I knew there was a Firefly set coming by Upper Deck and should be out later this year from what I hear. But what I didn't know was there are going to be sketch cards. I hope Upper Deck does this set right as it could be huge.
From their Facebook page:
CALLING ALL FIREFLY ARTISTS!!!
We are looking for artists with a particular skill. That skill is a tremendous passion for the Firefly series. Firefly is a show that holds a very special place in our hearts here at Upper Deck. We know that in order to make the best Firefly products possible we need to include people that are as equally passionate about Firefly as we are. After all, the fans are the reason this amazing show is still in the forefront of pop culture after 10 years. These same fans can only help make our products shiny.
If you have the passion and want to be a part of our upcoming Firefly products you can send us an email at firefly_art@upperdeck.com. Be sure to include samples of your art. This can be attached images (keeping the total file size under 5MB) or a link to a website containing your art (preferred method). I swear by my pretty floral bonnet we will review each and every one of these submissions.
To show your passion, feel free to include in the email why you want to be, should be, or maybe even need to be part of our Firefly products. We want artists that are passionate about the series so let it show.
Upper Deck's goal is simple:
Find a crew, Find a job, Keep flying.
Bill
Saw a solicitation for this today. Looks like September release.
Unfortunately the case rate is probably going to be around $1200.

Loved those Inkworks cards, loved the show and still watch an episode from time to time...BUT, to do ANOTHER card set?? Good Grief! The Inkworks cards were plenty! (and will hold their value) With all the crap Hollywood puts out, I can't believe no producer fired this show back up! Makes me sick

Pretty much. My luck isn't good enough to justify that kind of lottery ticket!
I might feel differently if I were into sketches. I'm mainly in it for the autos, though, and $100 is enough to meet, thank, and get a personal auto from any two of the cast members except Nathan at a con.
Love the show, love the cast, looking forward to getting to meet Morena this fall, if just for 30 seconds...

It's a gamble to pre-order this product. The "other" site has them up for pre-sale and it's $102/box.
I bet it's 1-2 hits per box with sketch cards being the "rare" case hits.

Aren't they all a gamble?
When there's no info on what's in a box or case, it's a true gamble.
Most of the time we know, when we pre-order, what we're getting ourselves into so it's not truly a gamble like it is with this or any other product with no info on pre-order!
As another rogue starship captain said, "Never tell me the odds!"

$70-80 has been my experience. He was $70 last year at Dallas Comic Con, but I think he was $75 or $80 at this years DCC.

Assuming she doesn't cancel like she's had to at the last 3 cons I could've seen her.
Well, yes. There's a reason I haven't pre-bought tickets to the con yet. Every time I visit their webpage I hold my breath. She could always end up with another job that conflicts, and if so, I'll just catch her at a different con down the road.
Nathan's autograph price at the upcoming Comic Cons (Pittsburgh, Chicago, Nashville) is $100. Most of the other cast stay around 40, other than Adam, who has gone up to 50.

I'm glad I got most of them on my poster back with they were under $40. I think Ron, Jewel, Sean, and Morena were all $35 when I got them years ago.

Cleared to show all the art I did for the base set of The Verse!
I’ve been a big fan of the show and film and was thrilled to have the chance to work on these, especially working in the style of vintage pulp art which I love so much. These are all either an acrylic painting or illustration which I scanned and then digitally created the covers.

If nobody else is going to say it, I will: Those are fantastic. They capture the characters without giving me any sense of having seen those combinations of poses and expressions in quite that way ever before; they are truly yours. With a show as iconic and with images that have become so iconic, that's really hard to do. Masterfully done.

