Other than spending time with family on Christmas Day, what better way to add to that is a game between the Cavs and the Warriors. Merry Christmas fellow boardies and enjoy the game!

I loved the Finals matchup last year, and I wanted to see a rematch of it. The way things are going, we may well see one come June.
Nonetheless, after watching a lot of Cavs games this season to see if they were still a capable threat, I don't see them beating the Warriors - either this game, or in the near future. The Warriors have gotten even better, while the Cavs haven't.
The biggest factor? Blatt's system, and his teaching abilities, are nowhere near as good as what the Warriors' coaches do. I've watched Warriors players get better ever since the Kerr/Walton era (Curry, Green - even bringing in Steve Nash to help Curry further), but Cavs players are still where they were before (e.g., Kevin Love's defense is still at the level it was in Minnesota, J.R. Smith is still an inefficient chucker, etc.).
My prediction? Warriors will not only win this Christmas game fairly easily, but either they or the Spurs will possibly sweep the Cavs in the Finals as well (Cavs might win a game, but I'd be surprised if they took either team to six).
(And yes, I understand Kyrie is coming back. I still don't think he'd be enough to make the Cavs better than either the Warriors or Spurs.)

In all seriousness, I think the Warriors will beat the Cavs by about 8 or 9 points on Christmas Day. It's a home game for the Warriors. And it's a statement game. When you compare the teams, the Warriors typically score 115 points and the Cavs score about 101. Cavs will try to slow down the tempo of the game and turn it into a rock fight but it will be one team shooting 2s against another team shooting 3's at similar percentage.

Everybody seems to be forgetting the last time a healthy Cavs team played the Warriors:
Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers - Box Score - February 26, 2015 - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?id=400579146)
Stephy shoots 5-17 while Lebron shoots 60% and goes for a 42/11/5 line.

I'm online friends with a hardcore Warriors fan, and he provided context for that game tjforce mentioned, because I tried bringing it up a few months ago during a Cavs/Warriors debate. It's important to note that the Warriors weren't doing their small ball then. Again, they've improved since that time period. I could still see LeBron getting his tonight, sure, but the Warriors will probably prevail.
I hope I'm wrong because I actually like the Cavaliers more, player-by-player, as a team. I'm rooting for them. But I'm being realistic. I hope they prove me wrong, but I'm not going to place any bets on it.

Fair enough, but I'd love to see GS's small ball against the Cavs line-ups:
Kyrie/Shumpert/Lebron/Love/Thompson
Kyrie/Mo/Lebron/Love/Thompson
Delly/Kyrie/Lebron/Love/Thompson
Delly/Mo/Lebron/Love/Thompson
Delly/Mo/Kyrie/Love/Thompson
Delly/Shumpert/Kyrie/Love/Thompson
Delly/Shumpert/Lebron/Love/Thompson
Kyrie/Shumpert/JR/Lebron/Love....
And so on.

12-19-2015, 04:01 PM
Will Shumpert be back for Christmas Day? GS might get that W, but I don't think any team will beat Cavs in seven if completely healthy. Whether or not we will ever get to find that out is yet to be seen lol.
Cavs have been struggling early, but they haven't been healthy. Yet still have managed to take the #1 spot in the east.... without one of the best scorers in the league, and without arguably their best defensive player. Mo Williams and Richard Jefferson were huge pickups that adds a lot of depth that wasn't there last year (injuries or not), Dellavedova has blossomed into a very promising pass first point guard who is 23rd in assists this year, but FIRST in the league in assists to turnover. Tristan Thompson who had a less than noteworthy season last year but a tremendous post season, has maintained that dominance and not slipped back into his sub-par role. 10th in the league in rebounds, 5th in offensive rebounds and that is while playing significantly less time, now that Love and Varejao are back. I don't know how anyone can say these guys haven't gotten better, they just aren't whole yet.
DunkingDurant35
12-19-2015, 05:56 PM
I was speaking strictly in the context of individual players having not improved under David Blatt. Certainly they have improved as a team with additions of Jefferson and Williams, but I have not seen improvement from the individuals who were already there last season, with possible exception of Dellavedova (perhaps learning from Tyronn Lue). Meanwhile, Curry is measurably better than he was last season, as is Draymond Green. Probably Klay as well.

