View Full Version : The truth about Haiku:

A few weeks ago I made a large purchase from none other than Haiku for a couple grand, and all of a sudden a emergency arose where I could not fully pay him back. To be honest, I was probably about $600 short due to this emergency.
Of course, Haiku being the great person that he is still sent me the cards and just literally told me to "pay him back whenever." Then a little after, I was trying to recoup these funds, but out of nowhere I get a paypal payment from Haiku for the the same amount that I originally owed him. He told me to pay him back whenever my situation was resolved. I had the funds a week later and sent Haiku the payment for the money I owed him, and he immediately refunded me, and told me not to worry about it and donate it to a good cause.

WOW
I really wish there was something we could do FOR HAIKU and not the other way around, but I feel like if we were to do something, he'd just turn around and give whatever we give him away to someone else.
Maybe since the OP knows him outside of here he can figure out something we can do as a collective for Haiku to only fractionally pay him back for his ridiculous generosity he's given to the boards.

Besides all the giveaways and his not so profitable quick sales(for him!), I just enjoy dealing with him. Always hassle free, witty pm's, super fast shipping. Just really nice to deal with a guy like that, especially in this hobby.

I love this idea. If this was to be done, it would have to be something unique. Doesn't have to be something expensive but something unique that he would actually cherish and keep. If you or anyone ever gets the ball rolling with ideas, shoot me a pm and I would try to pitch in if at all possible!

I'm thinking it just might have to be something where we aren't actually giving him something, I'm guessing (based on what and how much he gives away) that he has everything he wants.
I'm thinking maybe we do something in his honor, like maybe have him tell us what his favorite charity is, we take up a collection and make a donation in his name.
What do you guys think about that?
I personally haven't been on the recieving end of any of his contests yet (they're freaking hard, I got 8/10 on one a couple weeks ago, best I've done hahaha) but I've seen everything he's done for members on here and while I can't afford a lot, I'd for sure be willing to throw some money into the pot for something like that.

The classic question... "What do you give the man who has everything" haha... Maybe we can get the op in PMs and see if he has any ideas since he knows the OP better than you and I. But I would definitely want to be a part of something like this.

I like the idea, But I think it needs to be something for him. Sure, he has a lot but it doesnt necessarily need to be cards related. Something more personal maybe? I would definitely be down for something.

I'd love to do something FOR HIM, but I get the feeling that making a donation to a charity of HIS choosing, may be exactly the type of thing he would love.
But I'm certainly open to any better ideas if someone has something.
But I don't think he does all these contests/giveaways for the hell of it because he can, I think he truly enjoys the giving away to those who need it more aspect of it. Which is why I think a donation to a charity would be right up his ally and something that really is FOR HIM.
Anyone else have other ideas?
Should I start a new thread for us to throw some ideas out there for this?

I know there are people on here who can't afford to give money, but would probably be able to donate cards
In those situations we could have one person run auctions, .99 starting bids, $2 shipping, 7 days, and all proceeds would go towards this collective fund.
Maybe have someone who has an ebay store run that portion of it to minimize the fees that would get taken out to maximize our pot.
I'd be willing to run the cash donation portion of it, set up a new paypal account with a new email, post the paypal account in a thread on here so everyone can send whatever they feel comfortable sending and nobody needs to know who sent what.
Can give the password of the account to a few trusted members so that everyone feels comfortable that every penny sent will be used for the donation(s) and none of it is going to a person's personal account
EDIT: Just realized while all this is great to talk about, I think this thread should be about the ridiculously generous act by Haiku towards the OP, I'm creating a new thread to keep this talk separate and let that act stand alone

Literally am speechless. Such a class act. Who just refunds that much money? Only Haiku. Hundreds of dollars dont matter to him because hes helping someone out. Haiku- you are truly an awesome person. Words cant describe what you do to and for the forum. More people need to be like you. Anything we can do to give back in some way. Even though it couldnt match the generosity of his. I would more than gladly like to be a part of it. Thank you again Haiku

Never dealt with Haiku either but he seems like an awesome person. Saying that he's generous is an understatement. Not many are in a position where they can give, and there are many who are in that position but don't care to give. It's awesome to see someone in our (sometimes corruptive) hobby that cares.

