Doublexthebeast's Rolling Grant Hill PC!
Ok guys, long story short......I'm starting a new Grant Hill PC. I used to have a pretty nice collection of Grant Hill cards. I got to a point in 2010 that I had to sell them. Since then I have been primarily been doing the whole Baseball prospecting thing(which I have thoroughly enjoyed). Now I am back at collecting Hill and likely busting a ton of 90's boxes. I am mainly focusing on 90's cards. If anyone has anything available, please let me know. So, here is the first card in my new PC. It is one that I had never had previously and am thrilled to have it be the beginning of my PC:

Very nice card indeed! Great start!

I'm ready to add one more big card in about two weeks........hope you have it ready to go :)! |
I could put together a lot of nearly all his base cards (150+/-) from the 90's and 30-50 low end inserts. Pm if interested. Thanks
|
wooow that is a beauty man. Super rare gold card is a great start to the Hill PC. I have a soft spot for the Starquest card's, and think they don't get enough love.
|
I got in a pretty rare Hill for my PC today. Won it on Ebay early this week and it just got here. I have a few more smaller items coming in this week and hopefully one HUGE card next weekend.

Mother of images. I am not sure what I did to make them appear so big. I am in the process of switching from Photobucket to Imgur and that didn't end to well. Let me see if I can reduce the size of the images.
Edit*** There, those images look much better than the huge ones that I put there previously :) |
Guys, i'm thinking about sending my Hill cards to PSA for encapsulation. I don't care about the grade but just want them authenticated and protected. I am a big fan of PSA on anything prior to 2000 anyways. I would use BGS but I don't like the look of their authentic tag in the case.
Dumb idea or does it sound like a good idea? |

Very nice cards so far. I am still looking to add an Ewing star quest gold. If you haven't gotten any cards slabbed yet for the pc and plan on uniformity, I suggest just doing psa since that's what you like. Personally I like high graded cards to be bgs slabbed because I like the gold labels.
If you are worried about damaging your high end cards and want them protected OR you think they will grade out nicely go for the slab. It is all about personal preference. |
Double post..

I have some new items that I am looking at picking up soon. I've had some great members hit me up with cards and I am amazed at some of the rare cards that are held by members here. I have seen you post your Ewing collection and it is really impressive. Hoping that my Hill collection is as nice some day. I am definitely more worried about protecting the cards than I am about the grades. I may send a few in for grades that are really in high grade but probably not to many. |

agreed. use the money on one-touch case + more grant hill cards! |
Man that Starquest Gold is puuuuuurrrrddy!!!

Yeah, I can't go wrong with more Hill cards :)!
Man that Starquest Gold is puuuuuurrrrddy!!!
Thanks. Its one of the few Upper Deck cards that I wanted. It was one that I did not have in my collection previously and knew I had to have it when it came across Ebay. |
Guys, I picked up some very nice cards today and one or two others off of Ebay. Big shout out to Thunderfan25 for hooking me up with a very nice lot of Hill's including the one big card. I have a few other nice cards coming in next week.

really nice PC!
Grant Hill was such a superstar talent for 6 or so years. He was basically the finesse version of Lebron back in the game, he really had the potentially to be up there among the greatest of all-time. Hope that you have a 1994 Finest Refractor RC for him, and better yet in PSA 10. I have been hunting those for ages. |
Building up quick.
Is that an ultra stars gold? If so, I just got one and it is awesome |

That is definitely a card that I will have to get. PSA 10's of the regular card are pretty hard to get and the refractors are almost impossible to find.
Building up quick. Is that an ultra stars gold? If so, I just got one and it is awesome
It is just the regular one. I am looking into a gold one currently. They are beautiful cards. |
It was great meeting you yesterday! Glad to see the Hills go toward such an amazing collection.
Can't wait to see your Hill collection grow on here. |
By the way just want to add that I'm so glad to see an addition to the pool of 90s player collectors focusing on 90s cards, this is the best part of the hobby for me. Best of luck on adding more and building a monstrous collection, you're already off to a good start. Can't wait to view more as the collection grows.

Just a 1 card mailday today. My wife told me that I only bought it cause of the serial number. The pervert in me probably agrees with her a little:

Thanks. I was very happy to add it to my collection. I've got two more high end additions coming this week and some more mid level ones as well. Should make for a great mail day post when they come in. I'm in the process of moving so it may be the last ones I can buy for a couple of weeks until I get my address changed and physically get moved. Then I will be starting back up again. |

One of the coolest looking 90's insert cards in my opinion. I love all of the "cartoonish" looking cards from the era. Also part of the big deal that I bought.

