Default Warning to people who sell packs and boxes on EBay

I sold a 2007 Topps Sterling Mystery pack to a customer 4 weeks ago, they got the pack, opened it, and said the card was "dirty". They opened a dispute, stating that they wanted a refund or another pack as a replacement. I said no, and escalated case to Ebay after some back and fourth on some refund options just to let him go away. Once I escalated the dispute, EBay automatically accepted the return, I called Ebay and they told me not to worry, once he returns it I can dispute the resolution and most likely Ebay will refund us both.

I got the package today, and called Ebay, this is what the idiot on the phone told me after talking to her for 15 minutes, "You have to make sure the card inside the pack is in good condition, or state the condition in the description". This sets a precedence on EBay, guys go ahead and buy any pack or box, don't like what you got, return it! How are we supposed to state the condition, or guarantee there are supposed to be a set number of cards and autos and game used etc when that is the manufacturer responsibility!

And I just got home to check the "dirt", there is none.

Really? I believe it, you can say anything on EBay that the cards were not as promised, make up any lie, and get away with it, I would stick to Amazon for selling boxes, even though they sell a lot of frequent there.

What is worse is I just realized Ebay and Paypal both still stole the fees and didn't give it back, plus I had to pay return shipping. Looks like this is hopefully my the last strike for Ebay, I am done, hope Ebay is bankrupt soon too.

Nothing new really. Thankfully I have sold hundreds of sealed boxes and never had an issue. Don't let one bad buyer discourage you, there are plenty of decent buyers out there.

You just need to talk to the right person. Returns need to be in the same condition you sold them in. Can't lose out on a sealed box that has been opened. I would keep calling until you get what you need.

Amazon policies are just as bad in many cases,. Same thing can easily happen on Amazon.

I would have hung up and called back. I have been known to hang up and call back several times until I found a competent rep.

Nice to know I'm not the only one that does this. Hung up on PayPal 3 times today, lol.

Wait you called paypal for this dispute? I called Ebay today, and they basically told me I was screwed and there was nothing I could do here other than report the buyer for filling an incorrect return.

I ALWAYS talk to Paypal. They are much brighter on the customer service side than anyone you will talk to at eBay

If it was an Ebay dispute Paypal will direct you to Ebay. They have no control over what Ebay does. They are seperate companies now. I have always had better results with Ebay than Paypal reps though.

+1 for the right Customer Rep making a huge difference. Was told I'd get a label refund from one rep, never came. Waited until the 21 days (USPS) was up, called again, was told by a different rep, no problem and the refund would show up within 24 hours. Never came. Took the third promise from the third rep for them to come through.

If you have patience and are willing to talk to multiple people if need-be, they should be able to take care of you as long as you've got a legit gripe. Maybe even ask for a supervisor. Good luck

That stinks!!
Calling out the buyer's eBay username seems appropriate

Thanks for saving me time, yea I think I am screwed here, im glad it was only $65.53 thought. But what is sicker is I have to pay the paypal and ebay fees still, plus I get a strike on the ebay top rated account.

Paypal fees should have been refunded minus the 30 cent transaction fee. Never seen a refund that this did not happen. Also you maybe able to request a cancellation of the Ebay fees since the buyer was refunded. Have done it successfully in the past with no issues.

You have to remember as a seller you pay all the fees on the freeBay PayPal system. They work solely for the buyer. The buyer is always right in their eyes.
I wish there was another auction site. If you know of one, let me know.

I did not give the refund, Ebay stole the money and gave it to the buyer, Ebay is punishing sellers who do not give into buyers demands, no matter how insane they are. If you lose the case, ebay gives you a strike, steals your fees, and so does paypal

That is total pointless, they get a million of those a year: This is what paypal told me:

Upon checking the account, I can see here the transaction amounting to $62.53 USD on march 17, 2016 and was refunded due to eBay dispute. If you could notice that the buyer receives the full amount for this transaction meaning the fees are included on the refund made to the buyer.

We are always here to help. Please don't hesitate to email or call us. Thanks for being part of the PayPal family. Take care and have a wonderful day!
