Garrard is a proven winner. He's had some pretty good seasons (none really bad) with the Jaguars, who have never had a really good team that he should've went further with. The guy can flat out manage the game like a true QB should.
Alex on the other hand, was just a benefit of Jim Harbaugh's coaching. The guy sucked when he should've been great all years prior to last.
$8m for Alex, versus like $3mil for Garrard? ---- LOL if Miami messes this one up too.

Alex helped 49ers get to NFC champ game 2011. Gerrard didn't play in 2011 at all did he?

I don't want either.
When I think of the Niners and their success, Smith is not the first or second aspect of that comes to mind.
Miami doesn't have a the #1 defense, a kicker who can win games (Carpenter had a terrible season) and the off. coaching Niners have, so I'd be shocked if Smith had a good season out the gate in a Fins uni.

Give me Alex Smith. BTW if Smith benfited from Harbaugh's coaching, did Aaron Rodgers benefit from Philin's coaching the past 4 years? Packers offense >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>49ers offense

I forgot about that...let's hope Philbin at the head position works out.
