I was laughing until I added the Post Season into the equation then it was a wake-up call. Samuels was a beast in the Post Season, ALL TIME Leader : INT YARDS, TD’s W/4 !, Pass Deflections.
Let’s add up the totals and his numbers become much closer than many would realize. Samuels was a far superior post season performer. I still believe Deion is better but Samuels dominated in the playoffs. Both with 58 INT’s, Samuels 10 INT TD’s, Sanders 9, Samuels INT YDS is over 950 while Sanders is 1,400, |
If Samuel had one more postseason interception, he'd have 1 more championship too

Bo - just stating facts. Samuels was a huge playmaker in the post season. That Lynn Swann & T. Davis were as well, facts. |
Who had the melt down? The OP or someone else. It’s all confusing
|
I will just say that collectively the 2003 CB class is one of the best of all time. Tons of longevity and solid stats.

I think the OP is having a meltdown

Great point and I agree. |

In real time it did look like it went right through his hands. In replay and it's tough to find really good video but to me it looked to go right off the ends of finger tips, with his finger never being over the top half of the ball. It was a weird play as it was almost like a jump ball so I guess you could argue he mistimed his jump but it wasn't some bunny of a catch. Elite wide receivers are probably not making that catch (if they are getting the same amount of finger/hand contact on the ball). Just my opinion. If anyone has a link to a high quality video of the play, I'd love to see it. |

I was being somewhat tongue-in-cheek. I thought he was incredible CB and he was one of my favorite Patriots of that era. |
Yeah, I figured as much. Honestly that play was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title. I think people were just really frustrated with losing the perfect season and that was the last big "missed" play of the game and the game would have been over had he made it.
As far as him vs. Deion. Judging players in different eras is always tough. I was a kid when Deion was in his prime and I will admit that I didn't really like him. I don't remember much about his big game/playoff performances. Samuel was definitely a very good high pressure performer. |
Now, Welker's drop against the Giants in 2011, not a perfect pass but that was a really bad one, more so given how good of a receiver Welker was.

he also loves to tell you what you feel and think see ot foreman thread:doh::doh: |
I loved when he played for the Eagles. He lead the league in interception one of the years.

This is all anyone needs to see. When you compare the two, there's just no comparison. I recognize that Samuel stepped his game up in the postseason, but he's still not close to Deion.
Just ask the Cowboys and 49ers what he meant to their respective defenses in 94 and 95. And we know Samuel is nowhere near the athlete Deion is. Should I explain why? Like Shannon Sharpe mentioned: Samuel wouldn't even be mentioned in the top ten if you mention the all-time corners. Asante is fringe HOF... this kinda stuff will prob have him waiting a few more years. If he gets in...I'd say was 60% yes 40% no (needs weak years to have a finalist shot), now maybe 40/60?

I would select Ty Law and Mike Haynes as the best Patriots corners ever. As for stats, The Playoffs are when you need guys to step up and Samuel did that and more. I would take Samuel as a Post Season top 5 over Sanders! |
