Pretty badass that the Lions voted no on the ban, being a favorite in the NFC and playing the Eagles head-to-head this year.

My cousin married into a Lions household and lives in Detroit now. Her husband, a lifelong Lions fan, wants to come to the Lions / Eagles game in Philadelphia this year.

I told him probably best he didn't wear a Lions jersey to the game, but he said he's worn Lions gear at all the NFC North Division opponents' stadiums and never had any problems but for verbal sparring. But the Lions / Eagles is a 8:20pm start. The later the start, the rowdier the crowd, generally. I still have time to talk him out of it...

My only experience with Iggles football at Lincoln Financial was a preseason game back in '22 (I think) in August - rode the BSL down and a guy was pounding not a six-pack, but a TWELVE PACK. So yes, a very drunk crowd - but I think you should sit with your cousin's husband, let him wear the Lions jersey, and protect him from the mob!

Will we see any more post June 1st cuts tomorrow? CBA allows teams to make 2 cuts with a post June 1st designation and release them early in the off-season. Don't know if any teams used both there 2 June 1st cuts and will release more after June 1st.

Rodgers is back!

Can't really be a surprise to anyone. As a Steeler fan, I was hoping we just rode with what we got. You don't go out and sign a DK Metcalf and not assume to get a better QB. There defense is setup to win this year and maybe next as well, so I get it from that point of view. I have said, that they will be all in this year. They have outs on all of their big contracts except DK, which has an out after next year. I can see Tomlin retiring, they trade/cut the big assets, Rodgers retires, and Steelers do a full reset.

I'm very curious how this year unfolds.

I keep thinking the same thing over and over and I just don't expect much from Rodgers.

I get signing him to a one-year deal though. Might as well roll the dice. I mean Mason Rudolph isn't a sure fire starter.

That is just silly to say. They start Will Howard they are a 3-4 win team. Rodgers gives them a shot at being a playoff team.

Yeah, he'll be fine there. He just has to be a slightly above average starting QB, which is a safe bet given what's around him.

I think Howard can be successful. I would try and avoid playing him his RC year though. I can see him getting a chance next season if there aren't any setbacks though.

Doesn't sound like James Cook will be participating in Buffalo's Mandatory Training Sessions this week.

Holding out for that $15 million/year deal...

Talk radio this morning was discussing if Brandon Beane is feeling extra pressure to get this done before Hard Knocks shows up, so he doesn't end up looking like the Giants with Saquon...

while a perfectly fine RB, I don't think anyone is realistically thinking Cook is in the same realm as Saquon. I can't imagine Beane paying this guy $15M/yr

He's had one good year. A lot of guys would do well with that offense.

I don't think they're putting him in top RB money any sooner than they need to when they have no $$ for WRs.

11 of 16 Cooks rushing TDs were 7 yards or less last year. Look at Jammal Williams few years back when he had a ton of short yardage TDs for the Lions did not see it go to his head thinking he was a top RB in the NFL and ask for stupid money.

Bengals having trouble signing their first round pick. Trey unhappy still. Go Bengals!

They are going 100% Madden Franchise mode....

Spend $95MM (increasing every year) and already $14MM in void years on QB an 2 WRs, while allocating practically nothing to their defense.

Should make for some great counting stats, but there's a reason they haven't made the playoffs the last 2 years.

I think its part algorithm, part AI, part click-bait deal with MSN. When I launch Edge each day, I get tons of stories like this on the front page. Being from Cleveland, all mine are Shedeur Sanders articles and all have compelling titles like "Sanders to be cut by training camp" and then the article has some guy saying that the Browns won't carry 4 QBs into the season and basically says one will be cut (duh) but the title makes you think otherwise.

See the state of Missouri has passed that they are willing to fund 50% of renovating or building new stadiums for the Chiefs and Royals. Chiefs plan is to renovate their stadium at a cost of $1.15 billion dollars and the Royals plan is to build a new stadium at a cost of $2 billion dollar. No word yet from either team if they will plan to accept this deal or seek a better deal from the state of Kansas.

Shedeur Sanders speeding 101mph. Awesome move for a guy on Cleveland roster bubble with many other teams obviously little/no interest in him in draft.

