View Full Version : Classic "Am I screwed" question, USPS to South Korea

So I sold a Greg Maddux framed auto from museum on eBay. The buyer was in South Korea but has over 1000 feedback and 100% positive. No problem, send it out.

40 days later a claim is opened, item not received. I see it went from New Jersey to Jamaica New York, and then nothing for 38 days. Called the USPS and am told once it leaves their hands, it's not tracked any further and there's nothing else they can do.

So now what? I'm about to be out $300 and the card. Total BS that they have no responsibility or action to take from here.

Tracking is LK066978485US

for that value i would have hoped that it would have been shipped EMS. if so, there should be some form of tracking unless South Korea doesn't track EMS. Go down to your post office and check with them. I never call that line since I have a good rapport with my local post office.

This is why I only deal to United States only.

Unless you can see the tracking online you are pretty much screwed in the eyes of Paypal/Ebay.

Did you use the Global Shipping Program through eBay, or just shipped on your own to South Korea?

I used eBay. There is s tracking number associated with it. It's not your standard 20 digit, it's LK0******US, so it is traceable

If you used the Global Shipping Program, then your sole responsibility was getting the package to Kentucky. Does it show delivered from you to the Kentucky shipping center?

Its all going to depend on what USPS service you picked. Not all of them offer tracking outside the U.S.

If you used Ebay GSP you are covered as long as it got to Kentucky....
I had a buyer not get a Pokemon N64 controller, ($50).... Item apparently got lost, and ebay refunded them via the dispute.... it did not count against me or my defect rate, and ebay paid out of their pocket since i did everything right and i got my money back that was on hold.... Hopefully this happens for you too

Did you try using the tracking among the various sites that help find tracking worldwide? I shipped the UK, hasn't moved lately and hoping it shows up on Royalmail.

Yeah I can tell you just from the information given this was not shipped with eBay's global shipping program. All items go to Erlanger, KY and that's the last time you see them in the US. Pretty much sounds like the first and only time I tried to ship globally myself. The LK**** number is only going to show tracking in the US and after that you get nothing. I lost $90 on a phone this way and lost the case. There is pretty much no way you can prove the item ever got delivered.

You can pick up the number when it goes to the other country's mail system.
When you ship to Canada, you put the number into the Canada Post tracking and it shows up there. OP put the number here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CC4QFjABahUKEwjY25ibuY3HAhUFXJIKHZ1tBww&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.koreapost.go.kr%2Feng%2Fsub%2FEMS_Search.jsp%3FcontId%3De1020600&ei=C6a_VZiqI4W4yQSd251g&usg=AFQjCNHhLmyj-4Tj5SjhbhMQ6wMwienUbQ&bvm=bv.99261572,d.aWw

Through where? This item was shipped not using the eBay global tracking. It was shipped International First Class. There will be no more shipping updates on the card once it leaves the US unless it went to Canada. I learned the same lesson as the OP is about to, either ship using eBay GSP or you have to fork out the money to ship priority.

I only deal with people in my neighborhood, that way if they're lying, I just go beat em up.

Anything I ship outside of the US (that doesn't go through ebay global program) I charge $40 and ship Global Express Priority so that it is tracked and insured. Let the buyer take the risk. Only way to go.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why anyone would ship overseas directly (not to mention all the paperwork and forms) when the Ebay Global Shipping program takes all the work and liability off of the sellers hands. It seriously boggles my mind.

ding ding ding!

eBay makes it a piece of cake to ship internationally. It's literally 1 click of a button on your listing. Back in the day I used to ship international myself and it's a pain in the ass. Prices, tracking, packaging, customs forms etc. Once the Global Shipping Program rolled out it's a no brainer. You ship just like you would ship to anyone else in the US regardless where they are located and you're protected.

Update. This randomly showed back up on my doorstep the other day after 10 weeks of no answers and having to give back the money and not having the card.

Thanks to all who helped