The final score will be 189.5-47, with victory going to the New New LeBronville Athletic Club Formerly and Once Again Known as the LeBrons (formerly the Old LeBronville Athletic Club Formerly Known as the LeBrons (formerly the LeBronville LeBrons)).
This result will be achieved mostly thanks to the fact that LeBron will score 36 points, but then be awarded 64.5 points directly by the NBA top brass because screw you, he's LeBron. LeBron will then proceed to heal a leper and absolve us of all our wrongdoings. Also Curry will go 1-47 in field goals including 0-42 three-pointers, three Warriors players will commit hara-kiri at halfcourt in the middle of gameplay, and we may even see the dark lord Cthulhu rise from the depths and devour Oracle Arena.

I guess you don't understand the play they are running, as it doesn't happen on every possession as you seem to think it is. Whenever they are trapping Curry on a pick and roll with Green, it is NOT working, it's a bad play that is leaving them, and every other team in the league very exposed.

Wow did this game suck. Lebron played like trash missed free throws missed lay-ups he was terrible don't see that happening again. Cavs team shooting was terrible so bad, how does a NBA team shoot that bad from the field 31% and they had a lot of good looks, and still only lose by 6. It amazes me they did not get blown out, love did nothing. Irving still not fully healthy was off, and was only his 3rd game back and was not in down the stretch so still not a fully healthy team. But give credit warriors won, but not a discouraging lose at all for the cavs. They have to get back to full strength and start to play better offensively it will come not worried about that. Also lebron has to play a lot better Obviously he was terrible today but don't see him being this bad again.

It's just funny, Lebron lovers act like he's in his 3rd year not his 13th, they act like he's a winner who takes over and dominates down the stretch and not someone who is 2-4 in finals series with a 13-20 finals record. They want to believe he is a sweet guy who wanted to come home and not someone who jumps ship when the wind isn't blowing the way he wants. I'm not disillusioned about who he is, I've watched it for 12.5 years. Maybe someday it'll click to you all.
Meanwhile, Steph and Draymond are winning machines, they always have been dating back to Michigan state and Davidson. It's hard to explain to people that haven't played basketball in a winning environment but one team makes winning plays and the other doesn't.

The Warriors had such a great team that they were 20 to 1 odds to win the NBA championship last year along with this season preview summary:
It's fair to wonder how much better the Golden State Warriors would've performed in the 2014 postseason if Andrew Bogut had been healthy and ready to go. But even after the promising hiring of Steve Kerr, there's no guarantee that the future is brighter, even with a healthy squad in place.
Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, David Lee and Andrew Bogut will all be back, but how much does that mean if the Warriors can't play better offense while avoiding a point hemorrhage whenever the backups have to come in?
And how exactly does Golden State anticipate improving this offseason?
Even with Jermaine O'Neal, Steve Blake and Jordan Crawford hitting free agency, the team is capped out. And on top of that, it doesn't have any way to add rookies during the stacked 2014 NBA draft.
Until there's some hint that the bench is going to be upgraded, the improvements of the young guns are going to be completely negated.

Warriors vs Spurs in the WCF will be the real NBA Finals this year. That series should be fun.
Yeah let's discount the Finals based on 1 game where the home team won by a fairly close margin. Sounds like the dumbest thing you could possibly think, then I look at the username and it makes sense.

So the East champion has no way of winning? That's a bit premature especially considering injuries and other unknowns

Kyrie's third game back.... obviously he will be much more of a factor in future match ups. We have already seen how well a healthy Kyrie does against this team. If anything, after yesterdays game, I am far more confident the Cavs can roll through a series. I know one thing for sure though, Curry is not a fan of Delly lol.

Good point. Curry wasn't GS's MVP in the Finals and he wasn't their MVP yesterday either.

Based on stats maybe not but look at his +/-
When curry is not in the game, defenses do not need to work as hard. It's no coincidence.

Cavs are so stacked, they just are not better. Lebron is in a decline and you cant feel bad for him because he left Miami when those guys were about to be in a decline. Remember when lebron would shoot 60% in games nearly every time, now he plays the warriors he shoots like 33% its all on him it is 100% his fault he loses these games and turns it over. And it doesnt make any sense NONE why kevin love resigned with this team they are better with tristan getting boards and passing out to lebron. Love is not even a thought and he cant even win 1on1 matchups or hit wide open 3's. If only the cavs had a slasher and great defender much like d wade when he was healthy didnt need ball and could score 18 a game and then lock down a great player on opposite end... oh wait they DID have a player like that in Andrew wiggins but GM lebron screwed that up. What would be fun is a trade with love for ibaka maybe add delly, moz, or someone as well.