Price point on this is high, but this stuff could be killer. Multiple distributors had the date as 9/15. Not sure if this is correct or not..BO has different. This is all I recieve on the info but it's looking good..
"Collect the base set featuring Original Art based upon the Firefly series! Five to six base cards in each Hobby pack. Look for autographs of the actors and cards containing replicated iconic patches! 1-of-1 Artist Sketch cards featuring original art interpretations of Firefly. Collect the 3 different Parallels of the base set. Parallels come in foil, canvas stock and autographed versions. Look for Subset cards featuring the characters, ships, locations and weapons within The Verse. Look for Authentic 1-of-1 Press Plate cards!
I think most of the info is the same..but it's UD so I don't expect alot of updates..
Did you do any others like say Christina Hendricks' character?
In talking to an artist at Chicago Wizard World that did some of the base card art, he was not allowed to use Chrstina Hendricks likeness.

I did 8 paintings for base cards...these are those cards. Part of my payment for the base card work I did is receiving AP's of base cards and Ap's of my autograph cards.
I did happen to do 25 sketch cards as well...
Oh and the original paintings are in my possession... If that's what you mean about the one's I didn't get back?

Larger originals. I saw some of Bill Pulkovski's art for cards in Chicago. I want to say it was 5x7ish.

That is weird. Could get a bit confusing if that starts happening alot. In the card world that is usually soley a sketch card term.
So its just a base card stamped AP? I understand its a form of compensation, but when you can just get the base card in a box what is the point? Will the be signed i guess? Or something.

There are artist autograph cards in set. As I mentioned before, those are on a matte stock. I think I signed 40 (maybe 30, can't remember now) of each of my 8 base cards for the set. So I guess these AP's are a way to facilitate fans being able to pick up all the cards signed, in addition to providing further compensation to those who worked on the set.

At the end of the day, there is no point to trading cards in general. :D
+1 :)
There are still a lot of master set collectors out there, and Firefly has a HUGE following. Don't know how many copies of each card stamped AP will be available, how many artists will decide to sell them, etc... But I could see this being a huge chase for some of those master collectors with pockets deep enough to persuade stubborn artists into giving them up. On the other hand, some will probably sell on ebay for just a few bucks.

hi Guys,
just wondering if any Actors are actually confirmed for this release....it's out in 2 weeks, would be nice to try to figure out a plan for one of my favorite shows....
What I've read on Upper Deck sorta has me scared at this point....

I gave up on the idea of opening any with the lack of any information, got baseball and non-sports plates instead. Good luck to all, look forward to seeing breaks though.

From the previews and just the artist stuff I've seen guessing Fillion and Baldwin are the only real confirmations.

Considering how many of these guys sign routinely at cons, I'm expecting most of the main cast. Especially if Fillion is confirmed, since he is typically the most expensive at cons. Glau would be the big question mark to me.

Based on the sketches Tim Shay posted earlier in this thread, it looks like they should get all of the main case to sign. But if you're really worried, there really is no reason to pre-order any of this until you get a confirmed auto list. The only reason you would need to pre-order is if you are buying wholesale from a distributor, any collectors buying retail should have no trouble picking this product up once it releases...

Glau signed for arrow, so maybe! Doesn't necessarily mean she'll sign for firefly, but at least she's signing cards so it gives hope.

Hahaha. Fair Point. I just dont have the aforementioned 'deep pockets' so I don't usewhatI have on paralells usually. But I guess you are right, there is probably a fair amount of people who do collect them.
That's right, the artists all have their original art.
I'm sure the artist will be signing these. I know I will.

Sorry, I wasnt trying to sound rude, I'm pro-artist. I'm all for them getting as much compensation as possible. I just didnt think somethinglike that would bring alot of money. Like the company should have done something more than just stamp AP on them. But if signed they make a decent amount, more power to you! I guess at least the company did something more than usual.
This might be a dumb question, but is the entire set illustrated? I havent seen any actual photos used on anything. Its cool, just wondering why.
Scratch that, i guess there might be a couple small pictures on things in the first post. Is the entire base set illustrated tho?

