This isn't the conclusion of the study at all.
2333 people walked around with masks and 2523 walked around without. In an environment where the rest of the population (95+%) are NOT wearing masks. Under those circumstances wearing a mask didn't really protect you from getting covid. Which is basically already widely accepted. Masks don't really protect you from already airbourne particles. This study says nothing about wearing a mask to protect others or whether a masked population can stop the spread of covid.
