New BGS Packing Tape..... Or lack there of!

So is this the normal way that BGS ships out thousand dollar cards???

Also, did you know that when you call the main phone number, it is answered by someone in the Philippines! I guess that shouldn't matter, but still rubs me the wrong way....

It may not look like much, but that tape is pretty secure. It's not like regular packing tape that can just come loose with a small tug. Case in point: it made it to you without an issue.

Yes, it did get to me, but compared to boxes I've gotten from PSA, CGC/CSG, SGC, this is the sloppiest and laziest of them all. Plus the packing tape they are using is very thin compared to the ones that the others use.

Also, the fact that they leave the slits exposed so greatly, is just sad. The other three grading companies practically hide the box with so much tape, and certainly cover the exposed edges/flaps. The gaps are so big, I can put my finger in there. At least I felt a slab!

I just think it is despicable that this is BGS's standard for packaging.

Woodsy074 08-17-2021 05:10 PM

Wow. Hope all the slabs are safe. That is a very poor job and that is being nice. This looks like a packaging job I get from people on eBay who have absolutely no idea how to send a box of wax.

OPChockey 08-18-2021 09:07 PM

Besides the horrible packing job, the box looks filthy.
Are they going through dumpsters for packing materials?
Really squeezing the juice out of the orange.

If the slabs are good and you got all of them just fine, does it really matter?

Absolutely. The next box might not fair so well.

But what are you basing that on? This box was obviously beat to hell by FedEx and it made it without damage to the slabs. The "next box" from any grading company might not fair so well because it gets run over by a forklift at a processing facility. More tape wouldn't change that.

If I got a box like this I would question FedEx's handling, not BGS's packaging.

It is a half a$$ job. There should be tape along all sides of the box so it doesn't split like that. He is lucky that it didn't split and the slabs fell out. That box didn't get run over it was thrown around pretty harshly. If it was run over, I agree no amount of tape would have saved it.

As a shipper, you need to take the utmost care with anything of value because you have to assume that all the shipping companies are just going to throw the boxes around like this. Despite their faults, take a look at your next PSA return or watch someone rip a box on a reveal. They put the security tape around ever single edge / corner of the box so that it won't split like this.

Slabs arrived safely?

If they did its a non-issue.

sadly, they have to save money where they can

This time. Next time might not be so lucky. Its a poor business practice by BGS. That's the takeaway here

Hypotheticals mean nothing. Until Ive seen more than one instance of this happening, this is just a one-time occurrence.

It's obvious they could care less....

Didn't get a quality response to the issue, and no followup.

This is my first BGS sub....

Wow you email BGS and ask for a manager? Okay Karen. The only thing the packaging has to do is get your cards back to you without damage. Sounds like it did, so just move on. Sheesh.

If I had to guess they'll be printing your email and putting it up on the wall of the shipping department to laugh at.

What exactly would you like them to do here? What would a manager calling you accomplish?

I agree. This thread says more about you than BGS.

LMAO at the OP.

"BGS screams greetings from Skid Row!"

Someone please put that as your signature.

RufussCkingston 08-20-2021 03:37 PM

Well... I would like an apology AND an explanation... duh!

The box's only purpose is to protect its contents, which it did. So, you would like someone to call you to say... "Sorry for not applying an extra strip of tape, someone forgot to do that."?

What happens after that? Theres nothing to reimburse as the boxing did its job. Any response you get will just be false appeasement of a non-problem.

RufussCkingston 09-07-2021 12:35 PM

Evidently they don't care as this is standard operating procedure.... My buddy just got this one with exposed side slots. Maybe if SGC, CGC/CSG, PSA didn't have such high shipping standards, this might not even be an issue? But if they ever reject some cards and send them back raw, there could be moisture/rain issues if the box gets subjected to the elements.