No worries! I didn't take it as rude at all. And I didn't mean to make it sound like these AP's would be the bulk of my payment either. I do have all my original art for the 8 cards I did that will hopefully contribute more to than end! :D
I do believe the base set is illustrated.

well I have a few cases of this set..... after the Journey to the Force nightmare & losing the Charles Hall Artist Proof that was on eBay last Month....sorta worried. Would've felt better if I won it..... the guy got Kaylee on the AP...it's on Charles Hall FB page.
Missed it by that much............
hope it's an Actor Auto at least every 2 boxes........
could do with a River or 2 Autographs.............
hope it does have the main cast.......
I'd hate to just stop buying cases...but It may come to that if this fails as aggressively as a few recent sets have............
hope it's an Actor Auto at least every 2 boxes.
6 autos in a case of actor autographs is a little overly optimistic for UD product. I'd be happy if there are 4, but I'm expecting 2-3. It might be an auto every other box, but half those will be artist autos.

my hope comes from the fact that all the main cast is signing 'maybe'....
plus any guest stars , writers and of course Joss Whedon.....
then the Artist Autos......
Really hoping it works out.............

nice AP ..
seems odd that the artist was selling before the actual release /street date of the set
wonder why not all artists do this?
or case/box breakers flooding ebay having received before street date
oh yeah .. :doh::rolleyes:

There is a small albeit not likely that the auto checklist is missing names I know from some information that the art work for the characters was actor approved. But maybe something changed inbetween that process and the approval process. We can hope. Cardboard connection has missed stuff before
morena, jewel, and fillion though - pretty good.

UD dropped the ball on this one. You can't come out with a "Firefly" set and not have the essential cast autos. No wonder they never released any information on this product. It's a shame because it had the potential to be a huge success.

i'll still probably pick up a few boxes, hoping to hit one of the triple autos or a nice sketch
UD dropped the ball on this one.
Looks good to me.
Would it have been nice to get everyone to sign, sure. Who knows why they didn't. Money, time, didn't want to. Unless we find out a company didn't even try to get someone to sign you can't lay fault with said company. And if the retort is 'don't make the set' you could be looking at significantly inflated box prices or almost no sets being made because I don't think there are many where they get everyone to sign.
Here's some pretty Big As# News.........
NO RIVER TAM / SUMMER GLAU AUTOS
NO GINA TORRES/ ZOE AUTOS????
NO ALAN TUDYK/WASH AUTOS?????
NO SAFFRON/ CHRISTINA HENDRICKS AUTOS
NO JOSS WHEDON AUTO..................
Surprised on Glau, Torres, Tudyk given art work was approved. Not surprised on Hendricks since I was told artists couldn't use her likeness on base cards at all.

I'm a huge firefly/Serenity fan. I have the auto sets from inkworks. I completely expected the full cast autos in this set. Why can't you blame the card company? They are the ones putting out the product. This has been in the works for awhile and there's a reason they never told the public what to expect from this set.
UD knew if they announced they didn't have the full cast that his product would have been a complete failure. Now that everyone has ordered the product and they've printed it and they are releasing it next week, they decide to let out the checklist.
I pre-ordered a case of this product. I should have expected this crap from UD. There's a reason I stopped collecting UD products.

99.9% sure they will be sticker autos like all UD nonsports products. Plus the fact that there are dual and triple autos which guaranteed will be stickers.

I miss Inkworks. :(
I really do.
Why can't you blame the card company? They are the ones putting out the product.
I'm specifically talking about autos. Obviously their intent was for several others to sign given the artwork, but like I said.. who knows why they didn't sign. Until a card company comes out and specifically gives a reason why someone didn't sign, we will never know (and I'm pretty sure a company will never air business negotiations). I think the Chloe Bennet auto for SHIELD is one of the rare cases where a company said why an auto wasn't included.
Now.. crush Upper Deck about not being forthcoming about anything and stickers and a slew of other things, but I can't crush them specifically on who did or didn't sign.
Although.....
On a different point, I wonder if Upper Deck has difficulty signing some people because of their use of stickers. If I'm someone doing autographs, I might not want to sign a bunch of stickers because I have absolutely no idea what those could be slapped on. I sign a card, it's on a card. I sign a sticker and who knows.

