Default Discuss: Do you like your Finest cards w/protector or w/out?

I prefer to collect Finest cards with the Protectors still on. Obviously the cards look better with them off, but deep down I feel they aren't "Mint" in the true sense of the word if someone has gone in and peeled off a factory component.

I like them with the peel on. I want the card exactly how it came from the pack.

I only buy unpeeled versions unless it's the no protector version.

Peeled on tends to sell for more. Especially graded ones with peeled on is much harder to get high grades, thus premium for it.

Call me crazy, but I think the cards look better with the peel on. In some cases, the peel text is covering the player's face, which is a slight annoyance, but not a deal breaker. I would never peel off the coating, myself.

I like the peel off. The card looks much better in person.

Peel off any time of day. The peel was there to protect the card during manufacturing, cutting, and packing. Once opened by the collector, I just feel that it doesn't make sense keeping the peel on especially when having it graded. Nevertheless, finest cards that I own remain unpeeled until I am ready to have them graded. That's my personal choice.

If you leave it on it could be impossible to remove after all these years: Infield Fly Rule: Warning! Protective coating may damage product!

Very interesting, I wonder if that could eventually hurt the value of unpeeled cards?

I like them with the peel on, but damn it's real fun peeling them off!
Broke a few packs of 99-00 finest and peeled all the base - was like an addiction!!!

It looks better without the peel. But value wise, then the peel should stay on it. It would definitely hurt it's value.

I know it's hard to believe in this day and age, but there are still a few collectors that are not one beaver dam bit concerned about "value" and are more interested in the enjoyment of the card itself!

For me the peel is part of the collectible, so I keep it on.

I've never submitted any of my cards for grading but there are 2 BGS Finest refractors I own that I have thought about re-submitting before...
One is a bgs 8.5 97-98 bronze mj "Finishers" refractor, with an 8 surface. I think that if I was able to peel it it would jump to at LEAST a 9 overall since there are a bunch of small air bubbles throughout. That is of course if I'm even able to peel it without damaging the surface of the card (I know older cards are prone to having residue from the peel left behind)

The other case I've thought about resubmitting doesn't involve peeling the coating since there are no air bubbles at all, it's a bgs 9.5 97-98 silver mj "creators" refractor #'ed to 1090 with a 9.5 surface. Centering/edges both got a 10, but for some reason the corners have a 9. I've looked at each corner under magnification and they are all perfect/sharp, no dings/whitening at all and not even any slight loose part of the peel. I honestly feel like it should be a bgs 10 overall. I don't think I've ever seen one of these cards with coating intact with higher subgrades before, yet the corners grade still bothers me a lot.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I prefer on because my luck I would damage the card.

I don't know why but for whatever reason I like it better with the peel on. It has nothing to do with a value perspective but the peel on just adds some sort of nostalgic feel to the card. It reminds me of collecting as a kid. I actually think it looks better with it on also.

I just purchased an Iverson rookie with the peel off last week and whenever I get it planned on selling it because I realized I would rather have the peel on and spend a couple bucks more.

This topic reminds of back in the days when we put Elmer glue on our hands and peel them off.

You did it too, no meed to lie to me.

+1. My thoughts exactly. The diagonal text going across the surface of the card just looks cool to me. Tough to explain why, but then again, it's tough to explain why anything "looks cool". Go figure.
