eBay DSR question

I just received a low DSR for communication. I have no idea what I did wrong, and the buyer didn't tell me what I did to receive a low DSR. All feedback is positive, so I have no way of knowing why I got a low DSR.

I know for a fact that I had no low DSR's in communication this morning, and 1 feedback was left today, and now I have 1 low DSR in communication.

My question is this: does anyone know for a fact that low DSR's are added to your rating immediately as they are given? If so, then I know exactly who left the low DSR. However, I am under the impression that eBay can hold back low DSR's and doll them out randomly, so as to make them truly anonymous.

Does anyone know either way, for certain, how low DSR's are handed out? Immediately when given, or can they be handed out randomly thus hiding the person who gave them?

When you give feedback, there is a score of 1-5, some idiot probably gave you a 1 or a 2. If you get enough of those Ebay will stop you from selling or give you warnings, its totally gay, I got one of those warnings, and the next week I was a power seller????

I don't think that they are doing anything extraordinary to hide the DSR identities. There are a couple of guides on ebay that talk about how you can figure out who gave you low dsrs, which seem to hinge on it being chronological (given out immediately). Below are the links. Sorry to hear you got screwed; we had the same thing happen to us a couple months back.

The two guides seem to suggest that DSR's are given chronologically, but are "...recorded according to their transaction dates instead of the dates that are left...". Even so, the guide in the second link gives you a way to find the exact transaction that has the low DSR, assuming you have some clue as to which one it is. You can generate reports with 10 transactions, put in the one you think has it, then remove it and add another, compare the results with a little math, and you have your answer.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I see your threads about DSR and feedback all the time and I think you're putting to much effort into it. You can be the most perfect eBay seller and people are going to be a-holes about leaving proper responses. As long as you know you're doing what you're supposed to be doing, forget about the DSR bull cuz you can't do anything anyways

Not 100% true. It is possible (but highly unlikely) to have a low DSR removed by proving that the person who left it also left positive feedback with no mention of the poor area of service. They will make it near impossible to have removed, but it can be and has beeen done in the past.

i had one guy who bought 10+ cards who left a low dsr on the communication, (fact is he never once contacted me about anything. i can only assume that he put a 1 because it was not needed??? anyway i contacted ebay and they reduced the # of dsr from 10 to 1, because it counted for 10 1s

Yeah, I know you are right Screamer. I take the ratings personally, which is the wrong way to think about it. I find myself having a hard time letting go of that personal connection. But I will have to.

And I know that losing the 20% on Final Value Fees is inevitable. But I have a plan: once I lose that 20% discount, then I'll start charging for shipping at cost, $1.75 per 2-3 oz. and then $0.17 for each oz above 3. That should help offset the loss of 20% on Final Value Fees.

Using the technique outline in the 2nd link (search by item #'s), I was able to determine exactly which buyer left the low DSR. And it's good I did that because I thought it was a different buyer than it turned out to be. Also, the low DSR did NOT appear in my feedback in chronological order, it was close, but off by a little bit which cause me to pin the low DSR on the wrong buyer.

The technique is pretty easy to use, but only works on single items. If you have an item that is actually sold in multiples, then the technique does not work, although the author of the document says there is a way to find that out as well.

I'm not sure why Ebay tries to put up a veil for this kind of information. As a seller the only way to know how to improve is to have transparent feedback. I think unfortunately, some people use the DSRs as a passive/agressive way to get at sellers, when all they really needed to do was communicate what they didn't like, so it could be fixed.

Anyway, ebay rant off. You obviously put a lot of effort in to being a responsible seller, so hopefully things work out.