With the way most actor's sign nowadays it would just be a bunch of stickers with scribbles on them that no one could read ;)

All of the Firefly auto's have been readily available on ebay the last 6 mo's, and especially the last 2. Fillion's auto is the highest selling among them, yes even more than Summer's.
I am surprised Glau isn't in the set considering she's been doing the comic con circuit, signing literally thousands of auto's. But I don't think the set is a failure by any means. Those that have done a lot of UD sets know it's not just the auto's that sell the product. Hell, some of the relic cards from Guardians outsold all the actor autographs (which is insane to me lol).
I'm looking forward to seeing the sketches by the high end guys on this set tho.

I will say that after the car wrecks that were Ant-Man and Avengers, it's nice to see them actually get some of the main cast members into any non-sports product. I will give them that.

Sketches should be nice because it's not Star Wars or Marvel whose sketches are everywhere right now. Relic cards sell great if you pull the SP, otherwise they are right up there with the manufactured medallions and patches that Topps puts out..

It has been a while since I watched Firefly but, outside the main cast, who are the rest of those signers?
Were they notable characters, or just fifth from the left in an angry mob for two seconds of screen time?

I had to google around 70% of the list, some are notable as in you'll remember them (like the old guy who took them hostage). Others, like Eddie Adams, appeared for a few minutes only (he was the browncoat who died in the beginning of the pilot).

While they don't have everyone of the main cast, they have most. Plus, while the main cast is great, I love the supporting actors autos....many of them have been in several other "big" things.
Plus in a series that only latest 12 episodes, I'm actually surprised at all that did sign....
Maybe I've watched too many Shows or seen too many movies...while they may not be household names in Firefly........I knew all of these without looking at IDM!
Maybe, since I have all of the Inkworks Firefly & Serenity autos, I don't mind as much but I like the supporting cast autos.
AB Adam Baldwin
AD Eddie Adams
AN Andrew Bryniarski..........Leatherface- Texas Chainsaw movies
AU Andy Umberger............Buffy, Mad Men, American Horror Story

I was upset to see that a few I had hoped for Hadn't signed......
Had to edit original post after noticing Zoe & Wash were not signing.....
Summer Glau only has A Serenity Auto & it's Pricey.....
was also Hoping Joss had signed..... his from Buffy costs an Arm & a Leg.....
a Signed Auto from Joss would've made me Happy as hell.....
Hendricks would've be a decent seller....
Over all, I much happier about this set than most....
I Hope Sales will be Strong.....
30 Autographs aren't Bad from UD from what I've seen.....:)!
most have been happy with 6-8 Autos from an Entertainment Product
Then the Artist Auto set looks pretty good.....
I don't know a lot of them..... but it looks fantastic
Lots to chase... & UNLIKE Star Wars....this is ONLY the 3rd set
AND The First One in 10 Years......
now on to worrying how many GOOD Cast Autos I will Pull.... & Killer Sketch cards......
who Knows...there maybe a surprise or two still in there......
Pretty sure I won't pull a Harrison Ford Auto... but maybe I can spot him in a sketch card. Firefly Fans will get that one.... LOL :p