He basically leveraged me. Told me to send him a buck, I did, few days later got a pair of beats with a note saying "You won one of the christmas giveaways." I am not going to lie, I was like gatoryboy, and talked to him often, because I thought highly of him, and looked at him for advice since I was interested in his occupation. Needless to say, I was used and abused.

You are because you don't even know the situation. That guy isn't even on here anymore. He leaves feedback 3 months after a transaction happened. Out of no where. I'm really gonna scam someone and ruin a rep here over $10? Come on. You just think you are the greatest, when you aren't. Go be rich.

I must say, this was quite the elaborate scheme if it turns out this was all fraudulent.
Didn't want to say anything myself, but there were a lot of red flags. Like HUGE red flags.
Had all the makings of a Nigerian scam except there was actually money and free gifts fronted in this situation.
But the underlying theme in all these scams is the same: appeal to the emotions of the individual. In this case, the feel good notion of giveaways and giving to those less fortunate was ridiculously contagious on here, especially since it's the holiday season.
Four Common Stages of a Scam (internet or not) : tease, please, seize, squeeze, using mystery shopping scam as example (http://kschang.hubpages.com/hub/Four-Stages-of-a-Scam-tease-please-seize-squeeze)

I wouldn't necessarily say this guy is involved in the scheme.
Could very well be Haiku did give away headphones. After all, what's the big deal if he only gives away ~1 or 2k worth of stuff in order to get 5 digits + in return?
One thing I would suggest though, is checking those headphones to see if they are genuine and not fake. Could easily be verified by doing some online research. Beats headphones are the most readily faked items on the market today.

Not that hard...
1. Haiku gives unbelievable deals on quicksales/lots (these same cards were likely stolen from members here)
2. Haiku has "contests" for free items (these contests were actually fixed, winners were shills that help him perpetuate his scheme.)
3. Building on goodwill that was bought and not earned, Haiku sells mystery "lots" that are sold for up to several thousand, never delivers.
4. People on blowout are scammed for money.
5. Substitute "Haiku" for "Fanbro", works out similarly
6. In 1-2 years, this exact same thing will happen again, capitializing on member greed/gullibility

Yes, you did summarize it, but only parts, there is WAY more to the story that is very relevant if you want to know what is really going on, which is why the abridged version doesn't work very well for this

The major lesson learned is that this is an internet forum and you shouldn't really trust anyone without protecting yourself to some degree.
I couldn't understand why people were riding Haiku's magic wand so hard that they wanted to actually start sending the freakin' guy gifts!!
If something is too good to be true, it probably is.
If somebody wants to be a keyboard Mother Theresa, that's great. But don't buy into it and start worshiping them like it's the 2nd coming of Christ.

cause people are sheep and when they are getting supposedly free stuff they become hypnotized. this guy could of started a cult and would have had 1/4 of this forum follow him. it's basic manipulation. i would get disgusted reading his giveaway threads. i posted in the beats one once and felt dirty after and never did it again. then his giveaway about doing charity, that really disgusted me. everyone was falling all over themselves selling out the good deeds they did from the heart and demeaning themselves all in the name of free swag.