Maybe he's trying some reverse psychology BS to get Cleveland to cut him so he can go somewhere else, but where would he go?

Slygay needs to post a pic if he's gonna judge what others look like. Seems like the ugliest and fattest dudes deflect that onto judgement of women's looks most of the time. Like they can be 320lbs and have pot holes, but a woman better be 115lb and smooth skin.

But don't you worry, like so many posts, he will ignore this and bring up a different subject to try and move the conversation away from his ignorance and lack of IQ.

Another knucklehead like Jameis Winston. Won't be long until he's worn out his welcome and is just an afterthought. Inappropriate behavior. Shedeur Sanders speeding 101mph. Awesome move for a guy on Cleveland roster bubble with many other teams obviously little/no interest in him in draft.

Sure, sounds like nothing to Jordan Addison 140mph or Rashee Rice 120mph...
...but Sanders was driving a big Dodge pickup truck, not an exotic.

meh not a big deal every day people get pulled over for speeding. That's all he did he pays the traffic ticket and month from now no one even remembers.

He's more likely to do something 10 times as dumb during his rookie season with how big that family ego is

Word around Vikings is they considered cutting or trading Jordan Addison (felony speeding rook year, DIU last offseason), but his on-field play is pretty darn strong. Sanders hasn't done squat yet.

And yes, I agree Sanders will do something much dumber.

First of your takes I agree with. CJ will likely retire. Neck injuries are nothing to f with at this point in his career, but you never know these guys’ financial situation or love for the game. ...Mosely retirement official this week.
He might have talked to a few teams after cut by NYJ, but I don't think he or any team wants to make/pay vet minimum for a risk of a serious injury.

He will be Ravens ring of honor for sure... I think almost zero chance at HOF, but a very good player and career nonetheless.

George Kittle had a WILD interaction with a prisoner when he visited San Quentin prison. During his rookie year all the 49ers rookies were sent for a visit there.

Five years ago, Jalen Ramsey, big name, been in a lot of big games. He's going to really help the season tickets early in the year. But we get in the dog days in November and December, he's lucky to have a tackle count his age.

Steelers and Dolphins trade:

Jalen Ramsey (CB)
Jonnu Smith (TE)

for

Minkah Fitzpatrick

It's been really drama free after the purge, and I like the youth movement.

What I think is ...

The Steelers REALLY wanted Smith and the Dolphins REALLY wanted Ramsey's contract gone.

Fitzpatrick was the compromise. Steelers still have DeShone Elliott and Juan Thornhill at Safety

I think the Steelers think they can get more out of Ramsey than the Dolphins did. Sometimes good coaching - which I hate to admit the Steelers have - can indeed make a player step up in a new, better situation.

We'll definitely see. Notables for the Steelers:

IN: Rodgers (QB), Rudolph (QB), Ramsey (CB), Jonnu (TE), D.K. (WR), Slay (CB), Thornhill (S), Parham (TE), Gainwell (RB). No offensive line help

OUT: Fields, Russ, Minkah, Pickens, Najee (:(), Daniels (G), Brown (OT)

What a fascinating offseason for the Steelers! They could be formidable

49ers have a really weak schedule this year... The Rams are probably the toughest team they play.

No Chiefs, Eagles, Bills, Ravens, Commanders, Lions, Packers, Vikings, Chargers, Broncos, or Steelers.

They should win enough games to be a playoff team

I still feel like everything the Steelers are doing is just for a run this year. The only one that doesn't fit is DK's contract. Jalen will get cut after this year and save 50 million on what would be left of his contract. Probably why TJ is looking to get out. Steelers are due for a full reset after this year.

Kevin Kietzman, the host of "Uncanceled" on KCMO Talk Radio and the "Kevin Kietzman Has Issues" podcast, suggested that Mahomes gained weight over the offseason and demanded the quarterback "stop the fast food."

"Vacation photos are popping up of Patrick Mahomes, and he's fat. I'm gonna say it, and I'm gonna tell you the truth, that’s why you hit the play button, he's an embarrassment," he said. Suh's performance is probably the best recent DT besides Aaron Donald.

Kong will wait at least a few years after his 2027 first ballot for poor character and being suspended many times in his NFL career. There are also just better players waiting and upcoming... APete, Gronk, AntBrown, others 2027 entering the HOF pool also. The year after that is Brady, JJWatt, others entering 2028.