UD dropped the ball on this one. You can't come out with a "Firefly" set and not have the essential cast autos. No wonder they never released any information on this product. It's a shame because it had the potential to be a huge success.
Actually, they can do whatever they want.
I'm a huge firefly/Serenity fan. I have the auto sets from inkworks. I completely expected the full cast autos in this set. Why can't you blame the card company? Im sorry but this is just ridiculus. Im glad you are a huge fan, but you cant ever just expect a set to have every main character. I dont know if you could even find a single set that has every main character. Considering we get any autos i think we should feel lucky for what we do get. Its so much easier to get autos nowadays. But theres alot of the main cast and thats something. Who knows why they didnt get them all, but they didnt have to include any autos if they didnt want. I think having sketches will help alot. But saying you cant make a set just becuase you dont have every actor is absurd. Sometimes I'm dissapointed when an auto I wanted is absent, but I just get excited for what we do get! Not you specifically, this particular 'whine' has been heard many time, but people need to be grateful for what we get and not always freak out over what we dont.
Ps. Checklists are almost always released right before the set, i dont think they were trying to be shady and steal your money. Sell your case if yiu hate it that bad.

I concur with points made here about autos. We have no idea what goes into getting actors auto into a non sport card set. some here acting like UD told Torres or Summer.. Na we don't need your autos in this set though we went to the trouble to have you approve a card to be signed.
Im not saying upper deck is a great company, but common sense says they want the autos in the set that will help it sell in the start and in the long run. And to allow it to ruin the fun that set looks like it will offer is your choice.

6 people from the Serenity as well as 5 well known TV actors/actresses and a bunch of others......I'll admit I'm one of the first people willing to throw UD under the bus, get behind the wheel and continually go over them but for this set, they did pretty good.
Only real surprise for me on not signing for this set is Alan Tudyk considering not only his con presence but his attachment to Firefly and you gotta figure Fillion would have mentioned to him "Hey did you know they are doing a new firefly card set?' but 6/9 of main cast is not bad and more like with what UD should be striving for with their non sports sets.

Summer glau just signed for arrow so i thought it was kinda weird she didnt sign, however that may be the reason she didnt. Too many cards to sign, or maybe didnt want that many of her auto cards out there, or is it possible cze could keep her from signing for a certain amount of time so that people would buy arrow for her. Or something like that.

The only head scratcher is Tudyk . I have been to two of his panels last two years at comic cons and he just so loved talking about firefly and the fans that follow the show. He talked up the games including Firefly online. I am still hoping even though its a small 1% chance that he's in the set and the info out there just might be missing a few autos.

Tudyk gave away a ton of autographs at the last panel I saw with him, and signed a ton of stuff for $40 a pop at the con. He also gave away a lot of autographs from his gofundme thing for ConMan... it was one of the prizes for donating money. I think he doesn't like the idea of Upper Deck profiting off of his autograph.

Inkworks did it. Thus the reason why those auto prices are so high. Also to say they didn't have to include any autos is absurd. What's the point of making a non-sport set with no autos, especially one that revolves around "Hollywood". Having sketches will be the only saving grace but do you know the ratio of sketches to packs? Again some transparency in the product would have been nice. I also never said I wanted every actor in the show, just the main cast. They got Fillion, who is one of the hardest to commit. The only auto that I would have been okay with not being in there would have been Morena, as she doesn't sign much for card companies and she cancels just about every con. Every other main character signs for other sets but yet UD releases a product (for which they became famous for) and drops the ball on it.

That's a pretty weak argument of trying to compare a release from almost 10 years ago. The market and environment is so much different than it was back then.. You have no idea if inkworks was around today that they could get all of them today like they did way back when.

Simpsons did it...
Also talking about nearly 10 years ago. Times change, actors/actresses get more famous which causes them to possibly charge more or be less willing to sign. You have more cons now for signing opportunities. Maybe they are bored with Firefly, maybe Joss did a double decker in their toilet so they are pissed off with Firefly. Maybe they don't like Upper Deck or they don't like stickers.

I wasn't trying to argue. He said there wasn't a set that had all the main actors sign for them. I just proved that for this exact same "firefly" set another company was able to get complete main cast autos. Doesn't matter if it was 10 years ago. It was harder to get autos 10 years ago so actually what inkworks did was simply amazing (non-sports was not as popular then)!
Also Cryptozoic (TWD S1, BBT) did a pretty decent job getting main cast autos.