That's a damn shame about Haiku if it's true. I want to be completely clear that I'm in no way defending him in any way, but wouldn't it be fair to say that for people to blindly believe that he's some kind of saint is equal to people blindly believing he's some sort of thief? If he was scheming people and so many people here knew about it, why wasn't anything done about him earlier? Do people have hard evidence, not mere speculation, that he did indeed steal from people? If so, he should be brought up on serious charges.

yeah man. when the let's do something for haiku threads started it was all i could do not to post and tell people how stupid and pathetic they sounded.
i mean i will admit i never thought he would end up a scammer. funny enough i thought he was a genuinely good person in the few conversations i had with him. but i just always knew it wasn't going to end well for him, but i thought it would be because of the sheer weight of all the freeloading brokedicks constantly coming at him would cause him to snap and lose his sh!t. and at first that is what it seemed happened with the go kill yourself tirade. i just thought the weight of all the people with their hands out to him finally got to him.
unfortunately for many he ended up being a huge scammer scumbag instead. thank god i'm not a weak minded idiot and never got caught up in the hype though, people say that no one likes a cynical a$$hole, but i tell you man more and more in this crazy world we live in it pays to be one.

it may not have been perfect, it seems he set himself up to have a reason out that people would give him more credit for the delay in shipping the lots. Enough time for money to clear paypal and be scott free, however if the money hasnt cleared yet as of when his account was frozen he may not have made out with anything other than what was sent as gift. He gave me some mumbo jumbo about if i had to ask the lots werent for me and i would get way more than i paid for. I looked into him and he seemed like a good guy so i almost pulled the trigger but my better judgement told me to just spend my money on ebay and get what i want

BINGO! Scamming is the easy way out, anyone with half a brain can do it with a little planning.

I would love to know his final tally at the end of the day. I remember when he posted the lots and being curious about them, but I haven't made a single deal on this site and wasn't about to make a "mystery lot" my first. I remember him putting up quantites avaiable, but clearly he was selling as many as he could; and without a trade manager there is no way to tell how many people actually bought into these. Just disgusting to think about...

I would estimate the loss on this site with stolen cards and stolen money to be around $30,000. This guy did everything smoothly and this was not the first time he did this either so im sure he made at least $100,000 from multiple sites / scams

I'm assuming he just built up this great reputation and then when people trusted him took complete advantage of that

Its way more the 30K. 2 people only lost that amount in cards and cash.

So can any legit members actually confirm that they got any of the "great" cards he was giving away?

Some owners are getting their cards back slowly. He would tell them the cards are still getting graded to delay him sending his part of the deal.

This is why I got out of card collecting. Too many people that you just can't trust anymore. I only collected for a couple of years most recently, but would always seem to be losing money due to people scamming. Not even worth it in the long run.
The last straw was when I would sell some cards and people were complaining that the card I sent couldn't be graded a 9 or 9.5. "How am I supposed to grade this as a 9.5? It may get 9, but probably an 8.5". Never any mention of the condition needing to be of high standards and I would also take high quality pics of my cards when selling. I would mention if there were ever any flaws on the card, but I guess people get buyers remorse and always try to pull a fast one.
Another last straw is when I sent first to a member that had very good feedback and he was going to pay me on payday. Then all of a sudden he is banned and several people lost out on deals with him. It just goes to show you can't trust anyone on an internet forum.
Lastly, I feel sorry for the people who got duped, but can't imagine why people would fork over that much money blindly. Hopefully paypal can do something for you all. I hope this Haiku SOB gets what's coming to him.

Just took a little offense to this. I was actually a winner in one of his contests(Bilal Powell cards). I am not affiliated with this in any way whatsoever.
I never enter any giveaways for anything unless it s a jets card that will only be for myself and no one else. Heck I gto a contenders and SPA auto and since I dont collect college, I gave it away to someone else on here along with 3 other cards. I dont like to take away from people who might want that card for their own collections, but what really ticks me off about these boards lately, is the fact some topics will not get much response, but if there is a giveaway, the world stops turning and just about everyone who was ever issued a username will post in there to get something for free. Truthfully it is patetic. Joe Schmo could put up a Marcus Easly auto or jersey contest, and within the next 2 hours the thread will be 8 pages long full of "why not" "I'm in, thanks" It's terrible.
Now dont get me wrong there are plenty of great members on here but lets face it there is also a bunch of "fluff" too.

Anybody who I don't even know sends me free stuff, my first suspicion is it's stolen or has a crush on me.