Suh was probably fringe first ballot on play and stats alone. It's not a position that has very many first ballot DTs (six so far, Aaron Donald will be the 7th when 2029 eligible). Ndamukong won't be in until 2030 or after imo.

Suh will still almost surely get into HOF barring some criminal or serious personal scandal popping up between now and whatever weaker HOF class year they put him as a finalist. He was good enough on-field to overcome being a junk teammate and not very well-liked in the league or even by fans. His cards are also low value for a reason.

majestik101

Do you think ex-Bucs OC can do the same for Sunshine as he did for Baker?

I have 100% more faith in Liam Coen's capabilities as T-Law's HC than I do Dave Canales capabilities as HC of Bryce Young.

I think Dave Canales is an A-hole. And based on what I have read on some Bucs fan-sites, he wasn't particularly well liked by the front office or the players.

Coen, on the other hand, was respected and highly regarded by the Bucs players, I think he's going to do just fine in Jacksonville. Can he reach T-Law the same way he reached Baker?

No clue.

The difference is, Baker was already on the upward trajectory, and is hungry for recognition and to shake the fart-stench of Cleveland off of him, plus he always walks around with a chip on his shoulder, wanting to prove that he's not some castaway QB.

Coen simply said OK, Baker I'm gonna help you take that next step, and he did. Says a lot about Baker imho.

Does T-Law have that fire in him? I would say nah. He comes across as smug with nothing to prove, just there to collect a pay-check. Totally different personalities.

Watt getting Garrett money is not surprising. As always with these contracts, the details are important. How much of an out do the Steelers have after year two. So Crosby, Garrett, and now Watt each upped the bar. Hutch is going to ask for an extension after this year. Obviously he has to have a monster season, but he is going to want big money. I don't think he is worth raising the bar again, but the floor has certainly been raised. His contract will start with a 3.

$23MM per year ties him for the 10th highest paid Edge rusher (with Alex Van Ginkel), and just ahead of Trey Hendrickson, who is holding out for more money.

Karlaftis is just 24 years old. Age wise, the closet comp is Gregory Rousseau, who's at $20MM per year and 25 years old. Karlaftis has been a better player. In 1 less season (3 vs 4), they are tied in Sacks during the regular season, but Karlaftis has a pretty incredible 8 sacks in 10 playoff game, while Rousseau has 3 in 9 games. Karlaftis has led the league in post season sacks 2 years in a row.

For the ages 24-27 season of Karlaftis, I think ranging from the 10-15th highest paid DE in the league doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Look, I am a fan of Karlaftis. I just don’t see his production being worthy of $23+ million per year. An average of 8.5 sacks per year is not particularly exciting. He is tied for 22nd in sacks since 2022 in the regular season at 24.5. I get that he is young and has turned it on over the last 2 yrs in the playoffs. Maybe that momentum will carry through to this year. But, don’t forget that Chris Jones is soaking up double teams every play he is out there, which leaves George 1v1 a lot with still limited production. I hope I’m wrong, as he seems to be a high character guys and hard worker.

There was a good article in the KC Star on it (https://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/sam-mcdowell/article311052650.html).

Right now he's probably the 12th-15th best edge rusher in the NFL, and tied for 10th highest paid. Over the next 4 years he'll be be moving down that highest paid list and hopefully up the best edge rusher list.

Even if he never gets into the elite tier, or next tier down, it's okay because he's not paid like it. TJ Watt and Myles Garrett are making about 2x what he is. Hunter, Crosby, and Bosa are making 50% more.

He gets paid the same as Alex Van Ginkel, who has less total career sacks and is 30.

Less than Rashan Gary (age 28), who had 7.5 sacks last year and a career high of 9.0 (both less than George's regular season totals the last two years).

Montez Sweat gets paid $24.5MM per year... He had 5.5 sacks last year. 29 years old.

Brian Burns was a killer in Carolina. His last two years in New York? 8.5 sacks and 8.0 sacks. He gets $28.2MM per.

So those are your 4 guys right in front of him in pay. All older, none producing more than he is. If you really want to talk about the tier of EDGE that out produces him by a mile, you need to get to the Bosa/Crosby/Hunter level, and those guys makes 50% more and at a prime age.

