.

Malik Willis is proof the Packers don't need a $60 million dollar QB, any $10 million game manager type is good enough with their run game, that would let them spend the extra $50 million on pass rushers and a shut down corner. Sorry Jordan Love fans.