Sighs, saying it doesn't matter it happened 10 years ago says how unrealistic your view is. Can't argue with a closed mind. You didn't address my point that if Inkworks was doing the same set today, would they have same access and success in getting all the same autos. All the actors lives has changed, and who knows what goes into a decision today for an actor to sign a card set. I'm not going to pretend I know.
And autos where not harder to get 10 years ago, least I didn't have trouble getting the ones I wanted.

This isn't even accurate - Lincoln didn't sign for TWD S1, and Cuoco passed on BBT S5/6. If you are going to say those are decent, then why not this new UD FF? They got the top 2 and yes missed a handful of others, but getting the top 2 is big.
And look at the so-called great Inkworks: let's look at Alias S3 and S4. Hmmmm, no Garner. But Inkworks got her for S1 and S2. Guess her star had risen to levels that she didn't want to sign any more. Point is the situation changed for her from S2 to S3 so Inkworks "failed" in getting her? Situations have changed perhaps with Firefly actors too - you never know. Bottom line is Inkworks had some misses too - it happens. This FF set from UD will be decent - with Fillion, Morena and the a lot of the other content.

What's the point of discussing whether inkworks could have the same access today. We will never know. What I do know is the UD did not get 4 MAIN character/actors from the series. If we don't include Hendricks (as she wasn't a "main" character") then 3 MAIN characters. I can understand not getting 1 but 3?
I'm just a fan "expecting" something great from a series that ended over 10 years ago. So I guess that makes me closed-minded. If a major trading card company is going to come out with a set from a very well loved series and then they produce that checklist, well it's a fail in my opinion.
Will this set be successful? It would be a yes in the after market. I do know UD didn't sell out since they only produced enough for orders. I know 3 lcs near me that didn't order any (and they do heavy non-sports). The sketch cards will do well because the artist list is very stacked. Again we have no idea how many sketch cards are in a case. Is it the usual auto, costume card, sketch card per box that we've been seeing lately?
Tim: Yes they didn't get Lincoln for S1 but Cryptozoic got every other main character, they included redemptions for full badge/pieces of badges. They actually communicated very well for a company bringing out the 1st of the series product. While the show was still being made. Even Holden wasn't included but they included her in S2 on the S1 design. She didn't turn her cards in on time. This series has been over for 10 years. Every one of these actors makes con appearances. Fillion is one of the hardest to track and get as well as Morena. So they were able to get 2 of the biggest but not the others? Doesn't make any sense. Again I think UD is banking on people wanting sketch cards instead of autos. I'm the exact opposite. I'm tired of all these sketch cards ... I want the autos. But I can see I'm in the minority.
For BBT S1 they had every main character actor. This was while the show was still "hot".
I never said getting the "top" makes a set big. I would say for actor autos the new FF would be a fail as well, just like the movie.
Also I think you're missing the point. We're not talking about multiple season sets. This will probably be the only set of Firefly we see. UD will probably not be coming out with a S2. So you're example of Alias S3&S4 is irrelevant because they had the major ones for S1.
Again if they could not get 1 main actor/actress that would be fine. But we're talking about 40-50% of the main cast not signed.

Well John, your whole point of view summed up is that since something happened 10 years ago it should happen today the same way. So Ill leave this argument. Cant have a logical discussion with that in mind. Your whole point of view is based on things that happened in the past. Guess you get mad at a company cause they do a star trek set but don't get Nimoy auto or Gene Rodenberry auto in it cause they where able to long time ago. I know all the actors (of Firefly) are still alive but doesn't change that their lives are changed today with different paths and are different people now than they were then.
Inkworks did a great Job, I have the auto set too from inkworks, but admit I bought them as a set from a great forum person here. Its one of my favorite pieces. I got it cause I knew how tough it may be to get all the autos from them in todays world and time. And it was displayed nicely.
Im looking forward to the release. And make no doubt, Im very disappointed that the likes of torres and Tuydk seem not be in the set. But I understand that todays world of non sports cards are ever changing, for reasons that are between the companies and the actors, sometimes they just don't sign for a product.