It's a fair contract.

Ding, ding, ding. Karlaftis is nothing special. KC could have taken Rashan Gary off our hands if they wanted an overrated pass-rusher making big money.

Nah... he's produced more sacks age 21-23 than Gary has age 25-27 (or in any 3 year span of this career), and signed a cheaper contract than Gary.

That's why I don't get outrage over this deal. It slots him on par with Alex Van Ginkel and right above Gregory Rousseau.

My hot take is that it'll actually be money better spent than the $123.7MM they handed out to Chris Jones for his age 30-33 seasons. Just look at the last two season totals:

Sacks:
Chris Jones: 17.0
George Karlaftis: 25.5

Tackles:
Jones: 80
Karlaftis: 114

Tackles for Loss:
Jones: 23
Karlaftis: 23

And that includes Jones' 1 year deal before the new contract.

I'm not going to go as far as saying that Karlaftis is better than Jones at this point, but I wouldn't be surprised if Karlaftis' age 24-27 season is a better value at 75% of the cost of Jones' are 30-33 season

The Browns are absolutely the team to watch this preseason.... Not necessarily in a good way.

But 4 guys legitimately fighting for the starting jobs.

4 guys that could all legitimately see themselves traded/cut

Small sample size, but in 2023 when Jones held out of Game 1 vs Detroit, then only played 50% of the snaps in Week 2, Furious George had:

Week 1: 7 Tackles (3 solo, 4 ast), 1 Pass Defended, 1 TFL
Week 2: 1.5 Sacks, 4 Tackles, 1 TFL, 2 QB Hits

and in 2024 when Jones was out Week 17 vs Pitt:

Week 17: 1 Sack, 1 TFL, 2 Tackles, 2 QB hits, 1 Pass Defended

Just 3 games, but he's been pretty effective without Jones around.

Don’t blame them especially with this weekends heat dome stuff. Heat index supposed to be up to 110 in Tampa.

Good for him for losing weight though. Wonder what the ideal weight they want for him.

Vita Vea's 6 ft 4 in, around 365 lbs, and this kid's 6 ft 6 in so I'm thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 385-390

It's crazy to think a guy this large (weighed in at 464 pounds on his pro day) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.86 seconds, in addition to recording a vertical jump of 25 inches

So he needs to shed about 50 lbs more? Doable but how long will that take. Sounds like he won’t be ready for start of season. He’s an interesting pick for sure. Let’s see if he’s motivated.

It's literally been his nickname for years and listed on his Pro-football-reference page.

And yeah, I'm using Week 17, Week 1, and Week 2 performance to justify his play. As well as his career playoff stats of

8 TFLs

36 Tackles (21 solo)

And you definitely are the person who reads the headlines and posts a reaction without ever reading the article to understand the context. (being that I never said that Chris Jones didn't make him better... just that he's played well in Jones' absence.)

Because I could be wrong. And as a matter of fact, I consider one of my personal strengths the fact that I can acknowledge when I'm wrong and course correct (like when I PC'd Ben Simmons, then sold it all during summer workout video hype to load up on more Patrick Mahomes back in Summer 2020).

And again. I'm not saying that George Karlaftis is going to the HOF, or even that he's better than Chris Jones (he's not).

I'm just backing my case that in the history of horrible contracts, handing out one that pays him to be the 10th-~15th highest paid edge rusher over his age 24-27 seasons doesn't look like one of the worst going into it. This isn't Daniel Jones getting $40MM a year or Deshaun Watson getting $240MM guaranteed. It's a fair market deal.

What? Help me understand the context of the bolded please. Did I misquote something about Furious George?

I just know a good supporting actor when I see one. Put him on any other team that has a hole in the middle of the defense and I would bet George would not be as prosperous as he is playing for the Chiefs.

Because you attempted to twist my words and infer that I said that Jones doesn't make people around him better.

All I was doing was proving the point that Karlaftis has played well without Jones in the lineup as well as with him in the line up.

Now I ask that you help me understand: What's so preposterous about using Week 17 of the 2024 NFL season performance as a data point (I had already pointed out that it was a small sample size)?
