Only makes sense to do at a show if you want to sell them at the show. Sending in for RCR is pointless.

Yea, I won't buy an RCR card if someone puts a premium on it. It's just like a raw card to me. I hate graded and the science of it. So I stay away from graded stuff. The only reason I'd buy an RCR card is to take it out of the slab. That's why I wouldn't pay any kind of premium for it.

Some of the guys on here and elsewhere seem to think RCR is as good as graded. They'll take an RCR card and price it the same as if it were truly graded. But since RCR isn't real grading, it shouldn't be that way.

It gives a better idea than just being a raw card so there should be some premium on it. You know the card doesnt have a knife mark going through it or something terrible with it.

But the card is also not protected the same and the grade isn't 100% true. Its only 99% accurate.

But it also 99.9% of the time will be slabbed that grade if you submit it. Of course they are going to ask for a premium (your thoughts on grading not withstanding - which is an entirely different debate)

I could see knocking $15 off the "Graded" price because that's what it would cost me to submit - but RCR is just as good as slabbed if you regularly send to BGS and don't mind waiting a week or two.

It doesn't guarantee anything - but you've got like a 99% chance of getting that slabbed grade if you sent it in.

I've personally never done a RCR - I just send directly to BGS - but I can see how some people (especially if they just want to sell) would get a RCR done at a show so they can sell a 9.5/10 at the 9.5/10 price - or just below since I'd have to pay to submit it.

I recently bought a 9.5/10 RCR on eBay for a little under the slabbed cost knowing I'd just send it in myself and get a slabbed 9.5/10 back.

RCR's are graded the same as BGS but they are just not slabbed and broken down by subs like BGS. The downside is the protection of the card in the RCR sleeve. You can damage the card if you are not careful, which could change the grade if you were to get slabbed. For me, it's a great way to get grade on a card without having to pay a ton and wait for weeks to get it back, and I haven't had an issue with them when slabbing either.

I believe they have a deal where the RCR card is $10 for 10 day service per card or $15 to get it slabbed that same day.

In my opinion...its a good means of knowing what you will ultimately get slabbed. I do raw review and if its not a 9-9.5 I don't pay to have slabbed. Saves on shipping, insurance, and the full price of slabbing a card that could be an 8!

And so far, when I have a raw review, Beckett has honoured all of them.

I have never had that happen to me.

I will say that I just got 3 cards re-graded from being a 9/10 and all 3 are getting 9.5/10.

The grader of 2 oranges had issues with the edges of them (i have no idea what that issue was) but he slammed the edges on one down to a 8!!!!

Obviously that is a grader issue not a card issue if the card just got a 9.5 in RCR.

I have no problem saying that. If I dont see an issue with a card when I get it graded I have no problem trying again b/c it wasnt the grade that I saw in the card.

I have started to record my evaluation of cards when I submit them and I'm interested to see how it compares.

I am a fan of grading and a fan of RCR...until recently.
At the most recent show here in Portland I had 13 cards graded for $6.50 each.
9 cards came back with grades I liked so I paid an extra $8 per card + roughly $25 in insurance and shipping to have slabbed and returned.
All cards came back as graded, except one, which was pretty unfortunate.

In reality, I would prefer to just send in to BGS in bulk, pay $8 per card, wait, and then crack if needed. It seems cheaper in the long run, however, I do love the instant (4-6 hours) knowledge of what the card "should" grade.