My viewpoint is that there are companies that are able to get main cast autos. You're the one taking it to the extreme of saying I'm going to get mad if they don't include dead actors. Your logic has no valid points because companies do produce signatures of dead actors, just look at the Rodenberry cut autos. This is going above and beyond. UD hasn't even reached that level. They produced a product with 50% of the main cast not signing and filling it with B list autos. We all know there are filler autos in every product. UD put this product out for the sketch cards.
I was validating my point that there are companies out there producing autos of the main characters. I mentioned a company being able to produce main cast autographs from 10 years ago. The point being that even 10 years ago it was able to be done. It's easier now to get autos for most of these Hollywood actors. If there was a company coming out with a product in today's time (i.e. Firefly, Star Trek) then they should be getting 90% of the cast autos. Not filling the auto list with B list stars. There's plenty of companies that still produce this level of achievement (Crypto, Rittenhouse).
The thing is we know why UD put this product out there and it wasn't for the autos (we can see that because of the checklist). This product was put out to maximize sketch card profitability for UD.
Spider-fan: What I meant by the show being hot was that Crypto was able to come out with a product with main cast autos in their premiere series (S1&2) all the while the show was "still" hot. Meaning at the time they released the product the show was still #1.
I'm done with discussing this. I'm in the minority here in my opinion. I'm a huge fan of this show and I also have the full auto sets from Firefly and Serenity. I won't be going for a master collection of this. I'll collect the autos and sell the rest off.

Not really sure why so many people are arguing back and forth, trying to prove that their point of view is the right one. Many people are happy with this set as it stands, good for them. Many people are not happy that some of the main cast don't have autos, good for them. Nothing wrong with either point of view.
IMO, the big auto checklist is good for fans of the show who want to collect a big set. However, the downside is that it lowers the value you are receiving in a case. If you get 6 actor autos in a case, it's going to take you 5 cases to make a set, and on average you will get only 1 main cast auto per case. At $1200/case, that's going to be pretty rough, having mostly $20 autos. The big autos will be worth a lot though.
It will be interesting to see how popular the sketch cards are, and if they add enough value to make opening a case worthwhile. Mostly though, I hope UD posts the odds of autos and sketches soon, until I have that information, I'll be passing on buying a case and just buying singles.

Congrats! Can't wait to see some of them. BTW, I LOVED your work with DC Villians.
What's odd is both Tudyk and Glau are convention goers. It looks like UD at least tried to get them all (besides Christina) with the sketch autographs they approved.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tudyk burned his hand out signing everything he's obligated to sign for his "Con Man" project. There are almost 7000 posters alone that he's signing in fulfillment of the Indiegogo funding for that. I'm sure he hates not being able to sign for this set, because having met him, he's a dude who really cares about the fans.

So, the question I am going to throw out there, how did Cryptozoic get Summer Glau to sign for the upcoming Arrow Season 2 release and UD couldn't get her to sign the Firefly release?
I do like that there are new auto's to go after, but if Crypto can get her, what's UD's excuse?

You prolly have your reason right there. Maybe she didn't want to have her auto in two sets at the same time, or maybe UD has the same reason. We really don't know, the reasons are all guesses. It could have just as much her not wanting to sign for 2 sets in the same time frame. Not saying UD is innocent or anything, just plain don't know. I really cant recall when a high profile character signed for two sets that came out around the same time.

I find the practice distasteful. If heard some stories of artists dealing with flippers where they can get pretty demanding. I think artists get beat up enough dealing with companies that they don't need to deal with flippers trying to profit off them.

