Alert: PWCC Selling Trimmed PSA 9 1964 Topps Hank Aaron #300 w/ PWCC Sticker
Card is from a consignmints (Tuttle brothers) PSA submission and was first sold trimmed by Steve Novella on his eBay account (eBay ID: www.stevenovella.com). It now has a PWCC sticker due to it being "[t]he finest '64 Topps Hank Aaron #300 [they've] brokered in [their] long tenure" (see below). The card is trimmed on the left edge, bottom edge, and top edge (however only adjacent to the top right corner as noted). Buyer beware.

Impressive find! Thanks 3124508!

No way you trim these cards unless you have someone on the inside at PSA

You'd have to be blind to miss that type of crooked trim on the top edge. Pathetic.
|
Pretty simple stuff to have a raw 64 Topps card in your hand and see if it is trimmed or not before you put it in a 9 holder. Takes a few seconds, really, if you grade with your eyes open.

As always, thank you very much for this tremendous find.

You should just name these threads "Look what I found in Target today!!!" and you'll get triple the views.
Also, great find on this Aaron. I can only imagine how many cards were altered by the Tuttles. |

The cut on top left corner was what stood out to me, but yeah, that’s not good either. |

Nice find. I didn't see the auction link in the OP but it appears PWCC pulled this listing.
Based on other reviews, I'm guessing PSA won't admit fault and sends the card back with a supporting letter. Maybe the PWCC sticker even helps get the card bumped into the PSA 10 grade PWCC views the card? |

More of the catch me if ya can. I would have more respect for him if he just left it up. |
Anyone who has ever seen a 64 Topps, or really any baseball card ever, should know that 9 is way too narrow. THE CARDS DO NOT LOOK LIKE THAT.
Anyone who has ever seen a 64 Topps, or really any baseball card ever, should know that 9 is way too narrow. It is sometimes difficult, though not impossible, to tell the difference from an online image.
|
I personally have never heard of 64s having variability in width, but that could just be me. What I do know is that one can find tons of narrow 64s with suspiciously sharp corners in graded slabs. Given the thin white borders I suspect it is a favorite of trimmers.

Was it possible that cards get so miscut at the factory that the tpg inserting them into a general card-sized measuring frame to detect corner-to-corner irregularities be considered pointless? I don’t know...
I don’t understand why it seems that minimal effort is being applied to the grading process by these top companies, if that is not the case. I’m sure they’ve thought out better ways to improve it unless they just don’t want to, for one reason or another. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
buyer beware----raw and graded greg maddux cards listed on steve novella ebay ending in four days. Most have the top and right sides shaved. I wanted the stadium club gold, but the edges just glow/short

Where are we at on this Novella guy? He's got a lot of high grade cards on ebay right now.
|
Missed this thread the first time around. That Aaron is appalling. It was a great looking 7... now it's a weird looking 9.