Now onto my favorite 3 for today.
Not the most valuable Legacy Collection card but it looks great and thrilled to have it. Also got it in the deal I bought. This was bought individually and not part of the deal. Looks pretty good. Think it would grade a 9 if I pull the protector off. It has a few small bubbles in it. And the Big One!!!. . . . . . . . . . . . . .Ready yet? . . . . . . . . . . 98-99 PMG /50!!!!! Love these cards and this one is in GREAT condition minus a little chipping along the bottom........but much better than most that you see. Part of the deal that I purchased. Great collections!
GH my favorite player growing up. Always wonder the "what if" if he was healthy throughout his whole career. Keep up the collection! |

GH my favorite player growing up. Always wonder the "what if" if he was healthy throughout his whole career. Keep up the collection!
Yeah, I was 12 when he was a rookie and was hooked as a fan instantly. I wish he could have had 4 or 5 more healthy years in the early 90's. I think he would have been a hall of famer if he had. |

I felt like those kids when I was opening the mail today. lol |
Great stuff, man!!! You remind me of myself when I started collecting CWebb in 2010......coming off the bench and taking it to Olympic levels. Just buying everything in sight, because I started with 35 cards I still had from 93-94.
Looking forward to following your progress. You're definitely a shoe-in for most improved pc award if you keep this up until next year. Are you going for everything? Might as well. If you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly. lol. How many cards does Hill have? |

If you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly. lol. How many cards does Hill have?
I'm going to get as many as I can. I started a PSA Grant Hill Master Set Registry and there are 895 required cards for it. They only span his playing career and don't include anything after he retired. I'm really not interested in anything post Upper Deck and Topps cards in 09-10. I'm not a big Panini fan so I may skip those over for now. Many of the cards I am buying now are ones that I used to have with my Hill collection or are ones that I always wanted. I really am only looking to collect his cards from the 90's and early 00's. I've still got a long way to go. Would love to add a 97-98 PMG Green but I imagine that will be next to impossible to find. |
I'm very impressed with your acquisitions. I think we're both on the lookout for some of the same card's. Haha
Wish I had that Rc refractor.....that is sweet. Always loved Noyz Boyz the texture is really cool |

Also helps to locate duplicates that we each don't/do need. The 94-95 Finest Refractor is a big one to get for me. I love those cards. I'm hoping for one more big card to get here today. If it does I will get it posted tonight! |
Who else do you collect?
I've got a pretty cool Rodman and Garnett collection going too.....and a mid level Jordan collection. Sets I'm going after include 1996 Autographics and 1997 Triumvirate |
I felt like those kids when I was opening the mail today. lol
I love those types of mega mail days, where even some of the lower end cards are monsters in their own way. |
Amazing additions since the last time I checked in here. That PMG is insane. Sent you a message on the Chrome Refractor.
|
Dude that Hoops Co-Rookie is one of my most nostalgic cards, wasn't that thing like 1:360 packs? #E-X2000precursor
And that pmg's obviously a beast but my favorite of the bunch is the 94-95 Finest refractor, just beautiful. |

I'm thinking about starting a PC of a cheaper player like Stackhouse, Eddie Jones, or Glenn Robinson. I'm also working on the 94-95 Finest Refractor set.
I love those types of mega mail days, where even some of the lower end cards are monsters in their own way.
Yeah, I agree. Don't get to many mail days like that. I need to win the lottery and I would have those every day.
Amazing additions since the last time I checked in here. That PMG is insane. The PMG's are awesome but the More Good Stuff might be my personal favorite. |
Got a big card in the mail today. Possibly the best Non-Serial Numbered 90's insert you can get. Any guess as to what that might be?
|
First off, we will start with my third one of these. This one has some of the "greening" and isn't as nice as the other two that I have. I don't know why I keep buying these cards but i just have this compulsive urge to hoard them when I see them up for sale :)

1997-98 Ultra Stars GOLD!!!! Big shout out to RavcCollector for this one. I had to talk him out of it but he finally let it go.

This was the last of the high end cards that I was waiting to come in. Wonder what I can find next???? |
This thread is great! I can't believe you landed a 99 pmg.:eek::eek: The 99 pmg Penny is my number-one-holy-grail-card-to-end-all-cards card. If I ever acquire one, I'll probably just quit collecting altogether lol.

Yeah, the PMG's are awesome cards. They don't make them like that now. Hopefully you can get one sometime. Thanks for the kind words! |

I was right on my first guess :D The rate that you're picking these up is nuts. |
I was right on my first guess :D
The rate that you're picking these up is nuts.
I can't think of any better non serial numbered cards that are as nice as the Ultra Stars Gold. I have picked the Hill's up much faster than I thought I would. I'm stuck a little bit now though. The last few months I have been contacted by people with nice cards to sell me. I've bought all that I knew about. I'm back to searching hard again now. I'll keep saving and stashing money back so I'll be ready when the bigger cards come up for sale. I would provide a $150 finders fee if someone pointed me in the direction of a 97 green PMG and I were able to buy it. |