I honestly have mixed opinions on the subject. Whether the practice is acceptable or detestable depends a lot on how it is handled by the commissioner. Are they misrepresenting their intent, claiming is for their collection but always planning to flip? Did they haggle down the price?
I mean, at the end of the day, what is the difference between an art agent and a flipper? The art agent has no risk, the flipping takes on the full risk.
I know many artists that are sitting on tons of blank APs. If I'm willing to pay their asking price to commission those cards, what do they care if I put them in a binder or on ebay? The artist is getting his (or her) full asking price and I'm taking the risk that I could be stuck with the commissioned cards. He (or she) may feel like a chump if they see I sold the cards for much more than I paid, but at the same time if the artist decided to draw on those cards and sell the completed cards himself (or herself), they could end up taking a lower price or the cards going unsold. Some might argue the flipper is providing a service to the artist.
Just random thoughts on the subject...

Some salient points there. Your point was spot on with what you said, like the example I gave about the Tim shay AP piece. The seller over 5 months ago could have sold it to me for 850, now I feel silly offering that when I see what hes asking now. But all that time, The artist was paid what he asked form and the seller still has his funds tied up in that one card for all this time.

3-4 leather parallels /99
one green foil parallel per pack
one patch per box
1-3 artist autos
one sketch every other box
My one box (I'll probably only open one) had 1 actor auto, 1 artist auto, 1 patch, 1 sketch and 1 plate and the parallels Tim listed.

this one is being bought by dealers who are fans.....
right now I count only 8 completed (SOLD) auctions on eBay........ 2 days in & 2 of those are the Philly Non sports promo cards
maybe people are waiting to get there boxes in before they buy on eBay?
either way,
I think you will be able to get the autos you want at a decent price........

A large majority of brown coat fans don't even know this products exists yet. Once they do just watch it fly.

Big fan of Firefly. Heck, I even gave a good amount to Tudyk's 'Con Man' just to get the 'trading card' perk level.
But while it's great to see that the boxes/cases are packed with a nice amount of hits for the breakers/collectors/dealers, I'm passing on opening any of this release. It's really commendable that they tried something new for the look of the regular autograph cards, but honestly, to my eye, it's a big miss. Just completely unappealing. (The variant main cast art autos look amazing. But those are obviously super short-printed. So... yeah.)
For those that are digging it though, I'm glad it's delivered the goods for you.

This in my opinion is a long term product. I think it will sell ok because its recent. Just wish we knew what the print run was about. Any one do the math? It really depends on how much they made.
Though I admit , I wouldn't have bought cases at the suggested 1200+ case price.

Just finished up the last of my 3 sketch card AP's. All 3 were done in acrylic.

Those do look great. And it seems more selling on eBay. Cards going for what I thought they would. Think my delivery going to be delayed as I live where all that rain in Texas is going on. I wonder what the turnaround on the redemptions will be.
Well it took 5 days but I sold my first FF autograph, woo-hoo!
And my sketches that end tonight have bids. woo-hoo!
And I sold a case of just commons and green foils for $200! woo-hoo!
maybe this one will have legs long term?

Thought I'd share my original art for the 8 base cards I did. This is before writing the copy and giving it a vintage pulp feel in photoshop.

Did you design the entire card, Text and all, or did you send them the photoshopped art and they added it, orrr did you get a premade template of the text that you had to make your art fit into?

Uggggh. I hate when people do this. Idk how much that Charles Hall AP was, but if you remember Kryten, he apparently commissioned it to resell.

So whoever missed it, if you still want it for $800, there's your chance.

I did all the work on this. I asked to submit my ideas with the copy and all was approved with the exception of a small title change. So I then designed it all in Illustrator and Photoshop and delivered the pieces as you see them to UD. It was a lot of fun and am very grateful to have been chosen to be on the set. If you check out my other work on my site you'll see I have a definite fondness for creating faux vintage looking Pulp magazine covers! :D

Anyone know the print run for the Blue Artist Autograph Parallels? Any of the artists, how many of each did you sign, I would think they are limited to 10 or 25 of each one..
Thanks
